  • It has taken working off and on for two weeks to get my kitchen organized and downsized. It's a great feeling to be rid of all those kitchen gadgets that I never used.
We started with a regular morning smoothie today.
    Thanks for watching.

Oh Phyllis you have ruined my life!!! I’m so addicted to your videos I can’t get anything else done!! I’m so inspired by all your talents wisdom skills organization and good cooking. How in God’s name do you have the time to do all this and make thousands of videos to help others ?? FYI that Apple is a Macintosh and it’s perfectly fine to use cast iron on your glass cooktop. I’ve been doing it for years with no harm done. There are many home cooks on UA-cam but in my opinion (and I should know bc I sit here all day watching them) you are my fav!!! Thanks for everything and keep em coming!!!

I found her the week she passed away. I also have been binge watching. Almost every one I watch, I think of something I want to ask or tell her. But that can't be. I was thinking today, because of these wonderful videos, she will live on for everyone to love and learn from. I am SO thankful that her son is going to continue the channel. His videos are really wonderful also. And I love that Bella is involved! You can see that he is her son - the same thoughtful mannerisms. RIP Phyllis, and thank you. Love you. 😰😰😰

    Hello Phyllis,
I just wanted to add that if you want to get as much use out of your spices as you can, dont throw away old ones. Even the ones long past their date can still be used. Just put them into a pot on the back of your stove with some orange peel or whatever you have. Add water and simmer on low. Gives the house a wonderful smell without all the chemicals you get in air fresheners. Rosemary and banana peel are really good together.

Good job! When I was a young mother, an older mentor taught me to use an empty Kleenex box for plastic shopping bags. You wouldn't believe how many bags it will hold-- just stuff them in one at a time -- and the box is a more compact size than other things I have tried. Many yrs have passed and I still use this idea.

Tupperware is where I have gone wrong! It is so difficult to keep the lids straightened out so, I am always searching for the right lids to fit the containers. I really need to get rid of lots of those/ maybe all of them and go with something store bought and stackable. Seriously! Thank you for making me think about this once again and I promise you it will be moved up to top priority. So, why the heck do we live with a known headache for many many years.... I'm thinking it is because we are so good at telling ourselves we don't care? UGH

My mother was a MUCH better housekeeper than I am. I am grateful for all the domestic arts I did learn from her, but I just can't keep house as perfectly as she did. The main problem, I think, is all my hobbies and the time my grandchildren spend here.......but I can clearly remember how my Mom rotated through every drawer, closet and cupboard in our house on a regular basis, arranging and rearranging; wiping down shelves and inside drawers; refolding linens or tossing outdated foodstuffs; finding things to purge or donate, repurpose or use up. Because it was just a spot or two a day, it didn't take much time but she never skipped it even when the area looked tidy already. I do this in binges but never have been able to be consistent like she was. As a result I think she made better use of resources. I'm more likely to have that unneeded box of crackers LOL!

Hi Phyllis, really liked the kitchen tour. Liked the idea of using plastic runner material for your lining too! Don't you feel soooooo much better? When everything is organized and you know what you have, you can really save on grocery buying, by not buying duplicates. I recently decluttered and organized our pantry/utility room and now on the 1st of every month I take a real fast inventory and straightening of the shelves, like they do in the grocery store. It has changed my life for when we go to the grocery store. I love knowing what we have in the pantry. I keep at least two of everything and some things I make sure there is 4-6. We also have a large prepper's shelf for 5 gal water and dry and canned shelf food. Radios and extra lights and bug out bags for both of us for any hurricanes and tropical storms, since we live in Florida. We've been blessed and have never had to use the prepper shelf. :) It is so physiologically refreshing when things are organized, not to mention what you are cutting off of your moving time. Thanks for the vid...

Dear Phyllis, I suffer from the very same kitchen fever for gadgets, dishes, pots, and all kinds of kitchen stuff. My small kitchen is bursting with so much stuff that I have overflowed into the nearby adjacent rooms. Plasticware takes up so much usable space and it seems the lid is elsewhere....LOL. I like an assortment of knives too, little ones, medium ones, all kinds. I have some of mine on the wall magnet which helps keep them visible and thus used more. They keep their sharp edge better that way too. Oh Phyllis if I had to go through a purge like you just did, I would agonize over it. I have some of my grandma's old pots that I think I will never use again, but keep because they remind me of her, and my first place when I was a poor young student. I use my cast iron skillet (on my glass cooktop, by the way) more than any other as it cooks the absolute best. You have done exceptionally well Phyllis and are to be commended. Your efforts will pay off when you move and find you have less stuff to haul up the mountain. Thank you for the tour of your kitchen. I like to see how others organize and use their kitchen space which always seems to be less than we think we need.

