I think the best Worlds MVs are the ones honoring the previous Worlds storyline. Every time they do the prediction hype videos they're always kinda cursed in the animation.

After so many worlds MVs depicting Faker as the villain of the story/final boss, fans thought we’d finally get to see him as a protagonist/challenger.
7 years of not winning, LPL gauntlet scrolled through in the first 10s of the MV. Faker as the villain again. Nothing new.
His journey could’ve fit the title of the song perfectly, too. Why is the crown heavy, if he is seen as on top all of this time?

He wasn’t the villain here though. They are defending not sieging. I think it is a fitting tribute showing that so many players look up to him but also want to compete with (and surpass) him. I like T1’s part in this video overall… but I also would have liked it if it was more of a tribute… I just think, if not now, then when? If he retires without winning another one, it’s not like they can just randomly make an anthem about him. Now would probably have been the safest time to do it. But he’ll probably get so many tributes anyway so I guess it’s fine.
Or maybe it’s really just the flow of the vid that detracts from the message. I feel like they did want to make it a tribute, but because they showed insufficient context as to how they got the crown, it made it feel like the standard final boss thing from previous vids. They could have put even a short segment where T1 lost then regained the crown. They opted to put it in the flag/scroll, something happening off-screen rather than on-screen.

He can be seen as a “king”, but it is not a matter of getting the title, it is staying on top, which has proved to be difficult. And if he doesn’t win, he is the one who gets the most criticism.

I do think Gen G are the best team in the tournament, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them fail. Still, Chovy ascending past the Choky moniker is also a good storyline even if the golden road failed.

I mean, people aren't mad about the song, but, the music video itself. I too think, it could have been better, and after 1 year in semis, 1 year in finals and then winning the tournament. The video could have used that narrative to celebrate the effort it took T1 to finally win.
Edit. The video narrative is that before T1 could even be coronated as champions, new challengers approach, and then they fight to defend their title, the problem is, 2023 had so much better narratives to be adapted:
-Faker's injury and their abysmal 2 win record without him.
-Stopping JDG's golden road, as well as Faker's revenge against Ruler.
-T1 being the last LCK hope in home soil, and beating every single LPL representative during the tournament.
-The return of T1 after their last worlds win in 2016.
If you argue that the video is about T1 in the present, not the 2023 T1 run, that opens other problems:
-T1 is not the favorite in this tournament, BLG and GenG are.
-They had a terrible year, and this is the worst form they have shown with their current roster.
-They almost didn't even attend worlds, even thou they had 3 attempts.
How then are they being portrayed as defending champions and a wall other teams have to climb to get the crown?
The only scenario that could make this MV great, is if T1 manages to get to the finals, but, we don't know that yet. If they are eliminated before that, then this song is about neither 2023 nor 2024 T1.

The teaser last years also can be used for example the teaser for weibo and t1 match. They can animate Faker giving the crown to zeus, oner, keria and gumayusi after a big war or something.

I genuinely like Linken park and Fortiche did a good job with the animation. I just really don't agree with the choreography and overall direction of the video. Feels more like a LP MV than a T1 victory song, which shouldn't be the case for a worlds anthem.

Reason why people are mad, a summary from this entire section:
1. The MV is primarily focused on LP instead of last year's world champion.
2. Faker got less air time, 7 years to becoming a champion once again is a better story line.
3. There is completely no narration about last worlds.
4. EU taking advantage of the event, like MASSU? CAPS? And faker himself get lesser screentime and ALSO INTERRUPTED by LP in the climax.
All your points are valid, but regarding the 3rd one, I believe only two of the worlds m/v’s out of all of them featured a previous worlds run as the main narrative, those being Rise and Gods. With that beings said tho, I agree that it’s a huge missed opportunity, since it was T1 vs basically all of LPL, and Faker finally getting another title.

It was disappointing to not see Riot honoring and highlighting the team's journey to the top. But the theme of T1 fighting to keep the crown, hence, heavy is the crown. Is not bad...but still felt like a LP MV rather than a worlds highlight and hype song 😢

I understand why they did it, but also why fans dont like it. They basically coppied the same style as with the Arcane intro song Enemy. In that MV it was imagine dragons, and nobody gave a shit about it. But worlds has never done songs with the artists and has established that they like to do story based video's.

I'm actually on the side of the koreans. Like, the song is fine (not exactly my type of music tho), but the video is just... Idk. LP members appear way too much, cutting some fight scenes and kinda breaking the pace. A Rise type of video would've been waaay better and more epic.
Just imagine; T1 coming from the ashes after Faker`s injury and almost missing worlds, Keria's plays, Oner's rell and lee, that Zeus 1v4, Guma's solo dodging everything against Ruler and 369 and Faker's Shurima shuffle against Ruler.
Like, it would be Rise levels of epic or even more.
So i'm trying to understand what's going on. I'm off the LoL for so long and am basically just following the music videos and i actually enjoyed it (but i'm fan of LP for 20 years) and kind of trying to understand what is the whole drama all about. Any pointers to where i could read more?

