It always boggles the mind when they fail to notice that their god certainly *should* have been able to explain the evils of slavery to *any* people, let alone the Jews of the time.
Worse when professional assholes defend Biblical slavery as "like pro basketball players" and "inviting people into your home to become part of your family". (Dr Paul Copan)
Dear Mr. Deity, you just move me with how well you peel back the layers of the real myths of all of the.... "enlightened". Thank you. So much, thank you.
Mr. D’s controlled, focused passion and erudition brought me nearly to tears. =Peace=
Outstanding, as usual. Whenever I hear Christians take credit for ending slavery, I am reminded of parents taking credit for ending child abuse, because they stopped beating their kids.
I think you've literally paid my car lease this month. Blessing, indulgences, magical underwear, and front row seats to the apocalypse are all yours!!! Thanks so much!
Sadly, as the _He Gets Us_ advertising campaign showed us, they're happy to constrain values just to branding, while still seeking higher profits.
By their fruits, you shall know them. Or something.
Problem is, they'll *claim* Enlightenment values, but they won't actually embrace them.
It's not getting better in the blogs and forums. I am old enough to remember when saying, "That's very Christian of you," was intended as a compliment.
I have not been paying enough attention to these videos..I swear I thought it was actor Tom Holland this was about until this vid!
Apparently, a lot of Evangelical Christians think Jesus was too woke.
Quite clever of you to encourage Tom Holland and his fellow Christians to take the same approach to history that Milton Berle took to comedy: "I steal only from the best."
Wonder if Tom Holland has heard of the Tulsa Massacre? Did he hear about it like a lot of Americans... from Watchmen?
I knew about it before that, but I legit used that in my classroom when teaching high school. I explained that Bass Reeves was a real person, and that the film they showed was fictional, and of course the specific characters were fictional, but when they showed what happened, overall, it was sadly very accurate.
Evangenitals!!!! 🤣genius sir!!
Inspiring Philosophy: God had to compromise with the ancient Israelites because they weren't able to adapt quickly to strict virtue ethics (because Aristotle wasn't there to explain it).
God in Numbers 15:32-36: he should have followed the rules.
Jordan B Peterson and Tom Holland are examples of an emerging school of grift: sanitize and praise Christianity while not professing faith as such.
I'm surprised he hasn't gotten around to misrepresenting the Inquisition's treatment of suspects as humane and bodycount as only the absolute lowest estimate for only specifically the Spanish Inquisition yet.
That's a fun one a lot of christian apologists seem to be using a lot when that subject is brought up.
The abolitionist argument puts me in mind of the famous debate between Tony Blair and Christopher Hitchens on the benefits of faith. Blair quite seriously argued that we should note the significant part played by Christians mediating for peace between the opposing factions in Northern Ireland.
Your insight is amazing. Thanks for the entertainment and snark.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I'll have what you're having!
Thanks Bri Bri.
Looking forward to part 12....
Brian, pure genius, as always! Had to grab glasses to drool, I mean watch you! I was so proud to hear you say, 'evangenitals'!!👍💙💙💙🥰✌
Eloquent and profound.
Damn, Brian, you're on a roll! That was excellent! I won't spoil it for others but the end was a perfect execution of the left turn. ⤴️
"Nonversion" - pure gold.
Why is anyone surprised that apologists will spin "Alternative Facts" without any bases in reality... throughout the history of their existence, Casuistry has been their trade and perfidy their slate and perjury their blade.
They just wasn't ready for it reminds me of the time when I used to hear America just isn't ready for a black president
Did you say evangenitals? Naughty misterdeity. But accurate.
Thank you for dragging Christian hypocrisy kicking and screaming into the light. That is the true enlightenment.
@8:12 "Evangenitals"
slip of the tongue--nah.
tongue in cheek--hell yeah😁
The Christian Dominionists have always believed in a Schrödinger’s Christian Nation, one that is simultaneously majority Christian like them, but also not. The US has always been a “Christian nation”, but also all the racism of the past was not the fault of Christians, it was those other people who didn’t believe in the literal word of the Bible. It was only 1995 that this “Christian nation” had agreed it was OK for different races to intermarry. Christian Nationalists: “But it had to have been the secularists who were bringing that average down, because this is a majority Christian nation, and we’re not racist (we all have the same One Black Friend: Clarence Thomas), and we never have been, but also we’ve always been the majority, so we should be in charge of everything, and CRT is evil, because MLK would be against it, a person we’ve always admired, and all that complaining he did about fellow Christians wasn’t about us, it was the non-Christians for sure, who were in the minority, but also in power, like we always have been, but it wasn’t us.”
Jesus, another certified banger!
