Please show your mom lots of love. I lost my Japanese mom to cancer unexpectedly and really miss her. It warms my heart to see you two making food together!
John Smalldridge
John Smalldridge I am so sorry for your loss. Hope you are doing better now but I know you'd never stop missing your beloved mom.. I also enjoy watching them cooking together. His mom is so sweet & they seem to have a good relationship. Please take a good care of yourself!
Reading this makes me sad. I know one day I will be going through the same thing. I hope you can find more joy than pain in the memories of your mother
Love to you as you experience this loss. She remains in you and, thus, never disappears completely.
I had a mom too, but she wasn't Japanese. She hated the Japanese, because she was WW2 generation. Is that the same? I miss my mom too.
If you don't have the mold for the rice, use the spam can!
Brilliant!!
You learned me something good.
Tiffany would have never thought of that!! I was just thinking what could I use instead. I typically avoid the comment section but I'm glad I looked. If you line the can with cling wrap you could get it out easy or make it by spreading out the rice and doing it cookie cutter style with the can! Thank you Tiffany!
Thanks!
Tiffany I have done that, just used the can with the bottom cut off.
I like how this mom is all about the shortcuts. A person after my own heart
Your mom is adorable, I love her! 😀
+Melissa Caldwell thank you!
I agree ^^
ikr omgg
She's just the cutest ever! At the end when she was making the sign too and smiling lol
I agree!
You can also use the can the Spam came in as a mold. If you line the inside with cling-film you can put the rice inside and pack it down, then pull the cling-film up out of the can and the rice will be shaped the same way. Perfect size since it is the same shape as the spam!
Freaking genius!
Pussywhistle nice name
Yeah thank the wolfe pit huh? you hack
Matt Cameron thank you So much.
I love how your mother chose to eat the musubi that she'd hand-shaped. She is soooo cute and wonderful.

moms are pragmatists, they gotta make sure a bunch of people survive.
I giggle when she said that! I was grateful to lean to make it @ home... I feel like the quality is better ❤
This video came out in 2015 and in 2022 it still gets clout!! Thank u for your teachings I so miss Hawaii and musubi! Shine bright Shadow out!
2024 still watching
When I was stationed in hawaii in the army in 2010-2014, I used to buy musubi's all the time from gas stations. I miss those.. So here I am, learning how it's made lol. Thanks

Please thank your mom for appearing in this video and teaching us how to make these. I was so happy to see her - she looks great! I also appreciated knowing how to make these without a mould. I grew up eating Klik - which is the Canadian version of SPAM. My mom would slice it and fry it and I loved it. I am going to be trying this!
Lyndsay Wells, The Kitchen Witch Aww thanks so much my friend. Klik. I love that name! It sure sounds better than Spam! Try this out and let me know how you liked them ok. :)
I just made this and everyone loved it! They gobbled it up so quickly and kept asking for more even though I wasn't even finished assembling them haha XD The only thing I changed was I used roasted seaweed snacks instead of nori cuz I didn't have any, but it still turned out great! Thank you for the AWESOME recipe :)
So happy that everyone liked this! Very happy!
Nori is still thw same as swhat you would call seaweed snacks honestly here in hawaii theres at least 2 types of nori i know the regular one and the sushi nori is what i call it and you can make spam handrolls for them on the go its just a small ball of rice regular snack nori and small rectangles of spam hope this helps
Your moms hand made one was way better than that machine created one. Hers had character. I don’t know why you pushed it to the side...
Thanks for sharing. Great video.
Here is another great recipe for the sauce.
4 tablespoons mirin
7 tablespoons soy sauce
4 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
Tried this. Wayyy to salty even with the reduced salt spam. I can’t seem to find a good sauce recipe anywhere. I tried equal parts soy sauce and it was way better but still not as good as the one I had at 7/11
she is so gorgeous!! I LOVED THIS VIDEO
+Davis Fountain Thanks so much!

Nova Radness, yes you can omit the wine and it's still very delicious. Hope this helps!

RunAwayRice Always so nice to see you here. She was nice to appear with me. I hope she does again someday.
Love your Mom...she is super.
Even 6 years ago but, still great.
I see that this video was uploaded 3 years ago. Your mom is so cute. I hope she is doing well. Thank you for the wonderful recipe and her teaching. Please take care of your mom. She reminded me my own mom (Japanese) who I have lost to a cancer. Now I am going to make me this for my daughter
No one beats mom’s cooking. Michelin stars might be amazing at that moment, but memories behind my favorite meals like chicken adobo will always make me smile. Your mom is so sweet! Thanks for the recipe and I’ll make it right now because it’s so easy.
That was heart warming! I already knew how to make musubi but I watched the entire video because it was full of love, admiration and respect for your mother. LOVED IT! She’s beautiful!!
I used to hate, Spam. Then, I moved to, Hawaii for several years and now love it. Musubi is an awesome hearty snack.
私も大好きで、一口サイズでよく作ります。
昔、ハワイに行った時に見たスパムむすびを思い出しました。
その時は「なんだこれっ」って思いました、、、、(笑)
今ではスパムの缶を見るとおにぎりが食べたくなります!

