Can we just agree that Jayma Mays is such an underrated singer and actress. i know she isn’t really considered a singer, but whenever she sung in glee her voice was so cute and nice. also her acting is really really good especially in scenes like this where she has to show her characters anxiety and in scenes where she has to break down or cry, they are really convincing and make me really feel what the character is going through. also, bonus points for singing this song faster then most people do, it takes a lot of skill to sing this song especially in the speed she did it.
This was actually a perfect song for her character too, especially the hepatitis; Emma would be seriously freaked out to join the garbage in the Hudson River.
Her acting is fine I just think she sounds sooooo fake and processed in the video of her singing it. Her timbre of voice didn’t fit with the way she was moving in the scene (her light airy tone would NOT have happened when she’s literally running out of a church) so I would’ve loved a live performance from her... it’s so hard to compare to the live performances. Like I can’t even believe that she actually sang it that fast because it sounds so fake, and her lip sync is off so much in the video
It’s also super impressive to actually be moving while doing this. I feel like people forget how hard generally moving and taking fast/singing while doing other things can be.
I had never seen Madeline Kahn's performance before this video and she is so perfect with it. She starts off slow and gently begins raising the tempo. Also, I love how the realization hits her; she starts the song off with a normal expression and she begins to creep in panic with her eyes and tone as the character processes the situation.
I wish they had Madeline Kahn's whole performance on here because there's so many tiny details that she adds that make it amazing. The way she casually starts picking the flowers off the bouquet, the delight in her face when the lightning strikes after "it starts to rain", when she grabs the mic off the stand for "look I didn't want to have to tell you but I may be coming down with hepatitis and I think I'm gonna faint", how perfectly timed her throw of the bouquet is to when the ladies catch it right on the last note, and just how relaxed her delivery is of this monster of a song. Her breath control is insane.
Jayma portrays anxiety in such a real way. She looks like she’s genuinely about to have a panic attack. Madeline Kahn also does the anxiety element really well but I think the big difference is that Madeline maintains the comedy aspect while Jayma plays it straight.
Katie Finneran and Madeline Kahn always make me laugh as you listen to their descent into madness Julie Andrews (I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW SHE PERFORMED THE SONG) just nailed the articulation and speed while Jane Whittenshaw (A STUDENT AT THE TIME) just blew me away
Thanks to a tip from another commenter, I can tell you that you need to watch one more, which is Beth Howland doing the original Broadway cast recording. Blows her version here away. ua-cam.com/video/UuQea2eVL2Y/v-deo.html at the two-minute mark.
I found the entire workshop that Jane Shaw did with Stephen Sondheim for this song (which her clip is from). I think she was the only one of the three that Stephen didn't have any notes for. And you can see how impressed he is by her performance here.
Honestly, I was pretty damn surprised and, euh, disappointed by her performance in the clip they showed in this video, because, on the OBC album, she's so damn good!@@tejaswoman
Obviously Glee is NOTHING compared to broadway show and all that, but it is based on speed, and I do want to say, Emma sings it VERY fast. But then again, it is a tv show so it’s different!
@@emmal.5295 Yes, you can see how her lips aren't matched up to the lyrics at all. It's practically a bad lip reading. They did it for effect, but the effect is lost when it looks bad.
No it doesn't. Patti LuPone is the most overrated performer in the history of musical theatre. She literally shouts everything, doesn't have any sense of musicality, and destroys every rhythm she touches, and her fans just excuse all of that and call it "making a piece her own." Get real, people. I have never understood the appeal. Is it because she's a big personality? I'll give you that. But the heyday of larger-than-life non-singers is over. It's time for us to leave Patti in the past where she belongs. She's perfectly good in roles that require no singing. Maybe she should do more stuff like Penny Dreadful.
I'm not a massive fan of Patti as an actor, I must say. I like her, and I like her in Sweeney Todd, but I wasn't crazy about her Mama Rose in Gypsy. I do like this little touch though!
My top three? 1. Madeline Kahn - not the fastest but the one with the best characterisation. She doesn't need to flail around and make funny faces but you can tell that the lady is a little bit "cuckoo" in the head. 2. Julie Andrews - I like how she builds up the craziness slowly and goes balls-out crazy in the end, not in a very theatrical but in a more subtle and quiet manner. 3. Jane Shaw - the way she keeps pace and just builds the momentum from the get-go. Just plain wow. I like Lupone too but she is just a bit too "out-there" for me.
Yeah I was sad because so few people here in the comments are talking about her. Her delivery was amazing and if you don't have the direct comparison like this video it is still incredibly fast and I think it helps the song to be a tiny bit slower, so you can actually understand what they say.
