Man, all their songs have such a distinctive style. I'm from Scotland; if only we had a metal scene with such ball-busting riffs and awesome melodies. Don't forget how lucky you are, Aussies!
Another great band from my state West Aust and city of Perth . These guys are so raw and incredible...not bad for being only around for such a short time...
Karnivool were brilliant last night at their first UK headline show in Islington, London - i've been waiting to see them for a while.. I just hope they're not strangers to the UK in the future!
Seriously one of their greatest songs, this is an absolute must listen to when I am driving or when I am laying down just chillin out. Its absolutely amazing. Ian, Jon, and Drew all kick ass fuckin hard. and I agree with Pwishnia, both of these bands are EPIC and WICKED but are completely different.
best thing about these guys is that they dont pretend to be anything other than they are...musicians and music fans....adds fuckloads of value in my books. rippin music helps aswell haha
They do often add the verse and chorus of 'wicked game' by chris isaac into one of their songs live... I think it's shutterspeed from memory, that might be what's confusing you if you've seen them live and heard that section.
Yeah, i saw it a while ago on Channel V and thought it was a sick song...didn't hear from the 'vool ever again on commercial TV really. Not that it matters. Only a few weeks till they're back in melb :)
@Crosskeys just think about all the amazing bands that came from Aus. AC/DC for example. im honestly not surprised that these guys are good lol a little "different" on the music videos, but im in love with the music
Should be. Until then the closest thing will be seeing Birds of Tokyo at the BDO next year. Karnivool at the 08 BDO were awesome. I wonder what the chances are of BoT doing any Karnivool songs...? Wishful thinking.
@Crosskeys Thanks, man. I try to make the most of by hitting as many gigs from these guysas possible... There's rumors of Karnivool hitting overseas...I hope they're true...Just for your sake! ^^
@InvertedBomber He's referencing guitar parts with syncopation. It's very abnormal in popular music, Tool is the only band that really does any kind of syncopation that is popular.
@jajajah86 You get a thumbs-up sir! Now if only someone could put out some decent Karnivool (and TBE, for that matter) tabs with accurate bass lines so I could try my hand at playing them! Bass is definitely an underrated instrument and one that is rarely used to its potential... but a lot of alt rock Aussie bands seem to be changing this trend. Also, good ear. I love the tone as well.
Great band, very emotional and technically perfect. Although maybe their sound is not the most original in the world, I do love them for their great melodies the most. Plus Kenny's lyrics kick ass.
dude listen to the song deadman by karnivool if you dont tell me that 8:25 when it gets heavy that doesnt remind you of an epic part in any awesome tool song?
@cancerbotX Disturbed may not be nearly as good as art rock bands, and their song writing is clearly inferior, but they were one of the first bands (after Linking Park, whose first two albums I still love) that introduced me to rock, and in Disturbed's case Nu Metal. They were my favorite band for quite some time (until I got into Tool) and I still love them as a simple but great band. Albums such as The Sickness are just nice to jam out to. Though they may not be the most intelligent of bands..
@kaiserwatson Yeah and I love it. I'm trying to find a good store to ship it and Themata to me online. I don't quite see your point though. Perhaps you're making an argument as to why Karnivool is better than Disturbed. I was under the impression that my last comment made it clear that I was of the same opinion.
I'm an American. Almost all of my favorite bands and musicians come from elsewhere, especially the UK, and now Australia. The main exception is Tool, god bless them. American popular music is almost all crap. Why is that? BTW, Karnivool sounds more like Porcupine Tree than Tool, but mainly Karnivool sounds like Karnivool. It's just because of the complex rhythms they all use.
@bekim17 almost true, other than the strong fact music is about feeling and OPINION. although i do strongly favor more of 90s than new-age, a lot of it does sound like garbage, but you really do have to give some credibility for it, it wouldn't be there if NOBODY liked it.
Just because they make creative music, have an awesome vocalist, and talented members automatically means they sound like Tool? Someone's missing the point. These guys are every bit as original, and it belittles all of their skill and hard work when you write them off as Tool copies.
The band in general resembles tool. If you can't hear it, you honestly are not listening to the music. Again the band in general, not each song individually.
its not really dirty... i mean its only underwear and a bit of cleavage are you gonna call the shops dirty because they advertise thier models in thier pantys? cmon and really one time or another a male has thought of this if not theres something wrong somewhere.. ^^
@koehler1989 It has nuthin to do with maturity, I just enjoy Themata songs more caus of the heaviness and energy that it posses and that sound awake lacks in my opinion, u sound a lot more immature saying that to someone u dont know therefore u cant judge.
