- in following with the last webcast discussion we had, i've been meaning to write that blog on lady gaga but this was faster and more to the point.
i wrote it right before recording it and had to read ll the lyrics off the screen, thus the no-eye-contact. sorry.
also sorry about the bad lighting. i need a better flashlight. mostly i will do anything to avoid practicing tchaikovsky and this is proof.
I'm not a part of the music continuum
But I'm a part of this difficult world
I'll never be enough relevant for this song
I am a 17
I am a 17
and putted myself here
'cause wanted be in that song
:))))))
Em Owo I be honoured! Of course you can.
I love you. Every morning I wake up and listen to the ukulele anthem and attempt to play chords, then I put my iPod on and try to get out of the house. Some days it doesn't happen, and you have taught me through The Art of Asking that is OK some days too. I wish I could thank you some how
Thank you Amanda! You never just scratch the surface, you always dive deep!
whats with the painting ducks thing Amanda? Its in like 3 songs...
I used to not like you.
Then I hated you.
Then I became ambivalent.
Then you became my secret indulgence because my friends would've shunned me.
Now that I'm out of the Amanda Palmer closet, I'm cycling back to not liking you because I'm rather obsessed with you and it's taking up my valuable time. Oh Amanda, you are confusingly but comfortably loveable.
I was having a rough day, and I was going to cry, but this song completely turned it around and made me smile. I love it. Thank you Amanda Palmer!
Speaking as a fellow artist, I don't think you could be any less wrong. I would love to see more of these song blogs! (Sogs? Blongs?)
ALL HAIL THE BLONG :D

This song is a perfect example of why I love and appreciate Amanda Palmer as a performer and artist.
And that little squeak at the end is a perfect example of why I have a huge crush on Amanda Palmer as a person.
Oh Amanda, how we worship you.
12 years later and this still puts a smile on my face. Thank you for making shit and sharing it with us.
I watched this right after watching a modern dance inspired Lady Gaga performance. You go girls, you got this!
Thank you, Ms. P. As a playwright who's constantly swimming in self-doubt, you bring me so much joy when you sing about making art.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this. PLEASE post more!
Ironically, I watched and listened to this at work where I'm just a lowly receptionist and I gave my entire office an earful of Amanda. :D
I LOVE you!! Amanda Palmer I have followed your music for ten+ years. TALENTED It escapes me as to why you aren't more famous. true artist.
Golly, insert all the usual fan stuff here. It is so very refreshing to know that there are artists out there using their Brains and thinking with opposable thumbs. Glad to know you are on the planet.
Thanks,
Valle
Wow. Impressive on so many fronts. And what's *really* interesting for me is how the whole 'broadcasting on UA-cam immediately after writing the song' adds so much immediacy to the performance. It makes you seem like a normal human. Whereas putting someone on stage or in a normal performing context - ok, especially on-stage, because then it's literal - it puts performers 'above' the audience. This brings you down to our level, and adds a lot of intimacy to the performance. Thanks! Awesome tune
THanks AManda:
and a short note about lady gaga. I was at NYU while she was and i had the pleasure of hearing her sing and piano in a practice room. She actually has talent. She deserved and earned her fame.
My friend has been telling me to check out your music for a while now, to be honest this is the first thing I've really sat down and listened to, and I must say I really like you, afp. This beautifully expresses a perfect message and the melody was really pleasing. The ukulele is a wonderful touch, too. I'd call myself an official fan!
My mother is an avid reader of Mr. Gaiman's blog and she made me watch this with her. We both agree you are the most adorable thing ever!
Keep on doing what you do!
Thank you so much for your gig at the Melbourne Sustainable Living Festival. You were amazing! This was amazing! :)
I cannot properly textualize how much you win at life, Amanda. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us.
Thank you, Mark Wagstrom, for posting this on FB! 3:53 minutes of smiling. Why have I never been lucky enough to have heard of you before, Amanda Palmer? I will certainly follow you now!
Amanda-You've been my favorite person in the world for nearly six years now. You are really wonderful inside and out, and you really make a point to connect with your fans. Thank you. I love everything you do. Keep just being you. I adore you so much because you're a regular person who happens to perform for us. You didn't let fame and attention go to your head. PS-Come to Detroit more often. This last tour you skipped right over us(Chicago to Canada).
This is so great. Thank you so much for this song! This video reminds me why AFP isn't just my favorite musical artist, but also one of my favorite people.
When I feel bad about not excelling in one skill I remember "some artist try to do everything, which is impossible, I think this epeople are brave" and it really helps xxx
Awww Amanda is so dang amazing! The first time I heard her (probably two years ago) I was surprised by her style. I love everything that is original but amanda is more than that. She's herself. Amanda you inspired me so much and you made me realise I didn't have to be perfect, just myself.
I love you
It's not only that I'm completely in love with Amanda, but also that since I know her I feel more confortable with me being the woman I am. Thanks for transmitting me so many feelings.
I just watched Lady Gaga's, Bad Romance, and your video back to back. I think yours is a hundred times better.
Thanks, Amanda.
(Girl Anachronism is, by far, my all time favorite music video. Keep up the great work.)
