- Опубліковано 23 лип 2015
- We've been volunteering all over Europe using helpx, workaway and WWOOF and interviewing our fellow helpers and hosts along the way. This video has been 9 months in the making. Hope this video helps/encourages those thinking about diving into the work exchange world.
Luke & Elizabeth are backpacking the world on less than $20/day, couchsurfing, wwoofing, camping and volunteering for full immersion and affordability.

this is the first time I don't see any dislikes in a video , so i think heaters don't like volunteering hh
Zakaria Nahmad don't u dare make me do this
what a great video; succinct, informative and inspiring seven years on
agreed, great tips. The one I definitely agree with is "don't have expectations". I've had the best workaway experiences and my expectations were low so I was never disappointed!
Did you have to buy the plane tickets when you went? How did you get around from the airport? I think that this is the scariest thing to think about getting from point a to b in a foreign country.
thanks for this video. I just joined Workaway,Helpex and WWOOF UK andcam starting my first position next week. It's a little more complicated because I am bringing my dog along. (I couldn't bear to leave her behind) and also because I'm a bit older than most volunteers, but better late than never!
Courtney Coleman How did it go?
How was it traveling with dog and doing work for others? Were most accommodating? I'm looking to do the same with my pup!
Thank you so much for this. It really clears up some of my nerves! I can't wait to set off on my travels now :D
Awesome video 🙏 thank you for making it. Really excited to try this life style of work and travel
Great! Thanks for that video, I was looking for something to "picture" how it's like to friends. Totally agree!
thank you very much for sharing it!!
Fabulous video!
This was super useful, thanks so much!
Looking into doing this myself in the spring, should make for even more interesting vlogging. Its great to see others experiences and opinions on it though, thanks for sharing.

Hey Lydia! Did you ever heed the adventurous call?
Nice
Thanks for the video! It's very nice & down to earth as I suppose is approriate for the topic.I'm tempted to click the thumb down just to make it slightly imperfect to be more realistic ;-P
Great video. I'm gonna do it in 6 months. Looking at Australia(i'm American)
Best of luck!
Fantastic video guys! We're just digging in to the world of Workaway (just signed up!) and this is crazy helpful. We've signed up with Workway, but we see that you do Helpx as well? Should we do both to cast a wider net or has one site been more helpful to you? Thanks much!
+Because We Camp Hey! What an honour to hear from you two. We love your channel. You're an inspiration!
We use all three: Helpx, Workaway, various WWOOF countries (plus wwoof us + Hawaii). There are more of these work exchange sites starting up every day, but these are the ol' faithfuls. Helpx has been the most helpful to us - it has more hosts in more countries and has been around longer. It also provides much more variety in work placements. You'll find a lot of accommodation businesses and homestays on Workaway.
However, we have plenty of volunteer friends that find Workaway more reliable. It's all relative. Both are very useful. We like to cast that wider net so we can be picky with hosts - the same way hosts can and should be picky with their helpers. I say subscribe to both! A couple Helpx account is only $20 and lasts 2 years.
Hi! I would like to find out more about Patricia, the last host in the video, what what her volunteer work opportunity is about. could you direct me to where exactly I'd be able to find information about this particular opportunity and others similar to it?
Is money needed for this? I understand you are provided room and food in exchange for work, but sometimes you need cash on you for unexpected reasons. Has anyone ever found themselves in a situation were you had to use cash that you had brought with you. Or are there ways to work extra hours in exchange for small amounts of cash or extra benefits.
Asking because I am a broke college student.
you should always have cash with you anywhere you go, but it's not required for what's provided. read the description of the hosts ad
I’ve noticed that most that are willing to take risks are young people, retirees, older folks don’t seem to take such a risks. Most of us would love to travel the world, but is it really feasible to do when you’ve gotten older in life and want to experience something more fulfilling in life before they leave this earth to another world… 🤔
interesting
Are you read to come in South Italy?
I've never had the opportunity to do a voluntary work.Is it possible to try a workaway experience at 40 years old?
Yes of course!
I'm 64 and I started at 60! I've done 9 placements and they've all been great. Read the work description carefully and choose the right one for you!
I want to do helpx so badly but I have to be 18 so I have to wait one more year and that is so annoying
Have you done it yet
no haha. i kinda forgot about it and travelled on my own
Do you have to pay for the trip to the location you are traveling to? and for the trip back
Daniela Rodriguez .....the experience, accomodation and food is free.. not all places have wifi. Travel to your host is your responsibility. You need your own funds for any extras.. some people do paid fruitpicking etc on route to build up funds. ( hard job)
Do I have to pay for my plane tickets in all of these sites? I'm so broke T_T
