      in the top 5 best maybe joint with The Beatles Rubber soul , Sex Pistols never mind the bollocks, the Clash first album, and Beatles Revolver , but Quadrophenia is brilliant , it goes very deep and is a very important album , the tunes are brilliant the lyrics are brilliant , as far as concept albums go , it's the best of all time, it gets in to the soul of the people of the early sixties , that were are around of that time, genius album.I love it and will from time to time play the film and listen to album forever.

    The last concept album...? Someone's forgetting about The Wall in 1979 - one of the only concept albums that can rival Quadrophenia in terms of its linear narrative...

    • @zdeneksmrcka5050
      @zdeneksmrcka5050 5 років тому +4

      But concerning the narrative one can easily realize The Wall being much closer to Tommy than to Quadrophenia. Actually, The Wall may be definitely considered as a "remake" of Tommy.

    Last BIG concept album was done by Kiss. It was called The Elder and it's now very much loved after it's initial commercial failure. But Quadrophenia is arguably one of the greatest albums ever. I bet Micheal Jackson tapped into Pete's mojo when he did the song Beat It. One gang vs another, timeless in history. But Pete's focus on the subject is amazing.

      OH my god kiss I was listening to kiss when I was a child. My brother told me you really want to listen to real rock and roll. He give me Tommy and quadrophenia and who's next albums. Ever since then I don't listen to anything unless it has a real meaning behind it. Like Bruce Springsteen, Bob seger, real rock music. But dude really you are putting kiss in the same breath as the greatest rock band ever THE WHO. Pete Townshend is a musical genius.

    the 1973 album is a true classic, and I listen to it frequently. The 1979 movie was less impressive, although I would still class it as one of favourite movies in terms of the cinematography, but the soundtrack was disappointing. It would have been much better if the soundtrack were more based around the original 1973 album. I think this would have had far more impact as the 1973 album was pure class. For me the mod culture was all there visually in the movie, and although the 1973 album was more rock based, the music and lyrics carried the emotion of the story so much better. It's a dilemma I guess, and I imagine when the 1973 songs were written, the Who maybe didn't appreciate just how seminal the Quadrophenia story would become when the mod revival emerged a few years later, but they saw an opportunity to make a movie and make some cash, and they mixed the movie up with a few tracks off the 1973 album, and some 60's classics to recreate the mod moment, but unfortunately this diluted the story which is SO well told in the original 1973 album. One day I would love to see a new Quadrophenia movie which uses ALL of the tracks off the original album, and tells the story through the music, as originally intended.

    Fascinating the rock culture with the teddy boys and the mods movements or a hepcat rock persona or state of mind to emote with swagger wearing saville row haberdashery attire. I like Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond than transition over to Richard Elliot and Rick Brain saxophonist and trumpet player. Grew up listening to both swing music and Doo Wop extravaganzas like the Del Vikings and Frankie Lymon and the teenagers. Monty Python catchphrase wink wink nudge nudge Sir Peter Sir Rodger Sir Kenny and bandmates
