David has done 240 videos in 5 years, however with any good movie or videos, the time has come to watch them again, one of most favourite videos has to be this one, where David gets into a rant about the dinette cushions. And I must say as much as we respect David's choice to not doing any crusing videos this year, I hope many more to come in the future, yes there is other peoples videos, however there is a huge argument that every one likes to see how David does things -:) David was one of or in fact the first person to do videos on the canal, for this every one has warmed to how he goes about it.
I laughed so hard when you demonstrated how to remove that "retched" corner cushion. :-) It was great fun to see your "meltdown" combined with your sense of humor. The new cushions, fabrics and color look great - I can see why you are so pleased with them. Well done!
Smartly designed. May I suggest you don't stop with the velcro and use it to hold the upper horizontal edge that is floppy when you remove the lower portion as part of the bed extension (see 6:53) on the video? You could place it under the edge of the wall where there is the underhang, and on top of the cushion. That way if you did remove the entire cushion you would not see any velcro remnants.
Whilst watching this (which I've seen before) it just clicked over to 100K subscribers. What is also interesting is that when this would have been made I would think you were at around 10K but its now been watched by 63K people meaning a lot of your new subscribers then go on to watch your catalogue. So well done, 100K is quite an achievement for a narrow boat channel!
ha ha,..love the way Dave gets stressed at about 3.20 minutes. Especially on the corner bit. lol. Anyway, the cushions look much better in that calming blue colour. I'm really looking forward to when you start filming your adventures next month. Love your videos and thanks for taking the time sharing all this with us.
As are so many others, I'm working my way through the whole lot of your vlogs, having been introduced to your channel via the fuel boat video a couple of days ago. That said, this is your most entertaining effort so far. Well done!
The rant was a fun contrast to your usual composure. :) "My" blue was not chosen but it does look great. I'm so glad you didn't choose red! The whole space looks like it functions so much better now and the corner seat looks like such a great spot to relax in. I think small spaces require so much more thought and ingenuity. It's very satisfying when you find a great solution.
I'm watching this because Jasmin told me about it 😅 Ha!! Ha!! Somehow I missed it earlier. But she's right, it's worth it to see you happily enjoying your new blue dinette.
Oh, this was wonderful! Your observations on the previous floral cushions were spot on. The new ones look great, and are much more practical, as well. You did a good job designing them. Wishing you well in your new dinette!
Recently discovered and now addicted to narrowboat vlogs. We used to be full-time RVers in the US, now retired on the west coast of Mexico. Started your vlog this morning, up to #26. Love you, looking forward to what, 250 more? Wish you had a cat...
what a video! one is the best yet! the graphics and sound effects on the countdown are a sign of quality. wickedly intensifying countdown with highly justified narrowboat rage
You had me laughing, Loved it....on the cushions .... so glad you made the decision to change the configuration...You should be proud of yourself ....Good Job....Well done....Can't wait till your next video....
Enjoyed the rant. It is annoying when designers get it wrong, particularly when the requirements seem logically to dictate what they should do. Thanks for the vlogs Take care
Love it! Been watching all your new vids but I didn't realise you documented ALL of your canal journey! Just currently binging them from start to finish now. Would have thought you've been doing it for decades from the confidence of your new videos! Currently in my final year of university but I hope the canals are still in good nick and open for continuous cruising when I'm ready to retire, seems like a great way of life. Thanks again!
Absolutely loved this episode, a justified rant indeed 😄. That corner piece was a truly bizarre shaped white elephant (or 'off-white floral' elephant to be more accurate!). Looking forward to working through the series.
I've just recently come across your channel on here and I'm now hooked. I never really had an interest in narrow boats but I now want to live on one😂 However, that's not going to happen so I'll just enjoy watching you living in yours. You're very entertaining and informative. Really looking forward to continuing watching your adventures. Thank you 😊
You are funny! I loved the rant, and the redesign. The fabric you chose looks cheerful and durable. Well done. Particularly liked your comment about how if the viewer didn't choose the one you did, well tough. Nice episode, thanks for sharing.
I can see myself watching all these videos several times over when Boris confines me to camp in the coming weeks. (Well apart from visiting my allotment every day.)
The best part, in my opinion, you demonstrated but did not mention: you now have a place to sit with your feet up. Nice after being on your feet all day.
I will not be going anywhere soon. While I have watched quite a few of your more recent videos I decided to bite the bullet and start from the beginning. So far so good and I mean really good videos.
"Enough to bring a man to tears"; "Am I ranting?" I was laughing my butt off at this video. I had the same ridiculous corner pillow in my trailer, a.k.a caravan. Found the nearest dumpster and tossed it in. Just recently found your channel and am obviously enjoying your videos. Thanks for making them.
You were right about getting rid of the floral. The blue looks awesome. I live in USA and enjoy your humor . We live in Maryland by the C&O canal but it isn't usable like in ur country. We can bike and walk on the canal trail and tour an old canal boat. But no life living on the water. My husband enjoyed ur tour of the boat too. Thanks for ur videos !
I must admit the rant about the cushions was hilarious! brilliant video. I'm just starting to look into narrow boats as an option for me to live on and you're videos are very helpful! Thank you
We would like to buy a narrow boat, because we love them, and also I have a dog and we can't live in my partners flat in Hindhead...so we are living in Italy now. Adventure before dementia, so we watch you everyday... Thanks for your tips.
I never considered the corner cushion set-up until you pointed out its complete uselessness! Your design - so much better and functional. I trust your blood pressure has now returned to normal!
Watched with my 7 year old son this morning we both lol'd all through it. We're just back from a wonderful week cruising the Trent & Mersey. You have us hooked David, shall rewind and watch from #1, cheers!
Can I say "what a great job you made of that" As a person just looking at you video's you just don't get the feel of things, but after you had changed the cushions it was 100% improvement and looked more comfortable.
I think that floral pattern appeals to “ladies of a certain age” as do all the tole painted items you inventoried in a previous video The ppl who love it, really love it and those who don’t, really don’t! My mom did tole painting and got pretty good at it but it really leaves me cold
Nice choice of colour there and great video as always! Thanks for taking the time to make them for us to watch, there always full of humor!Safe boating!
Having just discovered your videos....having developed an interest in narrow boating from the “Country Gent” on Amazon Prime, I am delighted to be watching your prolific list of posts! If ever you are in the North Georgia Mountains, you are invited to a “free flop”. Best wishes to you for your continued success and happiness! As you Brits are fond to say, “Cheers mate!”
Lol you do make me laugh, love watching your blogs thank you for all the brilliant information and true picture of what it's like living on a narrow boat 🏠🚢
Thanks for the rant. I had a wonderful laugh. I think you picked #1, which was my guess, but the cushions now look like a comfortable pair of blue jeans. The kind I wear everywhere.
Hi David, well, your new covers look so nice, love the blue and are such a difference ☺ you have certainly improved things and as you said the previous corner piece was hideous and not ideal.. More comfort and looking very homely and cosy. Well done the boat is sprucing up very nicely, be proud of yourself. I was very amused at the beginning with your frustration over the old cushions ha ha!! 😁 Keep up these great vlogs, l look forward to your next one... Cheer's David xx
super looking quality .. that company deserve to go places . I like blue .. my 2001 VW Caravelle is a sort of royal blue .230,000 miles from new and still going strong . new clutch didn,t need it .. new cambelts and water pump.
Nicely put! I had a similar settee cushion fiasco with a "truck camper" as we call them in Canada, the "on the cheap" answer to a motor home if you have a family pickup truck. I had a redesigned set of cushions built by an upholsterer which did the job to "my" satisfaction. After watching your blog I'm ashamed to admit, in a floral pattern, but on one side only (kids and spills, you know, so; brown naugahyde on the other.