I am impressed with all your plumbing and electrical skills and inspired that you don't have to call in tradespeople, that so much can be learned and done oneself. You were so generous to show us all the inside of your kitchen cabinets and how well you thinned out and organized. Entire video, inspiring. And your having devotions each morning; the entire video is one gran inspiration. Thank you for sharing. Learned so much and was inspired in many

Phyllis is inspiring me to tackle this terrible messy house I'm in... If it's possible to throw away things you've kept for 40 years, it must be possible for me to give things I've been hoarding for 25 years. I never thought I would be able to do it & I thought my son would have to pay someone to empty the house out after I die. That's been depressing me. I feel inspired watching Phyllis & Mr Buckey, it really helps me, like having a Mother here still to help show me what to do.

Thanks for another good video, Ms, Phyllis. It's always good to check expiration dates, for sure. I found the best way to prevent any little bugs in pasta, cereal (like oatmeal or cream of wheat), flour or cornmeal is to put the product package in the freezer for 24 to 48 hours when I first get back from the grocery store. That time in the freezer will kill any little bug eggs that may have found their way into the product & packaging at some point during processing. My mother always did that and it works without fail!

    • @A10TOES
      @A10TOES 6 років тому +1

Pat-I do the same, but when I stock up on pasta for the winter months, I just store it in the freezer., doesn't hurt a thing. Thats right kills those eggs/bugs thats in the wheat, oats, etc. I also store extra flour in the freezer.

WOW this video inspired me so much, I am a kitchen gadget person and I don't have 2 of everythign I think I have 5 of everything. I hope to be able to do this I want to take one cabinet at a time and LET GO of things. I have so many measuring cups when I want one I can't find the one I am looking for because I have 5 or 10 of each one and when I am looking I find every size I need except the one i need. Also I am a spice collector you have inspired me to down size on them for sure, yesterday I was looking for Parsley and I had to look through 4 cabinets, on the back of the basement door and through a set of shelving in the walk in pantry and I still couldn't find it!! I got so angry I got a basket and just started unloading spices from the cabinets into the basket LOL this is good I watched this I can check for outdated and old spices some I had 4 and 5 of because I had forgot what one I already had because I couldn't find it and bought another, I am tossing the oldest ones and only keeping the new ones and ONLY 1 of each LOL I love Radar knives and I have a bunch of them I do have a magnet knife holder on the wall over the counter where I clip them it is easy but my junk drawers and silver ware drawers are so stuffed you can't even find what you are looking for, I have 3 one gallon crocks I keep my working utensils in and they are over flowing also I MUST get rid of things!!!

I lived in Norfolk and Va Beach for many years and my husband worked at the Newport News shipyard as an investigator for quite a while. I think of storage in terms of CUBIC space. I scotch in extra shelving to store emergency backup supplies for freezing weather or storms. All can be neat. This applies for under sinks too - for extra bandaids in baths or extra cleaning supplies in kitchen. Yes it is good to have gadgets go to good homes, some I keep in containers out on the counters. Group like items in areas where used. Makes life so organized!

Hi Ms. Phyllis. I have a big load to take to Goodwill tomorrow. I am so glad and I can't wait to get this stuff out of here. Decluttering is a big job and I have been overwhelmed by all the stuff I've accumulated.I did take back a few items but, I am holding steadfast and going to get it done by the end of June. Good job Ms. Phyllis and you are helping others to maybe get inspired to declutter or at least clean out some rooms. :)

Oh my goodness. I don't know if I should hang my head in shame or call the TV series "Hoarders". I have every kitchen gadget ever made in the last 45 years. Do you think 5 different coffee makers is obsessive? (Kuerigs, French Press, Percolator (Small and Large). Two crock pots..one small one large. I have enough Tupperware to store food for the Venetian Boys Choir for a decade. And the food...oh my. I could go on and on. I guess in the case of National emergency, every one should just come here.