Your hand synchronicity is so spot on. Do you switch hit to boot? 😂. Luvin the Thom dunking. 👍👍
At 3:13, it has to be noted that Lev. 25:44-46 does not say you cannot have Hebrew slaves. It says you cannot rule over them "with vigor" (KJV). You may have them, you just cannot treat them quite as cruelly (but almost) as you can foreign slaves. The printed joke at 10:35 reminds me of a bit of humor I heard from an old WW2 vet years ago. "You've got to give him credit....., if you don't, he'll starve".
ALL the thumbs up!
You're on a roll, Brian!💯
Can I own a Canadian? They all seem so damn nice.
They are expensive to feed. They run mostly on maple syrup and crullers, with a bit of beer on Hockey Night.
Well, Carrier isnt always the best example of a good historian either, but in this case he's absolutely spot-on...
Actually he is one of the best examples, just for being the most honest one!
He defends himself quite well. Even on issues where I'm not convinced, such as mythicism.
Trying to support!
You're killin' it! Thanks so much!!! Blessings and indulgences are coming your way!
The modern Christians still haven't gotten the hang of that empathy stuff, it gets in the way of keeping their foot on everyone else's throat.
An 'Enlightening' slam-dunk! I rule for the prosecution of Xian values.
There is no hate like christian love!
This was so, so good.
These are great! Thank you
I'd love to see some sci fi show with a parallel dimensions where the characters show up and find a perfect world where everyone is healthy, and immortal, where the universe constantly expands to provide enough land for each new generation, where, travel is instantaneous, there is no crime and people are encouraged to do whatever brings them joy but no one wants to cause harm to others. Eventually the travellers realize what is different about this world than our world... in that dimension there actually is an all benevolent, all knowing, all powerful god who cares about his creations.
You got an outline. Now write the script. Just don’t give it to Disney. 😮
Tripping the Rift did something of the sort. The crew steals a time traveling space ship and go back to the very moment of creation - and accidentally run over and kill god. They get back to their own time and it's peace, love, and tolerance everywhere throughout the universe. No one has any idea what crime or evil is, except the main crew - who manage to introduce it to the universe.
Make sure Marjorie Taylor Greene has this on her playlist😅
What a bleak place it would be if we really were closely following Christian doctrine. We would be just slightly more progressive than those living under Sharia law. What makes religious fundamentalists most dangerous isn’t their devotion to their religion, it is the religious fundamentals that they practice.
As the availability of knowledge grows, people are feeling less compunction to be religious. Atheism is spreading (thanks to people like Mr. Deity!). Xians notice this and are redoubling their efforts to paint atheists and atheism as closed-minded or angry or immoral. It's going to be a slog but I'm in for the long haul to see that the secular, you-do-you government bequeathed to us by the Framers endures.
Here's the full quote by Oscar Wilde 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.'
And just for my own education can you show me where Trump has parroted Hitler.
"Poisoning the blood" and "Vermin." He's used both numerous times now.
@@misterdeity Hey, DO remember that the extreme right only deals in "alternative" facts...
Trump and Hitler:
--said the press is the enemy of the people
--proposed mass deportations
--promised to "Make ____ Great Again" (America for Trump and Germany for Hitler...obviously)
--packed courts with extremist judges
--Trump blamed immigrants for problems while Hitler blamed Jews
Honestly, hearing you spell it out like this it occurs to me that it's a bit like anti-vaxxers. They live in a society that's benefitted from this stuff, and so take it for granted (at best) or actively fight against it...
Another Steel episode, what the Cobalt union is striking to level the metals sector?
History vs His-TORY
I'm just here because god made me.
I’m here because I was created last Thursday along with the rest of the universe, and I remember Mr Deity’s previous videos.
And they keep making those arguments as if it excuses the fact that their book of how they're supposed to live said you can own slaves. "It was a different time." It was a different time. Exactly. So your book isn't for everyone throughout all time then? That's the point we're trying to make. I'm not pointing out the slavery of ancient people to say your ancestors were bad. My ancestors were probably bad. It's not a book that does anyone any good today. Remember what things were like when people followed Biblical values? Was anything better? Were people more tolerant? Enlightened? Educated? Happy? Healthy?
It's like pigeon chess. The church has been dragged kicking and screaming into the moder era. Now they claim it was their idea and we stole it from them. I'm with Bri Bri, though. If we can actually get them to embrace those values, let them hve the credit. Unfortunately that's a big "If" these days. 😢
Spiderman is not guilty!! Is this the Daily Bugle channel? Where's J. Jonah Jameson??
Whilst being in full agreement with what Brian says, I would add one small qualification.
