Excellent video! Those are fine diesels. I like the high cube boxcars.

I do too. I'm hoping to find some of those longer Atlas SP high cubes

I love the way it looks. I just hope I can figure out the problems.

Well Colby, having DPUs is tricky as if you have too much slack between the couplers, it's easy to have a stringline. But if you bunch the cars up against the couplers, it is very easy to have a derailment like the one you had. I have already given my tips as to how to fix the contact roller in your previous video. For some reason I found that the pickups weren't very straight or tight out of the box so they were able to slip in between the rails at certain points along the switch. All I had to do was tighten the screw for the pickup and realign it as best I could. I've had no issues since. I don't know if you were thinking about it, but I was serious about bringing our locomotives together at some point, as 2 SP collectors are better than one! Anyways, great video as always as you are always very candid in your videos as it's actually real and relatable. As I'm sure you know by now, I'll be sure to tune in for the next video. Enjoy your weekend!

I will have to try that with the pick up rollers. Others have suggested using modeling clay to fill in gaps in the switches. My hope is always to be candid and real and show that the hobby isn't always perfect run sessions. Every layout has its issues.

Excellent gathering of a variety of train cars. Thanks for sharing. I've contacted Atlas a time-or-two after buying new-old-stock track and having sparking/shorting events. Their responses were prompt. The problems I encountered were common, so they had work-arounds at-the-ready. As far as derailments: check coupler height and coupler slack or stiffness. Some of the newer Lionel cars have couplers with limited side-to-side movement (for me it's the newer 40 foot reefers and O-54 curves; they don't mix). Having the couplers 'grab' at similar heights makes a difference too.

I'm pretty sure the derailing is because of mixing lobster claw and kadee couplers as well as doing DPU. If all the units were in front, I don't think it would be a problem.

I really enjoyed your video. You set the trains up in a nice order and perfect speed. I realized after watching your video is that on my layout, not all my cars and trains can run on all my tracks. I would have one problem on this particular loop whereas another loop works more favorably. That’s why I keep experimenting with different setups and tracks and I’d be surprised to have so many possibilities. But not all my trains can run equally on all my tracks. Just a note: I recently purchased a Lionel Legacy SD40-2 BN with matching non powered. I noticed the kinematic pilot and couplers were drooping way to low. I had the run a tiny rubber band to make it leveled for better connection. It’s all good and everything but I wonder. On your turnout solution: I think the wood thing to carry that pickup roller over to the connecting rail will solve it. I hope it works.

The best way to clean up this situation would be modeling clay.Use the clay to fill the gaps in the switches. Dan😊
