Appreciate the little history behind the mystery of the 8 string bass. I believe John Entwistle was the one who asked to have the thinner gauge string strung first, followed buy the thicker gauge, as opposed to the way 12 string guitars are normally strung.
I bought this same model from Sam Ash! It came out of the box perfectly set up and it plays like a dream! Best neck ever-so much so that I want to re-carve a second bass I have to match it!
It definitely wasn't for me. I heard the potential in the tone but playing it only with my fingers, it took me a little time to adjust. This video was filmed in real-time from the moment I pulled that bass off the wall, so it was clearly obvious. 😂
Another bassist who briefly played an 8-string bass section was Johnny Christ from Avenged Sevenfold, he played it at the end section of Blinded in Chains
Tom Peterson uses a 12 string much more then he ever used a 8 , Sting also used fretted and fretless 8 strings. I have a Schecter 8string and had a Kramer in the past . Having a 8 string makes you want to get a 12 string😅
I've got an H8 reissue that I picked up a couple years ago 8 Strings are really cool, but I would highly advise against the H8. I hate the heavy gloss finish on the back of the neck, the tonal options are atrocious, and it has horrendous neck dive. If you get an 8 string, get a schecter, esp, rickenbacker, dean, or anything that isn't an H8, it isn't worth your money

I definitely need to try one of these out. That one looks and sounds really nice.
Not sure an 8 string is for me but I want to find out.

That is a handsome instrument
Nice one PRJ, could be the ultimate prog bass for that odd 8 minute track at the end of the album😂. Never played one, seems kinda fun.
I kind of struggled with it but I loved the sound.
@@progrockjock I think with a pick & a bit of Sansamp & maybe a touch of chorus, it might be worth pursuing 😆
You're speaking my language!
🎉 good slapp
I've been interested in this bass for YEARS, yet I still haven't pulled the trigger on it.

HAGSTROM DID IT FIRST - AND NO ONE CAN COMPARE TO ITS ACTION