The bible can indeed be used to support any viewpoint but it cannot be done honestly. Christian apologists and, sadly, some Jewish ones, deliberately misread, mistranslate and remove passages from their context in order to impose their own meaning. Many of them play this game with the text whilst advocating both its inerrancy and a univocality which does not exist. Such dishonesty and disprespect for what they claim is the holy word of God is staggering.
Well if we're adding qualifications - the main one I'll add is - Most Christians have no idea what's in the bible, they run their life from a manual they have never read. "That's not in the bible!!" is a very common phrase you hear from the non apologist Christians.
RAmen!
Where's my Part Infinity and a Half?
i have to say it's great that the pope has finally pointed out god's error about homosexuality
and okayed gay marriage, nice to see religion finally catching up with real morality, and good
of the religists to admit god was wrong. maybe in a few years it'll l be so watered down religion will
be invisible.
what did they do with the space left by limbo being abolished? ballroom? casino?
It's now a childcare facility run by priests who've recently and very quickly been moved from another parish.
4:14 And voter suppression is the go-to method of maintaining power in GOP-land to this day.
You know, as repulsive as I find religion and the Bible in general and, biblical literalists specifically. I do have to give them some begrudging respect. At least they take the Bible for what it says and don't try to twist it into something that it doesn't say. Hermeneutics is just word games to try to make the Bible look a little more tolerable.
Who was the first abolitionist in history? A good video about the influence of Christianity in the west is The "Dark" Ages were fine, actually - History Hijinks from overly sarcastic productions.
ua-cam.com/video/C6mkPTmym0o/v-deo.htmlsi=BqlM4EY0u31EXba_ starting 8:45 is a brilliant and concise refutation of tom Holland.
Jesus rims all without regard to class or circumstance. 😉
UA-cam atheist joke: If this was Part VI, is Part ERIC coming next?
In defence of theists, they have been taught by necessity of the untruth of all religions to turn everything backwards and inside out. That the abusive nature of encouraging and practicing to turn everything backwards and inside out isn't abusive but loving and helpful, and not divisive but bringing people together. That praying helps, but that god never changes and if it doesn't help that your faith wasn't strong enough, just as your faith is too weak if you die of cancer instead of recover completely. That there's a plan that is loving and includes things like cancer and earthquakes. That everything bad is because we have free will, which we don't. That everything good isn't because of hard work and evolution but because of a god that guides everything, except for when your free will allowed you to get r*ped.
So it makes total sense that their self centeredness and backwardness forces them to think that everything good in society isn't despite their efforts but because of it. And in a twisted way, maybe they're somewhat correct. Maybe Hitler did help us to avert a totalitarian west by giving the worst example, and maybe christianity forced us into enlightenment because of its horrible effects on people and societies. Somehow that still doesn't make me grateful for either the Third Reich or for christianity. But I can at least understand why they're being so completely backwards and dishonest: it's by necessity of faith.
Long before the term "woke" was misappropriated and turned into a slur, "secular humanist" served that purpose for Christians (or at least those on the Christian right). All the more reason to reclaim it and wear it as a badge of honor.
You're you.
Oh come on, we all know slavery advanced the science of genetics thru a selective breeding practice by the masters😊
A HISTORIAN - not AN historian!!! Aaaargh!
Using "an" with an "H" word on the misterdeity channel goes back to Mr. Deity and the Helpmeet from season two. It's based on the King James Bible. But Merriam-Webster literally says, "Some words, like historic, can follow either a or an."

@@misterdeity thanks for the link. Haven't seen that one in a long time.
Genesis 2:18
And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
I love people screaming about the morality of slavery.
Give the economic system one big jolt downward(like the running out of cheap energy) and we'll be back to slavery before you can say 'That Bible sure had it right about slavery'.
There's nothing like the prospect of 18 hours a day(every day forever) of hard labor to change your views on slavery.
Evangenitals. Lol
Ha! Spell check/auto correct gotcha! Same thing happens to me every time I write "evangenitals."
I mean, another Ph.D. in make-believe. Let me sit back and bask in how much idc.
"We should devote as much time to studying serious theology as we devote to studying serious fairies and serious unicorns"--R.D.
Señor Deity, you need to stop holding back and let us know what you really think of Christianity. You'll feel better if you can get it off your chest.
Evangenital lol
Great series. You should put these in a playlist.
By the way, this series just got a shoutout in a video from @Paulogia feat. @ichapod
"We cannot forgive , nore can can we forget what religion did when they were in power" - Christopher Hitchens
I endorse this view. Once religious views infect politics....immortal things. happen.
Not just did but does
I think the quote came from the Hitchens/Stephen Fyr debate against a British woman and a bishop from Africa.
Hitchens emptied the clip in that one. Savage.