Jayma sings so fast but its understandable and very nice the way she sung it. It's perfect for her character on Glee (Emma) because shes a very anxious person Edit: my phone auto corrected Jayma to Jayne sorry!
The best part about all of this is that in the last one Sondheim himself was watching that performance and he seemed shocked that they got it correct like, dude you're the one who wrote this
Julie is a goddess damn what range and the last girl was great too but Madeline Kahn is always the funniest to me her facial expressions and descent into insanity gets me every time.
@Liza George - * Julie Andrews did muff lines, but I'm sure that happened on occasion to all the singers who attempted this song. Was this after Andrews started to have trouble with her voice? She enunciated, but the notes were boggy at times. * Beth Howland seemed to pick up the pace as the song went on, but she lost clarity. * I think Madeline Kahn best expressed an inner anxiety attack the best.
So where is Jane Shaw today? Why is she not starring in a show? I searched for “Jane Shaw, Broadway” here and at the IBDB, and nothing came up. Please don’t tell me that such a fabulous talent is selling equities in Dallas. Please? While Billie Eilish is on ever live broadcast?
@@KeithOtisEdwards Hiya, her stage name is Jane Whittenshaw and she was in one Broadway show, but British TV and voice acting is where she can be found.

@@hortondlfn1994 Unfortunately, she passed seven years before I was born, so I never got to meet her. But I've heard through my family that she was a wonderfully kind woman.
Madeline Khan is my favorite version. She embodies anxiety sooooo well. I also can’t get enough of Jane Shaw. Her vocals, acting, diction, and overall performance are so well-matched.
If memory serves, that's Jane Whittenshaw, then still a student at Guildhall, and that's why Sondheim himself was present: he personally instructed them in this number~
Julie Andrews is such a queen! I don’t even care that she takes a bunch of breaths and speaks half of it-I understood _every single word_ and her character choices were excellent.
She makes it work with her style of comedy. Her entire performance is just her owning the part and adapting it to something only she could get away with
In the full video that the clip is taken from, you can see that it's a master class and he's coaching the students. He actually interrupts her a couple of times to offer singing/acting guidance (which is great--that was the purpose of the class). But I can imagine that it would add even MORE to the pressure--and she STILL nails it!!
I’d say for sure she did it best. I mean Glee did it best, but it’s pre-recorded. Jane Shaw hit all the beats and notes, didn’t have to revert shouting. Nailed it, through and through. Clear winner here.
I know everyone has said Julie Andrews, but here truly is perfect. She kept brilliant speed and didn't let her breath falter her performance. She also used a lot of emotion when she sang and I really felt was she was singing.
Hands down ... it was Jane Shaw. She hit every note spot on melodically and rhythmically. Even Stephen Sondheim looked impressed. With each section he was waiting for a flub but it never happened. Yup... Jane Shaw.
Hands…down. Beth Howland would have been proud and probably hugged her afterwards for getting through it perfectly. Sondheim’s beaming is all the proof you need.
@@4thbox I did just watch it, and her performance is excellent. Definitely the fastest one I've heard. However, I just don't agree with calling Jane Shaw 'mediocre'. She was a student getting a lesson (from Sondheim), yes; but she did amazingly in her own right.
I’m surprised not to see anyone mention her. She is hands down the best. No one else, even the seasoned broadway performers, had both the clarity of diction and spot-on rhythm that she had. Easily the best.
even if it was recorded, they have to film the scene and the performances don't have breaks unless there's a change in setting during the performance. Everything is choreographed a few days and of course recorded and then you have to perform on camera with the vocals put in later with editing. So Jayma still has to lip sync all the words without missing anything and there's no way she'd be able to lip sync everything if they cut all her gasps for air out to run it smoothly, so she definitely performed all of that without editing. It would just make things much easier if she performed it perfectly then did it again for the camera.
Literally Jayma’s whole thing is that she talks at the speed of light, hence the reason they had her do this song. I have no doubt in my mind that she actually did it that fast.
Julie Andrews had my favorite delivery. I feel like everyone else either focused on the words without the same nuance of emotion, or gave it the emotion but had to slow down the song as a result. She did both perfectly.
Madeline Kahn is a genius!!!!! Acting this and singing it live with long, long, long breath lines. So glad this was captured. Katie Finnerman was excellent. Jayma on Glee did a nice spin on it. But it wasn’t live. Julie was polite & adorable with amazing diction. Carol Burnett totally gets the comedy and deserves an honorable mention. Jane Shaw also get a nod for managing to sing
While Jayma's wasn't "live" she did still have to sing it (and then lip sinc it) up to speed! I've heard in an interview that she was basically hyperventilating while singing it! I honestly think she deserves more credit!! 😂😊
Madeline Kahn, the way she did so much with it by standing still and slowly going more and more insane always amazes me. That and something about the delivery of "I'm not well so I'm not getting married" always kills me
Lee GaryB Agreed. There is some overacting in most of the other clips, but Kahn’s deadpan delivery here wins out. The way she portrays someone straining to appear calm while internally losing it is the most effective version for me. The part where she lets the bouquet ribbon slip further and further down is genius.