Sinichi, I can't believe how delicious spam musubi looks! I'm totally amazed! I proclaim that it looks awesome! Thanks for introducing us to your beautiful, talented mother! She did a magnificent job on this recipe!
Juanelo1946 Oh, this is one of those marvelous things that were invented in Hawaii and is a must-try item. So easy yet so good! And thank you for saying that about my mother. I think she was nervous but hopefully she had fun!
@@TabiEats honestly as much as it originated from hawaii its a fusion of kind of all the asians? Idk much tho
I like your mom on this video. She looks 親切!
That was awesome my boys love Musubi!!! Please thank your mother for showing me the right way to make it!!!
Love ❤️ cooking with your mom.❣️
Your interaction with your mom is so cute with her "cutting" remark at 1:26 and how it kept going from there made it fun to watch! I would like to see her come back and make her croquettes. Also, I grew up in Guam and lived in Hawaii for a few years. This is my first time watching your videos and from the list, I see I will have to make some time to watch a lot more!
+Emily Neher aww thank you so much! You know, Guam is one place I've been wanting to visit for some time. I am particularly intrigued by the Chamorro cuisine. Thanks so much and hope you continue to enjoy our videos!

the best thank you for the video 🎥👀👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😷
i adore your mum so much. she is so cute 💓
Mother is very beautiful.
when we don't have a mold available. we line plastic wrap in the spam can and add the rice. press down and pull out the plastic wrap. . then the rice and the spam stay the same size. . .just an idea.
that's so clever!
Helen Moenoa that IS clever! thanks for sharing! 😊
Not a fan of Spam...but I would try this. Moms have a way of making things taste yummy, must be the love they put in it. Way to go Mom!
My 100% native Hawaiian teacher made my friend and I some of that. IT WAS SO GOOD🥺🥺 (i had two😌)
My daughter make them and loves them. ❤
I love the Japanese language "word-of-the-day" session too.. Keep up the good work!
Your mother is adorable!
You can use the spam can as the mold, cut out the bottom and use it for the mold.
+Chandra Burgess great idea!
Omgahhh, I love how easy this was. I eyeballed the teriyaki sauce too and I didnt even bother to taste my sauce until the whole shebang was done and it came out perfect. Only thing I did differently was added furikake and a bit of vinegar to my rice mixture before shaping it. And, omg, mother is darling. I love her. You should do more videos with her! She's a hit! I love her style!
Cool recipe. When I make teriyaki sauce I mix soy sauce, honey, and ground ginger.
She's so adorable. Love ur 📹 video
your mum is so sweet :) will definitely try making in the future!!

Ahaha Mom's cooking is always the best!
I"ve never tried Spam Musubi but when I was young I'd just fry up the spam super crispy and eat it on its own hahahaha
Bernie Low Oh yes try this one out my friend. And your package arrived about 5 minutes ago!! Thank you so much! I am going to be trying these out on video. I can't to try that laksa fried rice!!! Really, thanks Bernie. I'll be sending you over some treats as well. :)

omg I tried it and it's an awesome recipe. Thank you.
Such a sweet video, your mom looks great. The best part was when she said to you "You eat a lot so you should put a lot in there" a totally cute comment
Yuki Agena haha. I was so afraid she was going to say something really embarrassing. lol
Sakura Spring yeah, this is the one video she agreed to be in. Oh, you must try spam this way. So ono!
TabiEats is there another way to marinate the spam I'm a teen and I want to learn this for my aunt when i visit her back in Japan can't you just marinate it with teriyaki sauce and just that?
I love SPAM musubi!!! xD
Your mom is so adorable
TabiEats What type of white wine are you using for the teriyaki glaze?
This is an awesome video!

Your Mom is sooo cute🌺🌺. Blessings to you both!
So glad you enjoyed those. LOVE Kimbap.
TabiEats
can you put half of that sugar?? I don't like Sweet that much, I love spicy food
Of course you can. What possible effect could adding less sugar in a sauce have? You could even sprinkle red pepper on the rice or add sriracha~
Your mom is so sweet! ❤️
What's the measurement for the soy sauce and white wine?
Annie kaye Granpil
Wing it
@@sct4040 honestly, winging it is okay, its hard to mess up teriyaki sauce
As an asian, I'd say just wing it.
I usually do 2-3 parts soy to 1 part mirin. Just taste as you go!🙂
To me it kinda looks like equal parts. But eh.
Thank you for sharing loving it..& thank you mom
Go for broke! That's a WWII reference to the hard fighting boys from Hawaii's 100th battalion
I heard that too!! It was great to hear that slight tip of the hat to those guys!
Actually it's the slogan for the entire 442nd company of Japanese-American soldiers. The 10th Battalion was a member of the 442.
@@Kris-qt6lr Originally, the 100th battalion was a stand alone. Formed from Hawaii national guard.
The 442nd was created after, from volunteers, due to the performance of the Varsity Victory Volunteers and the 100th battalion's performance in training.
They were joined with the 442nd later, but allowed to keep their 100th battalion designation, due to their service record to date.
100th battalion/442nd Regimental Combat Team.
My Great-Uncle was a member of the original unit.
"Go for broke" is the motto of the 100th Battalion/ 442nd Regimental Combat Team, but it's also a Hawaii Pidgin English gamboling slang to shoot the works or wager everything on one roll.
My friend Tam, whose family owns a vietnamese restaurant, made me some musubi, per your recipe, and it was so good. she made my 7 on Monday. By Tuesday evening the were all gone. I think I am addicted. Once again, your Mother is so sweet. Thanks for doing this video.
+Anthony Biggers glad you liked them!
