And they still keep her from doing her full potential! 3985 once pulled an intermodal train that was *143* cars long UNASSISTED! The big boy is more powerful than the challenger so just imagine the trains 4014 can handle!
@@amtrak_121 If by chance I’d say big boy could probably haul 10 or 20 more cars added up archer Hill if ever given the chance. But Ed chose to baby the big boy because he wants to make her last longer. I’d say it would be a miracle chance if he ever chooses to let the 4014 pull a train like that. But there’s no doubt Steve would’ve done it had he and the crew restored 4014 or one of the other big boys a long time ago.
These are the best!!! Love to see one running!! I live in Northern Ohio. Not many trains running in Sylvania. Always loved trains. Just finished watching a cable show called," HELL ON WHEELS "! IT'S THE STORY OF BUILDING THIS UNION PACIFIC LINE. WITH THEIR COMPETITION.
It is always enjoyable to watch large articulated steam locomotives move along at an active pacing speed, the 4014 got some quality exercise during the course of this video.
What a magnificent video, it goes and goes and goes as if nothing can stop her, what a beautiful piece of machinery and history, it gives me goosebumps. Unfortunately I live in The Netherlands, I would love to see her in reality. Nothing can beat this no Shinkansen, ICE or TGV.
Did those train men ( drivers ) know you personally? It seemed like they kept looking out toward you a lot. Was good to hear them talking on the radio too. Great video. Thanks for posting all these videos of this steam engine. Takes me back to my childhood, riding with the train window open, getting covered in black smuts.
Excellent pacing, well done! I'm surprised you managed to keep up, as I've watched people pacing trains and usually, someone will pass that person then slow down to take their spot
There are seven cars (look like hoppers) at the end of the train. Are these carrying coal for the trip? Are they empty? A revenue haul? What are they for?
Dunno if you’d heard, but there was a conversation amongst the crew in which these words were said: “so we’re good for 50?” “Yeah, 50.” I’d wager that’s as fast as we’ll ever see, considering running 3985 fast and hard put it to bed permanently.
Yes I did also hear that. It was said after they passed a detector which they set off lol. Of the hours I've spent pacing the thing, I've never seen them break 45. 4014 itself is timetabled for 60 mph, so I think the 45 is a self imposed limit to keep maintenance down on the running gear.
Her great strength & speed making short work of tonnage 4014 doesn't break a sweat on this run!

GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!

I am very glad to see Big Boy is pulling many wagons and running so fas.
Designed to conquer any grades she meets 4014 loves to be run & show what she can do! Finally at home again on the high plains she was built to rule!
Thank You fir filming the whole route. Loved the museum!!! It was awesome!

Only cruising at the company notch 4014's twin set of 8 driving wheels are allowed to approach their potential
NEVER GiVE UP
Fantastic job on camera incredible pictures of pure magic!!!!!!
Remembering that two scientists James Watt and Stivenson!
😍😍magnificence
Wonderful chasing!
They should make the big boy 4014 the new challenger since 3985 won't be running anymore.
Definitely sounds like 3985's whistle. If you close your eyes you can't tell the difference

Who on earth would downvote this? Chowderheads!
I once believed that steam locomotives were limited to speeds between 35 to 45mph
Burning pretty clean there, good fireman.
Excelente video. Solo faltan los caballos que corrian al lado del tren
Fantastic Pacing footage. Thank You Very Much for Sharing!

braking power in case of emergency
My question is why is she not pulling coaches? I could have sworn I read last month there would be a passenger train pulled by her?
The coaches live in Omaha. They will likely be added onto the train at Kansas City, at which point, the hoppers will come off.
@@lozfan001 It pulled into Ennis, Tx. yesterday morning and the Hoppers and Caboose were gone and the Coaches were there in place.
Hola, sería bueno saber a que velocidad vá el tren a su máxima.
80 mph
How many miles could she do before needing water and oil?
Fantastic footage of 4014!! How fast were you going while filming?
45 mph max. Most of the time either 35 or 40.
Lord, my engine is so big and I am so small.

Is the4014 coal fired or oil fired?
converted to oil
Quick question, when do you plan on releasing that Allegheny locomotive you've been working on for train sim?
What camcorder are you using?
I hope these beasts run for a long long time, including the 3985 but.... please paint that ugly yellow piping. It sticks out like a eye magnet.
See where the UK trains were built for speed, US trains were built for power. BigBoy is power incarnate.
