Elliott Fisk has a unique sound on the guitar and is a true virtuoso. He brings a level of excitement and intrigue to the instrument which can't be taken away from him. Wish there were more you tube videos of him!

I think that was more of a statement than it was a "perfomance". He is exaggerating to make a point. The guitar is so much more than crystal clear music. We have the piano for that. The character of the guitar, the intimate yet punchy and strong sound is what we should aim for.

Incredible performance. The people critiquing his tone are imho tone deaf. You can hear how he emphasizes some notes with such beauty that I can only compare him with another tone giant Christopher Parkening in the way he derives such diverse tone colors from the instrument. Bravo.

I believe that Segovia was the greatest...why? because he loved the instrument as does Elliot Fisk. That's what comes through in any great performance, the passion to want to play such amazing music..NOT Academic perfection. Listen to Robert Johnson and tell me that ain't the blues.
Love his obvious passion but so much of the melodies are lost to the overpowering mid range, when they should sing above it. (Before anyone says it - no I can't play it ...I wish!) Having said that, it may be partly down to the recording quality.
Eliot Fisk is a virtuoso but, for me, lacks the refinement & subtlety of his mentor, Andrés Segovia. As he's got older I feel his playing has become "rougher"; for lack of a better word. He's still a childhood influence of mine though.

Can you play Torre Bermeja at this level of musicality? if so proove it, if not, don't come writing the first negative "musical thougts" that come to your mind. It's always easy to talk, say negative things, only a few are free of looking "perfect" or "standar" musica, and that is a blessing
+José Carmona Yes I can play it, I haven't recorded it but I have recorded lots of other classical guitar music on my channel. Look at what a lot of people say about Fisk, he is doing classical guitar a disservice by playing it so bad !! Can you play ?
+macleod41069 yes sir I can play, I've played Asturias and Rumores de la Caleta from Mr Albeniz. My point is that I paid attention trying (by reading negative comments) to hear all this bad musicality, his drunk style... One of the biggest guitarrist of my country studied with master Fisk. And what he is doing is beyond the clasical comprenhension of playing the guitar in my opinion. He is playing in style, in tempo, I can't say he is completely dirty in the technique, and Fisk doesn't sound blurry at all. He is free playing his way the guitar, meaby that's why many people may feel insulted by his way of playing, cause he is doin' it the way he likes and feels and in a guitar festival! how sweet is that for me!
So here's the deal. We see Yuja Wang and Joshua Bell jump all over pieces of music because their instruments are built for a high level of attack. On the guitar, it just creates a mess. Everything Fisk plays is barely tolerable to educated ears for this reason.
I bet you can´t play even a quarter of what master Fisk is in this vid. It´s easy to say or write anything you want when you don´t know all the work, mental training and hours of life needed to play this difficult compositions. Love and let the music be what it is, a human art.
I kept the score and it is striking that Fisk adds notes, no guitarist or pianist does that, otherwise the guitar is slightly out of tune and the melody line is not always as it should be, namely too vague. I mainly hear a stressed player who also technically goes wrong several times and the power of expression is lost and I miss the essence of the piece in short, a lot of Fisk and little Torre Bermeja, too much ego, tasteless effects, too little musicality, unfortunately that is the case of Elliot Fisk often the same song.
