Whilst being in full agreement with what Brian says, I would add one small qualification. The bible can indeed be used to support any viewpoint but it cannot be done honestly. Christian apologists and, sadly, some Jewish ones, deliberately misread, mistranslate and remove passages from their context in order to impose their own meaning. Many of them play this game with the text whilst advocating both its inerrancy and a univocality which does not exist. Such dishonesty and disprespect for what they claim is the holy word of God is staggering.

But I can at least understand why they're being so completely backwards and dishonest: it's by necessity of faith.