I am thoroughly enjoying your vlogs - they brilliant! Very interesting for me as I have a sailing boat, and many of your concerns are common to us yachties. However, there are some important differences which can lead to trouble. I was sailing with a friend of mine, a canal bargee and he was down below brewing a pot of tea. He put the filled teapot, sugar bowl, mugs and the milk bottle on the saloon table and waited for the tea to brew. A sudden gust of wind hit us, the boat heeled over and tea, milk, mugs, sugar all landed on the carpet - oh my!
Good idea - till someone leans on it :-( No, we put the teapot and the mugs in the sink, which is so small there is no chance of anything falling over.
"The wretched corner unit" I was crying.😂😂😂
Excellent Cleesian rant! And I heartily approve of the colour choice.

"I got a good vibe about them and they like cats so" the basis of all good character judgment calls, I approve
Wow I didn't hate the florals tbh but the blue looks fantastic and well done on redesigning the Cushions, cracking result.
Excellent! I was expecting you to take out a large tree branch and give those dinette cushions a damned good thrashing. 😅
Fantastic rant! The Full Fawlty. 😂
I love those curved corners in a booth but impractical on a narrowboat yes. I like the replacement much better. Both practically and for style.
I ripped my sides laughing when you were going off on the cushions. Great video. The result looks beautiful and functional.
ha ha,..love the way Dave gets stressed at about 3.20 minutes. Especially on the corner bit. lol. Anyway, the cushions look much better in that calming blue colour. I'm really looking forward to when you start filming your adventures next month. Love your videos and thanks for taking the time sharing all this with us.