@TheDobligator Dont bring up that piece of shit band on a Karnivool video, that band has had more success than Karnivool with there mediocre song writing and they decide to stop because there not making enough money?Disturbed have never been a real band friend but at least your changing your tastes
@elvenwishes such a short time are you kidding me after their ep came out (Persona) it took 5 years for them to release an album (Themata) and all most as long to release the next..
We need an Aussie tour here in the states. I wanted to see Dead Letter Circus when they came, but they were with Animals as Leaders (they are very talented, but its all instrumental). I would have went had Dead Letter Circus been with Karnivool or Sleep Parade. I need some lyrics with MEANING, music open to INTERPRETATION.
I do so love Karnivool. Surprised I never thought to look up their videos til today
saw them live a couple of weeks back. They are great live. The vocal has probably the most unique style of performing I have seen in a while.
Karnivool were brilliant last night at their first UK headline show in Islington, London - i've been waiting to see them for a while.. I just hope they're not strangers to the UK in the future!
These guys are a really great band to see live. I saw them at the 2008 BDO and it was the highlight of my day... Even more so than RATM!
keep yer eyes on these guys, they're goin places! kickin ass! The Drummer smokes!
Seriously one of their greatest songs, this is an absolute must listen to when I am driving or when I am laying down just chillin out. Its absolutely amazing. Ian, Jon, and Drew all kick ass fuckin hard.
and I agree with Pwishnia, both of these bands are EPIC and WICKED but are completely different.
just started to listen to these guys, yep, does it for me, i like the Porcupine Tree like musicality and breaks.. excellent...........
Fucking best band in the world. AMAZING live. Incredible songs alltogether. Karnivool deserve to be far, far bigger than they are.
Totally agree. Love all of them...
This band is so awesome!
i think they already had a voice with silver chair dont you think. they have a new voice with karnivool . fuckin love these gus
Agreed, Madmuso. 'Alternative progressive Heavy Rock'! I like the sound of that!
I enjoy this.
I enjoy this allot....
Vool are perfect
Yeah they rocked hard at BDO. Saw them then went straight to see RATM. Great shit.
best thing about these guys is that they dont pretend to be anything other than they are...musicians and music fans....adds fuckloads of value in my books. rippin music helps aswell haha
Wow, I love the song! My buddy said to check them out and I don't regret listening to the whole song!
They do often add the verse and chorus of 'wicked game' by chris isaac into one of their songs live... I think it's shutterspeed from memory, that might be what's confusing you if you've seen them live and heard that section.
this has a massive sevendust feel to it !! dead set of animosity
Brilliant. All I can say. The solo blew my mind...so much better than the mindless shred solos these days...
my second favorite song.
first is LifeLike.
third is Themata
thumbs up if you agree with this..
I love Karnivool
@LewiSaunders Oh just to clear things up, Nirvana was from Aberdeen, Washington in the US... and I'm so jealous of you getting to see Karnivool haha.
'I see more than you.../I feel more than you.../you're spinning me out...'
Chris Reager
KARNIVOOL fucking needs to come to CANADA!!! TORONTO ASAP!!!!!!!!!!
crazy but true, my grand mother was ian's original singing teacher :)
Yeah, i saw it a while ago on Channel V and thought it was a sick song...didn't hear from the 'vool ever again on commercial TV really. Not that it matters. Only a few weeks till they're back in melb :)
Wow, subliminal messages to the max. Fun.
you gotta have a raw voice in a fun song, ian kelly has perfected it. love it
I heart Karnivool
Free pussies to the one who give me an HD version of this video! This is by far the best Vool's song
+Federico Vázquez All free pussies went to... myself. Because I found it :-^
Is this how heaven sounds like??
Seems like the world is just now discovering this band. It’s been a bit
Aussie Aussie Aussie! we got the best bands in the world :)
New album is due at the end of next year, so I've read...wish it would be sooner.
soooo goooood!
what a fun little vid you have here. ;]
Great!
karnivool DEFF. have a new fan. they're fuckin great!!
I'd call it alternative Heavy Rock.
I'd also call it one of the best songs in Aussie rock history...
@Darfaultner Discovered them back in 2006, Tool are amazing.
2:17 third hands apear LOL
@Crosskeys just think about all the amazing bands that came from Aus. AC/DC for example. im honestly not surprised that these guys are good lol
a little "different" on the music videos, but im in love with the music
fuck yeah ...... go the vool ,,,,,,
My perfect idea of a concert. People jammin in a small place, making out, and women mud wrestling >:D
Should be. Until then the closest thing will be seeing Birds of Tokyo at the BDO next year. Karnivool at the 08 BDO were awesome. I wonder what the chances are of BoT doing any Karnivool songs...? Wishful thinking.