Signed,
a 44-and-a-half-year-old-man.
Amanda, you're fantastic. I love your quick academic look at pop and art and all that jazz--I think it's a great catalyst for further conversations. Thank you for sharing this.
this makes me totally love you. what a brilliant and simple idea that is so intimate and giving. I hope you do more of this, for sure!
My brother and I love your music, and you make us laugh. Thank you for being you.
No, you're not wrong. You're absolutely right, and I love you for it. I think you're brave, too, for just up and recording a song and broadcasting it to us within 20 minutes after writing it and not worrying about it being perfect. When you next go on tour I will *so* come see you. Thank you!
I've gone back and rewatched this A LOT.
you rule amanda. i never knew who lady gaga was, until months ago, when the masses 'rave' about someone, you know they are empty, shallow, lack every form of talent.
you are one of these rare beautiful souls who actually feels, breathes, eats, drinks music. it's in your veins. i just seen the clip of you raving about edward ka-spel, loving his music since your youth, i sat staring with mouth agape screaming 'holy fuck' as i've fallen in love with his mind and soul 20 yrs ago. thank you for you!
I just wanted to say that I love everything about this. The music, the lyrics, the rushed quality that makes it feel so real and personal. It's great.
First of all, congrats to you and Neil. Secondly, I FINALLY listened to this, and you are SO RIGHT. You said it so much better than I could, omg.
I love this. I think my favorite bit might be the verse about pop music not being for everyone (except it technically is); I like the self-correction and the transition a lot. It's all marvelous, though. Can't wait for more (as always).
Nice song Amanda! Yes please do more. You are so exciting. I live vicariously through you!
fab! songblog/blogsong FTW!
the creation (and appreciation) of art is a supremely individual thing, and that's what makes life marvelous, fascinating and gorgeous.
You must preserve this video! Because the video of the song will always be a much greater work of art than the song itself, in it´s probably more polished version - because nothing will ever be better than seeing you presenting your song for the first time, from your home, with bad lighting ...and a pause to scroll! And the song is about the meaning of art and female pop artists.
This video is brilliant art - even if you just wanted to share the new song, you created something greater!
I've been trying to live my life by this phrase: "Art is great that way you can do anything". Thanks for putting it out there and for all of the risks that you take and for all of your tireless work!!!!
So glad you wanted to be a performer!
Please do more of these!!!!
so my friend sent a me a video once and in wasn't fond of the music, got bored tonight and decided to search and your stuff is amazing, humorous and entertaining and on top of everything, it's true
I love this song because it seems like it was written in five minutes, yet somehow it just works.
*applauds* Magnificent!! I definitely want to see more of these blogsongs of yours!
This makes me want to go out and buy a ukelele. Now. At 12:37am. It doesn't make me want to listen to Lady Gaga, but your point is still valid. Five stars for the "wait... there's another verse". I have lost count of the times I've done that!
You have to be one of my favorite artists of ALL TIME! You're stuff is so imaginative and inspiring. I wanted to see you at The Social in Orlando, FL this past Sunday but wasn't able and that made me sad. Hopefully you'll come here again and I can catch you then. LOVE YOU AND YOUR MUSIC BRIX TONS!!!
I've been a fan of The Dresden Dolls for a bit so I figured I would check out Amanda Palmer, and I found this. Yup, AFP, you've got a new obsessed fan.
"Making pop music isn't for everyone ... actually, that's wrong, it technically is."
One of the best lines in any song, ever.
I freaking love you and your work for 6(+) years. Keep it up! :D
I think it is completely awesome I dont think there is ever a time where you will stop inspiring me because you tell it like it is. You are amazing. That is all. :)
I love ukulele songs so by default I love this song!
Post more uke-song-blogs; your message to the world using the medium of witty ditty's are, in my opinion, some of your best work .
Oh and I agree with the music continuum argument, nice touch. x
Awesome, Amanda! I just realized that you might be the reason I bought myself a ukulele for Christmas. Look out, world! Keep 'em coming.
I want more blog posts that get stuck in my head. This made me a very happy girl.
THis is really cool everything you write is either entertaining, has awesome meaning, sounds nice, or all of those blended into one...I am a really big fan :) since forever lol
This right here, was the best song ive ever heard. I effin love you Amanda Palmer.
You are awesome!!! Can't wait to see you in Caberet. Bringing my son for his 21st birthday he was in the show here in Orleans a couple of years ago. Happy happy happy to see talented young Chris Thomas is in your show.
Oh, Amanda, you made me cry. Thank you as it seems I've needed tears a lot lately but haven't always let them happen. Anyone who thinks you're wrong is a crazy hater, and I applaud you for being able to use their crazy hate for art-making material.
That was awesome. I am a big fan of the Lady and believe she deserves the Indie Album of the Year ... if there was such an award .... if not an award at least a lengthy blog critique lauding the Lady's nerve while lambasting Indie's meekness.
oh man, i know it well. tom lehrer is one of my HEROS. i've always wanted to do a cover "smut".
i love this! i wish i knew how to write a funny/good song like this! and you wrote it very fast :} and it actually makes all the sense to me.
please do more of this! i love you amanda
Loved it! I hope you do more of these. They're great!