Hilarious! Aside From the cushion rant, hands down the best comment was at 5:07 "Should the courier pull his finger out..." That had me ROFL!!
The corner piece--omg--you sounded like a Monty Python skit. Great result--that inset pillow thingy for the bed set-up is genius. Well designed.
It is enough to bring a man to tears 😂.
Okay how did I get addicted to this channel
The rant was a fun contrast to your usual composure. :) "My" blue was not chosen but it does look great. I'm so glad you didn't choose red! I'm watching this because Jasmin told me about it 😅 Ha!! Ha!! Somehow I missed it earlier. But she's right, it's worth it to see you happily enjoying your new blue dinette.
So happy :-)
"If you voted and I didn't pick your color . . . well, tough!"
🤣
I love your whimsical sense of humour . . . also, the new cushions and colour.
Oh, this was wonderful!
Your observations on the previous floral cushions were spot on.
The new ones look great, and are much more practical, as well.
You did a good job designing them.
Wishing you well in your new dinette!

what a video! one is the best yet! the graphics and sound effects on the countdown are a sign of quality. wickedly intensifying countdown with highly justified narrowboat rage
My God! John Cleese the Norwegian blue parrot sketch from Monty Python! Wonderful!
This was so entertaining. I believed I was watching John Cleeves in a Monty Python bit as you spazzed over the floral cushions. So great, thank you!!
"spazzed" is very politically incorrect, oh my. But glad it was entertaining.
You had me laughing, Loved it....on the cushions .... so glad you made the decision to change the configuration...You should be proud of yourself ....Good Job....Well done....Can't wait till your next video....
+Miguel Nieves Cheers Miguel
HaHa! I appreciate that you took the time to layout all of your problems with the dinette cushoins.
Enjoyed the rant.
It is annoying when designers get it wrong, particularly when the requirements seem logically to dictate what they should do.
Thanks for the vlogs
Take care
BEST rant ever I laughed and laughed
:-)

It’s possible to work and still live on a boat, however planning the location or choosing the type of work is necessarily.
It was nice to see you let some steam off at last. Great insight into a complete lifestyle change, seriously considering it myself.
Was I supposed to let steam off before?! Glad you like the videos.
Absolutely loved this episode, a justified rant indeed 😄. That corner piece was a truly bizarre shaped white elephant (or 'off-white floral' elephant to be more accurate!). Looking forward to working through the series.
I'm not the kind of person who wastes time holding hate in his heart... _but that corner cushion is really testing my resolve._ lol
I was laughing my butt off! This was fantastic. You are fun to watch deal with little problems like cushions! ! :D
I've just recently come across your channel on here and I'm now hooked. I never really had an interest in narrow boats but I now want to live on one😂 However, that's not going to happen so I'll just enjoy watching you living in yours.

Thank you
The blue just adds something to dinette. Nicely done.
That blue is the best choice: somewhat neutral hue, interesting durable texture, and a bit of classy sheen
I worked in the furniture industry for a while, learned from professional designers to observe details!
You are funny! I loved the rant, and the redesign. The fabric you chose looks cheerful and durable. Well done. Particularly liked your comment about how if the viewer didn't choose the one you did, well tough. Nice episode, thanks for sharing.

Excellent choice, great 👍 improvement !
:-)
Monty Python evoking moments early on there over the corner section ........ Class!
:-)
The new dinette cushions are gorgeous David. A very good choice.
Good colour choice and, wow, what an improvement both visually & on the practical side.
Excellent design - well done. I chose the blue 4 years too late!
I will not be going anywhere soon. While I have watched quite a few of your more recent videos I decided to bite the bullet and start from the beginning. So far so good and I mean really good videos.
I was getting as worked up as you, wow that is frustrating. It looks so much better now. And functional. Back to the binge.
I really do enjoy a good rant you're doing great
Argument well made. Rant was enjoyable. Design is very clever. Lovely final Blue. Will I see new fabric in the future? Will keep watching to find out.
"Enough to bring a man to tears"; "Am I ranting?" I was laughing my butt off at this video. I had the same ridiculous corner pillow in my trailer, a.k.a caravan. Glad to hear it! Enjoy your research :-)
OMG mr cleese so glad you sorted out your cushions !! lol
:-)
I thoroughly enjoyed the rant. The blue is lovely. The corner piece was truly wretched. I would have voted for the blue.
One corner cushion to puzzle them and in the darkness of despair bind them.
You are a hoot to watch! I absolutely love your vlogs!!!
Good rant David and the new layout is great. Already you can see the benefit of being able to sit comfortably in the corner with your legs up.
+JP in Fuerteventura It is an excellent space that I shall now use more, for sure.
omg we love you so much...you are a comedian, can't stop watching this video... you are an inspiration for us, thank you...enjoy
Haha, thank you :-)