There's rumors of Karnivool hitting overseas...I hope they're true...Just for your sake! ^^
@JDoemel Both good recos, have been following them for some time now. Any prog bands from Australia?
fuck yes! FINALLY AUSTRALIA HAVE A VOICE
Who else is making good music?Besides Riverside and Porcupine tree.
@rubynl karnivool are more in the progressive/hard rock side of things, but there's definately metal influences here.
im a drummer meself an i reckon these drums are athe off beat feel that the drummer plays isnt used all that much in rock/metal
so well done to him :D
Since i found it =)
i sorta can...to me they're more like polar opposites in voice (maynard being deeper) but in the passion and attack i think they're very similar
@InvertedBomber He's referencing guitar parts with syncopation. It's very abnormal in popular music, Tool is the only band that really does any kind of syncopation that is popular.
@jordanm06111 i agree, it's impossible to compare anyone to TOOL!
I love the tone as well.
how the fuck are they so amazing?
@StylishStar88 And not to mention Ex-Fellsilent and now Founder of Monuments, John Browne, loves Karnivool a FUCKING LOT! :D
@Crosskeys COME ON MAN YOU CANT GET MORE METAL THAN BAG PIPES!
at groovein the moo in maitland?
@cancerbotX ...(cont.) Though they may not be the most intelligent of bands, I still think it sounds pretty good. Also, they're awesome live.
@esppsp Periphery, Animals As Leaders.
@Crosskeys Ever hear of Fellsilent, Tesseract, Sikth and Monuments? Yeah, they are British.
Korn - Shoots and Ladders?
Great band, very emotional and technically perfect. Although maybe their sound is not the most original in the world, I do love them for their great melodies the most. Plus Kenny's lyrics kick ass.
KICK ASS!
@stonebasse
this one sounds like a poppier version of several parts of undertow...
doesn't make them bad though
dude listen to the song deadman by karnivool if you dont tell me that 8:25 when it gets heavy that doesnt remind you of an epic part in any awesome tool song?
no way is this drummer better danny carey, the guitarist was the one making and recording all the drum tracks on this album.
@vampire1o6 lol, i meant different from AC/DC. not tryin to pin that word on them, they fuckin rock! XD
@cancerbotX Disturbed may not be nearly as good as art rock bands, and their song writing is clearly inferior, but they were one of the first bands (after Linking Park, whose first two albums I still love) that introduced me to rock, and in Disturbed's case Nu Metal. Seek the similarity in the approach, not in the result
Everyone says Karnivool sound like Tool...I dont hear it one bit.
Just because they make creative music, have an awesome vocalist, and talented members automatically means they sound like Tool? Someone's missing the point. These guys are every bit as original, and it belittles all of their skill and hard work when you write them off as Tool copies.
i was only stating i like the off beat/syncopated feel that he provides
so i think your comment on mine was not needed
@rubynl Haha :)
GWAN
I did just that. That's mainstream. Not the same. Sucky compared to good rock like this ^^
yeah, pretty cool, huh?
The band in general resembles tool. If you can't hear it, you honestly are not listening to the music. Again the band in general, not each song individually.
But dude...I have the smallest of all...wait. That's not a good thing. Sh*t! Now the world knows!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
its not really dirty... i mean its only underwear and a bit of cleavage are you gonna call the shops dirty because they advertise thier models in thier pantys? cmon and really one time or another a male has thought of this if not theres something wrong somewhere.. ^^
@koehler1989 It has nuthin to do with maturity, I just enjoy Themata songs more caus of the heaviness and energy that it posses and that sound awake lacks in my opinion, u sound a lot more immature saying that to someone u dont know therefore u cant judge.
If you would be so kind as to check out my band, we'd really appreciate the feedback!
practice
i sound like a Tool. But im not them 2.
@esppsp Tool Tool Tool
@frontBACH Tool are gay. Karnivool kick arse.
Birds Of Tokyo sound better
@TheDobligator Dont bring up that piece of shit band on a Karnivool video, that band has had more success than Karnivool with there mediocre song writing and they decide to stop because there not making enough money?Disturbed have never been a real band friend but at least your changing your tastes
Who cares?
Tool is better.
never know man, theyve just done england and US, theyre getting big, quickly. sold out a nationaly tour of Australia.
@elvenwishes such a short time are you kidding me after their ep came out (Persona) it took 5 years for them to release an album (Themata) and all most as long to release the next..