Song is okay but where is the T1's redemption story? They should've picked it up from the 2023 worlds MV where Deft cait snipes T1 off the platform (?). Then show T1's struggle throughout the year (Faker's injury, their summer struggle) until they lift the trophy again. They could've definitely still played with the theme of the crown being a heavy burden to bear for T1 and Faker.
I would say that most fans want ZOFGK to be the main protangonist for once in their journey. After all, they have to get through a lot (2 years together) to gain themselves the 2023 Worlds. So when people see they are portrayed as antagonists + LP took too much time in the MV (also noted that for previous 5 years of World Anthem, no singers ever appeared in the MV), disappointment is unavoidable.
They aren’t antagonists here, they are defending while the others are trying to siege and steal - these are the “antagonists. But it could have been presented better with some backstory of how they lost and reclaimed the crown, would have made them more heroic by the time we got to the end.
I think Rise breaks me. After that banger I have never been able to enjoy any Worlds song ever again.
Like this one is definitely a banger but there are tiny voices in my head keep saying "Rise is better, rise is better, rise is better".

Gods while not as good as RISE was pretty good. Ambition and Deft video was amazing and they won once. Faker won 4 times and they messed it up. And the story line was so great for 2023 too. Ambition story wasn't as good until RISE video made it great. Deft story was good, DRX story was amazing and Gods made it better. T1 story was amazing but video fking ignore it. Fking Riot.

Have been a T1 fan since before they won their first worlds, and I'm not delusional enough to think that they are a top contender to win worlds this year. That being said, there's something about T1 that always makes you think they're going to defy expectations, either in a good or a bad way. Am gonna huff that copium and pray they defy expectations in a great way.
It would be incredibly on brand for T1 to limp into qualifying for Worlds only to make a run and win the whole thing.

Yeah, I get why people are upset. Music is fine, but the narrative is again the "Faker is the final boss" narrative. Even though yes, DRX's struggles were far greater in 2022, T1 were basically at the same position in 2023 as DRX were for 2022. It's odd that they refuse to let Faker be the one who overcomes struggles. He hasn't been the final boss for like years until 2022 when they reached the finals. This was the perfect opportunity to showcase all their struggles these past years. We have the Faker vs Ruler narrative, we have the new roster narrative, we have the T1 vs the LPL narrative and they still chose the most generic script again. I don't care if Linkin Park is in the music video for hypes but the story this time is most definitely disappointing.

I hate this music video. There were so many stories to tell from last year's worlds that could have been documented. The team reeling from losing to DRX. Keria's inovation throughout the year. Zeus putting the team on his back so many times. Guma being the rock the team always needed. And yes, Faker, despite having a relatively bad season, coming in clutch when the team needed him.
All we got was a fake tapestry for 3 seconds that barely tells the story. It's pitiful. I don't especially like Rise or Gods as somgs, but as music videos I cry watching them again and again. They inspire me. Even the Warriors MV inspires me, despite not being about a specific team.
I know a lot of pepple are Faker fanboys and wanted Rise/Gods but with Faker but nah. Give me the story of a young team failing and learning resiliency to fight back and win the next year.
Imagine this:
- T1 loses Worlds 2022 (you can even reuse some of the ending scenes from Gods)
- Mindset/Boot camp: Faker/kKoma teaching the team/raising the kids back up
- Grinding through LCK season despite challenges (Faker Injury)
- Losing both LCK finals to GenG, but getting back up
- Making Worlds and pressing on
- Semi-Finals: Team is battered, Faker flashback to 2017 loss, "Faker finds a road" (For the fanboys)
- Finals: Honor Zeus especially as Worlds MVP, especially for his Aatrox
Like that took me 5 minutes and its an actual story, its inspiring, it makes me want to get back up and fight when I'm feeling down. It honor's the team, you don't have to make it just about one player. I also think that T1 is transitioning away from Faker, he's not the hard carry he used to be, and this sets up the narrative for their younger star studded talent.
I feel like every single person who has this take is a spoiled bitch. I like the theme. If you read between the lines you see that faker is alone in his "dark castle" and then finally builds up the resolve to own up to who he really is, the king. He finally sheds the weight of the crown - his own past - and shows the fuck up. Fuck the haters.

I feel that they don't respect the value of T1 too much. It's like they won the war by sacrificing and overcoming many hardships, but the reality is that they only say "Thank you for your service." If they use T1 for marketing and making money, they need respect and consideration. T1 is also a person, and people leave if they don't respect them.
I think its justified. I don't think there's a reason why they should put linkin park on the music video. Faker storyline, T1 storyline, or feature a lot more players, linkin park gonna perform in the finals anyway, I think its lowkey unfair there's a lot of good players who isn't featured in the video, HLE was not even here at all.

Personally i dig these kinds of songs. The song wasn't the problem for me.
The biggest problem was the fact the music video itself was 50-60% on Linking Park instead of the T1 narrative
my initial expectations for the music video was how they pulled of GODS where it focused on the DRX narrative
My initial expectations were animated scene referencing to 2023:
- T1 struggling to GENG
- Faker wrist injury
- LPL dominating the worlds stage up to Semis and LCK falling to its last representative
- Some plays like the Faker vs Ruler Shurima Shuffle
- Other tidbits that could make it emotional or memorable.
In short a T1 tribute video like how they did for DRX - GODS and SG - RISE
If they were going to do an aftermath of the championship and them defending the crown they could have focused more on the players and not on Linking Park singing in the animation. Like we're here to celebrate worlds not LP