"L'art est inutile. Rentrez chez vous" but even so Amanda, I love you and all you do! Don't ever stop!
Amanda Palmer. We love you sincerely, it is nice to see people left with pnash thank you for being great.
I saw you first, when you opened for Nine Inch Nails in Mexico City and since then, I've had the outmost respect for your art, subscribing now that I've found your channel. xD
You made me feel like I was a part of some sort of Amanda Palmer musical. It was great.
Well, I do love you immensely and recieved a hug from you at comic-con.
"You know all of the stuff you want to do for your fans? That's what you did for me.."
AAAaaanyway...
With most of life I feel there has to be some sort of line judging what is good and what is bad. But I like art because it makes me get off my high horse and examine myself, others, the world. I'm glad you've found your voice and I hope I will find mine soon.
Thank you for all the inspiration!!!
Kate
AWESOME!!! I had to scroll! I love the song, it doesnt make much since but it does. Keep writing chickie YOU ROCK the kitchen ukulele
Awe that was a really cute song, and I am going to forward this to my friend, because we actually had a discussion about Lady Gaga, and well after hearing your song I find your point very valid :)
This is so much more awesome than what I could have imagined. Great work!! :)
Awesome song!!!!! As for the end - 1341 favourites - I think a lot of people want you to do more of these! I know I do.
She is so amazing and she is getting pretty big now....I just hope she doesn't change any....if she does I will miss her
sharing this in honor of your birthday :) because I love the dialogue and because you have to change the words each year ;) love you! see you in Boston!
(cont.) still yet put out those quite beautiful acoustic songs. maybe she doesn't have a plan at all. hahhaah. i paid no attention to her until my mom forced me to watch her VMA performance, & i was blown away seconds after she left her piano solo... the indescribable way she stood up, walking forward like she was about to fall in that line, "i'm your favorite fan...blah blah" she made expressions as though she was going to cry, her body language was right on -- she was putting theatrics into..
I hadn't heard this song at all until today and it's a thing of beauty!
I have so much love for you and I hope you feel it somehow.
I agree with you. Its not a matter of anything CAN be art. Everything IS ART. It doesn't matter if its good or bad. Art just is.
Thank you thank you! It's funny how people can get caught up in the ideas of "pop" and "art" . I have sat back and wondered "is this song I'm writing too pop?" "Should I be more 'rock'?" Will I reach the right people? But I'll take some faith from this song and never ever ask that question again! Inspirational as always Amanda. =)
oh god please do more. i'm such a fangirl i even download your music legitimately! wait, what?
Oh, Absolutely do more of these, it's amazing. Awesome !
That was cute, and adorable, and deep, and absolutely right, and totally wrong, and I loved every second of it. Especially the scroll interlude.
Amanda
brilliant and you are loved, have been loved by many for a long time.
Love, love, love it!
Hope to hear more!
That was outstanding. Thank-you, Amanda!!
I like it! My friend and I just had a discussion yesterday about Lady Gaga, Kate Perry, and Madonna. IRONIC! Continue to do song/blogs or as i prefer to call them, blongs!
amanda palmer, i fucking love you, i swear. Why oh why must you live so far away.
Randomly found this scrolling through recommended videos. Was watching your live stuff, which is ten times better than your recorded stuff, for amusement factors. Your personality really shines in the live stuff.
Love the new downloads. Too bad i wasn't able to grab an actual record. only 1k made. tsk tsk.
The lyrics are so meaningful and it is so cute. You are talented!
THIS was finally the crossover song that got my mother to get past the whole not-wearing clothes thing and warm up to Amanda! Yaaay!
love it takes less time than reading a blog I have a busy schedule please do more!
I have to say that was good entertainment, one of those vids you watch all the way through. You made me laugh and then cry for a minute, make us some more so we can comment you.
Terrific little song! Doesn't matter whether I agree with it all or not. Your sense of humor is one of the best things about you (even before your predilection for being naked)
:-)
I think you are awesome !! Would love to see/hear more of these !!
I don't know why the hell it's taken me over two years to get here, but Amanda Fucking Palmer, I bloody love you. You have inspired me to live life the way I want and not to be afraid of getting shot down by shallow mean people :P If only I could write songs that were as clever, funny and so amazingly crafted as yours... Thank you!!
the last thing she did is screech, i love the screech of delight, so human, human at our best is in that screech of delight.
Just discovered this video and I must say I agree and hope to see more of your Ukelele social commentary.
I'm showing this to everyone I know because it's awesome.
Wonderful, charming, fabulous, and true. Brava.
You're definitely not wrong. There are a lot of valid points here and it's great that it's in song form.
LOVE IT!
That was probably the weirdest "blog" I've ever seen. xD
The funny part is the start of this song is all true. xD The beat was great! I love this! xD
I just noticed, this video was uploaded on my birthday. I know it's coincidence, but huge thanks anyway :-)
You spoke more truth into 3:53 minutes than I have all my life trying to explain art. Either I suck, or you are awesomely talented and possess a beautiful mind. I think we both can agree on the latter.
Amanda, you are frickin awesome.
that's just it.
Awesome.
So thank you