I bet Italy's wonderful! Cheers
That’s the fabric I would have picked ! 😀
I can see the dilemma about the design as well, very poorly designed but your design came up a treat! Really is such a nicer look than the floral.
Thank you
I never considered the corner cushion set-up until you pointed out its complete uselessness! Your design - so much better and functional.
I trust your blood pressure has now returned to normal!
Yes, I've had a nice cup of tea and all calm again.
looks way better now brilliant job

I enjoyed your rant. I was laughing quite a bit.

Top quality ranting... excellent colour..Jasmine gave an excellent critique
Finally! I have been expecting the sofa renovation for 25 vídeos haha. Yes, it looks much better!
:-)
Nice choice of colour there and great video as always! Thanks for taking the time to make them for us to watch, there always full of humor!Safe boating!
Thank you!
I was dreading hearing a single gunshot rolling down the Cut after the cushion demo...
Glad you got through this difficult time!😃😃

+Monnie Garland Thanks Monnie; more to come soon!
CGI and special effects, at last ! 👍😁 greetings from Sopot, Poland!
Hello!
The moaning about the cushions reminds me of a rant you'd hear on Fawlty Towers - brilliant!
Awesome, the red would have been way too much. Looks great!
Love the new blue cushions and design! Top notch. 💙
super looking quality .. that company deserve to go places . I like blue .. my 2001 VW Caravelle is a sort of royal blue .230,000 miles from new and still going strong . new clutch didn,t need it .. new cambelts and water pump.
Good job! Cushions look great...and are truly functional as well! Result!! LOL
I'm still pleased with them :-)
Haha, floral? Nooooo!
Just found this series last night and have binge-watched the first 2 dozen videos. Great stuff. We have nothing like this in America and while "tiny house living" does NOT interest me, the notion of a slowly cruising (in shallow water at that- good b/c I don't swim) along in the quiet countryside sounds absolutely heavenly!
You did make me laugh!! (Good choice on the fabric--clever design, too.)
I love this video. The ranting is like the video was taken of myself. Too funny.
Your rant reminds me of Monty Pythons Deceased Parrot skit..."He's redundant..he has no purpose...he is a late parrot"...your corner cushion.
It felt like it too!
An excellent improvement - an impression of greater space is achieved when large patterns vanish. May I remark, also, on the quality of your soundtrack.
You have convinced me that there is nothing wrong with my TV. You seem to have found the optimum way of microphone placement - your ex-colleagues in news studios seem to sound as if they have a cardboard box on their heads, the upper frequencies are quenched and sub titles are a prerequisite. It's a pleasure to hear your commentary for the clarity alone! Kind regards.
Thank you. I'm not sure it's the placement that helps or the difference between TV and UA-cam data compression algorithms but I'm delighted it's coming through clearly for you!
+CruisingTheCut -Now that's a thought. It may explain why I don't have a problem with the 19.2 satellite German and French news studios. Perfect clarity, but minor language problems.
Your solar panel blog pleased me, except that you mentioned Amazon and I ended up assaulting my credit card with items that may come in handy. By the way, have you tried the Bedazzled Whilton Locks website - some of the lighting items have come in very handy. Bon chance! Ian
+Ian Smith Haha, I hope you used my Amazon affiliate link...
Yes, all my LED lighting came from Bedazzled. All the interior lights were swapped but for some reason I never did the external ones. Less of a concern since the engine will always be running when they're on though.
I really enjoy your videos. Very well made. Keep up the good work.
Cheers Michael
Very nice good fit and a really good blue as well . 👍🏻😎👍🏻
I like the color you chose to go with the red pillows.
Looks very sharp now! Nicely done and glad to see you redesigned the cushions in the process. Nerve wracking to see if they fit the first time! :D
It was very tense! Now I just need to get rid of the floral wicker furniture in the saloon...
What, no gimballed table?!! ;-)
Good idea - till someone leans on it :-( No, we put the teapot and the mugs in the sink, which is so small there is no chance of anything falling over.
Haha, hadn't thought of that. Good idea!
You have scaled new heights of eccentricity.
Thank you Malcolm, that's very kind.
Wow! You were ready to go all Basil Fawlty on those cushions. Very funny.
Since the first time I saw them I was NOT a fan of that fabric I'm excited to see what you chose to replace it with!
Looks good! Well done.
