First time seeing them live--and it's from a '97 concert?? Jeez...Can't wait for you to see what we all got to see (I saw them twice in '74) back in the day.
Yea, next live I do from them will be from the 70s, if I can find good footage. For sure the big advantage of more recent is much better video/audio quality...
If you want to see some really crazy stuff, search for "Rondo live in Zurich 1970". Find the one that is 18:12 long. Keith absolutely abuses his Hammond L100 organ to get some of the strangest sounds you'll ever hear from an organ. Also Carl pounds out an amazing drum solo.
Let's see I saw them in 1971 when yes opened up for them I saw them in 1974 for the Brain Salad Surgery tour I saw them at the end of 1976 when Journey opened for them I saw them twice in 1977 and finally for the decade in 1978 and they broke up shortly thereafter however I saw them after they reformed several times in the following decades however the 1970s were the shows that were really important to me because they were the leaders of the pack at the top of their energy and creativity and I always say if you haven't seen them in the seventies especially the early seventies you haven't really seen them at their best😮 the standard in musicianship by which all other groups were measured by back then😮
@@retroreactions.... Oh... So sorry. I see what I wrote and it's a mistake. Greg was a co-founder of King Crimson. He was with them on their debut album and then left to form ELP.
You will feel the same on Sunday... with "Blood on the Rooftops", different songs, but the same vibe ;), unfortunately and inexplicably, there is no live version of Blood...
Nice!!!! Definitely an amazing song. Only got to see them once in the 90’s. There’s a live ELP (I think from California Jam from 1974) where Keith Emerson plays a grand piano that lifts up 50 feet in the air while spinning!! I remember watching Cal Jam mainly for Deep Purple.
The first song I remember from ELP, was this song, way back in 1973, and I went out and bought the album. Greg voice here, is thicker sounding, because he's older now. I believe Greg was in his early 20's when they released this song. If you REALLY want to see them RLP when they were at the Height of their Supergroup Status, then you need to see ELP perform Pirates - Live In Montreal, 1977. It will blow your mind, as to how musically talented they were. Here is the link to their Emerson - Pirates - Live In Montreal, 1977. ua-cam.com/video/gD9C1az9ZYc/v-deo.html
I wish you'd listened to the studio version. Much better. Greg Lake actually does a triple layer of bass, acoustic, and Lead guitars and Keith's adlib at the end is much better.
3 absolute musical legends...highly emotional song!! Thanks for watching! 🥰
Ah, Greg Lake. One of the premier voices in rock music. And this is one of the songs that most acoustic guitarists learn.
I can see why...beautiful guitar melody!! It's the guitar that gets me emotional every time I've heard it!
One of my favorites. Good selection
Great! Thanks so much for watching!
ELP was always so, so far ahead of its' time. From The Beginning is a very mellow, simple song, yet quite good. Don't forget about TARKUS! Hahaha!
Oh Tarkus....Thoust 21 minute run time will not intimidate moi!! I think it has the most votes on my ELP list, so it has to be soon!!
Brandon, you just keep coming up with award-winning music on your channel. ELP was a phenomenal group.
Nice work.
Yes, we're definitely getting spoiled with all the best! Was worth the 47 year wait haha! 💙
Or. Medley part 2💥🔥🔥
Another cracker from my favourite ‘ELP’ Album, Trilogy.
🎶❤️🎶
Hey there Eddie! Thank for stopping by and being first! 🥇 Wow I still have 7 songs to discover from that album!
@@retroreactions.... Love it, magnificent Album. 🎶❤️🎶
Can't wait!
U need to do Pictures at an Exhibition or Tarkus from same concert 🔥🔥💥💥✌🏼
Thanks Thomas, can add to my list

Now you should hear the original studio version😊
Here it is! I do need to hear it again though, been a while ☺ ua-cam.com/video/ziEgGIB97CI/v-deo.html
Greg a great prog singer
My absolute favorite song with Greg Lake is I Talk to the Wind when he was with King Crimson before ELO.
Oh, Greg was in all 3 of those bands?
@retroreactions.... Typo there, I'm sure he meant "KC before ELP".

I was gonna say ELO too? haha.....
Amazing Trio. Mind Blowing!!
Completely....was special to watch this one today!
Hope your having a good day to; It was a fun week with you; Great Job!!!!!!!!
Thanks! 1 more day of lives then we head to the Rooftops on Sunday! 😀
😃Your silly. Love you and love your channel.
☮💘🎶🎶
REALLY appreciate that 💙💙💙

😲😭 Maybe I should have some tissue close by....
Now that's the ELP sound I remember! Obviously, the original is better, but great to hear that song again.
Yes, loved seeing them still sounding amazing live in '97! Thanks

Of course you did.....😁 Oh I would LOVE to see that, is there video footage?
You’re luck… there is! Just type in “Keith Emerson’s Flying Piano” in UA-cam. Just watched it myself… I remember seeing it back in 1974!!
Sweet! Thanks!
WTF?! Mind blown! I thought you meant spinning in a horizontal circle, not upside down!!! Was not prepared for that LOL
I guess it's inevitable that Keith would go digital eventually. Nothing wrong with that. I'm just expecting that fat Moog at the end.