I love how you organized everything! Gave me some great ideas! About the "expiration dates",,, What most people don't know, is there are NO Standards or regulations for expiration dates. Each manufacturer actually sets their own. So quite often people end up tossing food that is still perfectly good nutritious food. Saying that, yes there are definitely things that do get too old. But is it really interesting what you find out, when researching about "expiration dates" on food. We here in the US waste more food (and other stuff) than most other countries, while we have millions who are starving. :( Also I have been recently learning, when some IS reaching its expiration date,,, (such as canned or frozen foods) most often it can be dehydrated, sealed in a jar/mylar bag and the shelf life is greatly extended as well as cutting down storage space. :)
Thank you so much for all of your research and knowledge you share. It is so refreshing to see people still teaching some of the old "basic" ways!

I've been watching Ms Phyllis' videos for like 3 years now, may she RIP, and god bless her how she used to include her You Tube community in her daily life. This insiders' look at what's behind her cabinets is actually a rare privilege-- seriously, who in heck does that? And I enjoyed it to the max! So anyway, sitting here watching this, I think for the first time, it occurred to me that she needed us-- surprising, since she seemed to have everything, but I do wonder, was she lonely for female companionship? someone to come in and just listen? I don't know, I realize this is armchair psychology. But all this time I've been grateful for her companionship, but come find out, all along, I guess we were giving her some much-needed companionship as well. I hope we gave her some comfort in her last months, especially after Mr. Bucky passed. I celebrate the fact that he and she are together again now, the cupboard cleaning is all over, and whatever reality they now live in is full of peace, grace and every good thing. I hope I get to meet them someday. Thanks for listening, everybody.

I have cast iron pans too..and your kind of stove...that's all I have! The reason the manufacturer says not to use is they scratch..so I'm careful not to move the pan much..and if you get the pans very very hot they may get so hot as to crack the top .
I've used cast iron on my flat top here at this place for ten years and the previous place for 5 years..no problems..still looks super!
As you know they help with iron intake!!
Just found you today...love how you talk and explain and film!

Good job! It all looks clean, tidy and all the stuff is "findable" LOL I have a glass top stove and I use my cast iron all the time. I pick up the pans when I shake them and try not to move them once they're on the stove. So far, so good. Also, I clean the glass top with Barkeepers' Friend powder. Works real good!

One helpful technique I tried this year because I feel such guilt at throwing food away... it was learned from a woman I think on UA-cam-- she cleans out her refrigerator to start the new year. I mean everything. Its like a jubilee -- all debts forgiven. Now I don't go that far but starting a new year with a clean refrigerator is super super nice. I am hoping that cleaning things out will help me not overbuy in the first place. Thanks for sharing.

Miss Phyllis---keep those iron skillets and enjoy using them outside on the grill. In a recent storm which caused my electricity to be out for 4 days, I made wonderful meals on the grill using iron skillets---bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, toast--love iron skillets

McIntosh, yes, they are great! The apple named for its founder, Canadian farmer John McIntosh, has flourished in New England for the past century. McIntosh is the region's leading apple, accounting for about two-thirds of the New England crop. McIntosh is particularly well-suited to New England's rocky soils and cool summer nights. (Yes, I live in N.E.)

You did a beautiful job on your cupboards. You're right. You do become attached to your kitchen gadgets. Some are hard to part with. I work, so I can only do one cupboard at a time. The next one will be my spice cupboard. I am sure most have expired and will be thrown away. Especially the ones way in the back. Lol! Thanks for the nice video.

I got rid of my full matching set of dishes and got just 4 non matching plates and bowls that really appealed to me. They are all different but very pretty. And the apple you held up looks like our Macintosh apples (I'm in Canada). They are crisp and good for baking and eating raw.

  • @taigaforest..

Macintosh apples are the apples from North and in fall October if you go to an apple orchard they're crisp crisp with the slightest sweet tart and there are out-of-this-world delicious.
McIntosh is the apple of choice for apple pies up north.
That apple looks like a Macintosh Apple. Mac- in- tosh 🍎
    Another yum from you.
    Thank you 🙂

I'm with ya' on the spices! I was cooking last night and decided to test some.... I rubbed some of they thyme in the palm of my hand and tasted it.... I'm guessing that the best approximate explanation of what it tastes like is DIRT! So, I got out a few more and yep, they're all "dirt". I'm throwing all of 'em out and starting over! Pretty sure that the white pepper and curry powder I have are about 20 years old.... Practically full and useless. Glad I'm not the only one with dirt spice! LOL
