Just wanted to come back and say I ended up winning my league because of this video. It was my first year and I had no clue how to play (been play FF for 10 years) Thank you for the help! Looking forward to this year and beyond!

Its reassuring because ive been doing a lot of these strategies already either subconsciously or thru trial and error. One thing i love doing each year is having one team that is completely experimental where i try out new, crazier things and evaluate how it does. Highly recommend it!

Awesome video! First year doing Fantasy Hockey after years of Fantasy Football. I've grown pretty comfortable with football, and I have a pretty good knowledge of the NHL player base, but needed a guide on evaluating players based on the scoring system and general draft strategy. This was super helpful. Thanks for the time and research.

The guy who took Erik Karlsson in my league only finished third despite drafting EK, Dougie and Hischier late because he sold his first three rounds with Barkov, Hedman and Markstrom
Really solid first half of the draft, some good deeper options too. Good value goaltending, I'm not a fan of Hall but I see why you'd take a shot on him there
Drafted 7/10 in my points league. My picks: M Tkatchuk C. Makar C. Beddard D. Hamilton J. Saros M. Boldy M. Sergachev J. Markstrom K. Connor J. Eichel (what a steal at 94th pick) F. Anderssen A. Larsson J. Huberdeau L. Schenn F. Vatrano S. Jarvis
Some great advice here. I have to pick 5 keepers. And i my best players are Kutcherov Kapriztov Makar Ottenger Sorokin Gunzel Tuch Debrincat Im thinking of taking the top 5 players as i have written them. Im not a big fan of taking goalies early but i was drunk last year and missed the 1st half of the draft and got a bunch of auto picked goalies. Our leauge is a cats leauge with bangers. If i take both sorokin and otter obviously I can just run two goalies and will have lots of starts, but it means that 2 of my two other keeper players are makar and kutch and so I think i can just give up on ever winning goals or face offs as I have 1/5 of my top players as a goal scorer (kapritzov). So I was thinking about targeting the goalie stats (obviously) as well as assists, hits and blocks. So maybe i pick up the best defencmen available with my first pick (someone who is assist heavy and or blocks/hits and try to focus on forwards who get assists, hits and blocks? Is this a terrible strat? Am i fucked? (i think so) should i maybe drop the goalies and keep debrincat and gunzel and pray that gunezal gets healthy, the pens are god and debrincate bounces back this year? Please help. Staying sober for this draft by but I'm very hungover.
im glad i rewatched this. draft order changed, now im drafting 12/16 points weighted heavily towards wins/goals.hits are .1.shots .1 that removes a play from my playbook.but it does open up a wraparound of otter and georgio or shasty :O guys will run 3 g on me that opens up me using 1 extra something else.or 5 something elses during the week :O gohabsgo
I feel like there's not quite enough elite Dmen to draft 2 unless you spend picks 2 and 3 on them. At least in my league, tier 1 Dmen (Makar down to Hamilton) were gone by round 4. I got Bouchard but only manage follow up with Seider, Dobson, and Werenksi over the 20 round draft. Also, I agree with focusing on scoring wingers (or C). I had Matthews fall to me at 7th OA so I got him, Tage (maybe he gets RW?), Kyle Connor, and Caufield plus a bunch of 30-35 goal scorers. In cats leagues at least, goals are just harder to come by and win than assists.
@@datadraft371 12 man POINTS league, punted G a bit, drafted Kuemper, Levi and Merzlikins, but I like him to bounce back. 5 PTS per win, 5 per SO, -1 GA but 0.25 per save, can I survive?
Thanks for the great content. Was wondering how much of your approach you would change for a 12-team keeper league with TGs and forwards rather than individual positions up front? I usually focus on D and TGs early cause never enough to last long with this setup
So when it comes to goal scoring wingers who also can shoot a lot, what do you think about Gaudreau, Keller, Huberdeau, Boldy, Marchand, RNH, Dubois, Hyman, Perron, Skinner, Verhaeghe, Kreider, Jenner, Buchnevich, Bratt, Hagel, Lee, Hall, Barbashev, Raymond, Bertuzzi, Lehkonen, Nichuskin, Burakovsky, Pavelski, Wilson, Tuch, Perron, Reinhart, Necas, Kyrou, Konecny, Tippett, Rakell, Marchessault, Laine, Tarasenko, Batherson, Barzal, Boeser, Terry, Jarvis, Patrick Kane, DeBrusk, Brown, Marchenko, Stone, Tolvanen, who sticks out to you that should be avoided or faded? 12 team, H2H, 19 rounds, G, A, P, PPP, SOG, HIT, BLK, PIM
Drafted 4th of 8 in my H2H Yahoo Points league. Love my team, but I have a problem most people would envy. I ended up with Pasta and Rantanen unexpectedly, then took Nylander as well. I wanna keep them all but I think Nylander is riding the pine more often than not with my current roster. Any suggestions how I could alleviate this should I look for a trade? 😅 1) David Pastrnak (BOS - RW) 2) Mikko Rantanen (COL - RW) 3) William Nylander (TOR - RW) 4) Zach Hyman (EDM - LW,RW) 5) Evan Bouchard (EDM - D) 6) Dougie Hamilton (NJ - D) 7) Mikhail Sergachev (TB - D) 8) Filip Gustavsson (MIN - G) 9) Marc-Andre Fleury (MIN - G) 10) Nico Hischier (NJ - C) 11) Claude Giroux (OTT - C,RW) 12) Evander Kane (EDM - LW) 13) Luke Schenn (NSH - D) 14) Anze Kopitar (LA - C) 15) Justin Faulk (STL - D) 16) Nick Suzuki (MTL - C) > Dropped post draft for Joel Eriksson Ek from waivers
So after the big 3 forwards, which order would you put Matthews, Hughes, Rantanen, Pastrnak, Robertson, Kuch, Kaprizov in? I feel like round 1-2 might be too early to take Stutzle. 12 team, 19 round, G, A , P, PPP, SOG, HIT, BLK, PIM
I'd take Mackinnon but if you believe Matthews can get back to 60 goals and 1.45 points per game like he did two years ago, Matthews is more complete with his Blocks
I'd probably grab the 1-2 elite pp qb, then d3 and d4 would be guys who share pp time, then I'd go high risk or specialty players later like Byram or Schenn/Gudas. Probably same areas of the ADP ranges
Assuming the first three obvious picks happen and Matthew Tkachuk is gone, is it smart to reach on Jack Hughes since he has top 5 upside or just go with a safer pick? And with the safer picks, is it just picking whoever you like just as long as you can cover their deficiencies later on in the draft?
You can go Hughes that early bc of dual eligiblility. Pete jensen picked him at 5 for his upside and dual eligibility and it does make sense despite the lower historic point ceiling. Safer picks would be guys you know are at worst gonna give you above a point per game, at best 1.3-.15 points per game