Beth Howland's original recording of this on the cast album is hands down the best and fastest interpretation of this song. Fortunately, the cast recording of that show was filmed as part of a documentary and can be seen in other videos. No one comes close to her.
Maddaline kahn got the emotion down better than anyone else (I expected no less) But vocals wise Jane Shaw gave one of the perfect performances with the best energy among them.
ZeldaxShadow42 It’s like you’re intentionally missing the point. Her performance is decent enough sure, but you can’t ovompare performance which was not live, edited, probably sped up, and filtered to the other live performers who are doing this in one take. That’s my entire point. You like her performance? Oh well, but stop acting like she’s on the same playing field. This isn’t that hard to understand.
It's so hard to choose, Julie Andrews gives it with such clear diction, Carol Burnett gives off a comedic feeling. Madeline is the epitome of a bride with cold feet and Katie's performance's is just so complete.
Original: Beth Howland Fastest: Jayma Mays Slowest: Sophie Thompson Clearest: Julie Andrews Least Clear: Patti Lupone (sorry girl) Funniest: Katie Finneran Least Funny: Sophie Thompson Most Nervewracking: Jane Shaw 100% Least Nervewracking: Jayma Mays Idk why I did this
@@kalatran9583 Whole reason I put Jayma as least nervewracking is because it was the only one that wasn't live, so if she messed up, they could easily reshoot it. That isn't to discredit her at all, I actually prefer the Glee version of this song due to her speed while singing. On the other hand, I put Jane Shaw as most nervewracking because she was performing this right in front of Sondheim himself. Regardless, anything below "least clear" is more of my opinion than anything.
This is what they are saying: (First Part) Pardon me, is everybody here? Because if everybody's here I'd like to thank you all For coming to the wedding I'd appreciate you going even more I mean, you must have lots of better things to do And not a word of it to Paul Remember Paul? You know, the man I'm going to marry But I'm not, because I wouldn't ruin anyone As wonderful as he is Thank you all for the gifts and the flowers Thank you all, now it's back to the showers Don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today (Second Part) Listen everybody, look, I don't know what you're waiting for A wedding. What's a wedding? It's a prehistoric ritual Where everybody promises fidelity forever Which is maybe the most horrifying word I ever heard of Which is followed by a honeymoon, where suddenly he'll realize He's saddled with a nut, and want to kill me, which he should Thanks a bunch, but I'm not getting married Go have lunch, cause I'm not getting married You've been grand, but I'm not getting married Don't just stand there, I'm not getting married And don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today (Third Part) Listen everybody, I'm afraid you didn't hear Or do you want to see a crazy lady fall apart in front of you? It isn't only Paul who would be ruining his life You know, we'll both of us be losing our identities I telephoned my analyst about it, and he said to see him Monday But by Monday I'll be floating in the Hudson with the other garbage I'm not well, so I'm not getting married You've been swell, but I'm not getting married Clear the hall, 'cause I'm not getting married Thank you all, but I'm not getting married And don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today (Fourth Part) Look, I didn't want to have to tell you But I may be coming down with hepatitis And I think I'm gonna faint So if you want to watch me faint, I'll do it happily But wouldn't it be funnier to go and watch a funeral? So thank you for the twenty-seven dinner plates Thirty-seven butter knives Forty-seven paperweights Fifty-seven candle holders
Katie Finneran's is my favourite of these performances for the energy and physicality that she brings to this musical number. I absolutely love the moment she loses her breath at, "I'm not well..." The audience finishes, "...So I'm not getting married." Katie then recovers with, "You've been swell, but I'm not getting married." Priceless! Madeline Kahn is my second favourite because her portrayal is 50 shades of cray cray. She has an almost maniacal tone to her voice which is comical yet believable and fits the role perfectly. I also commend Janes Shaw’s rendition, which has the most clarity of diction, along with the added pressure of having Stephen Sondheim right behind her, scrutinising every line. Jayma Mays’ version is good and I enjoy it very much, however, because it was made for the screen I struggle to include this when comparing these performances.
Everyone is so good, but I think Madeline Kahn is my favorite. Her rendition is just so hilarious. Sophie Thompson is also up there because she really represents all the chaotic energy in this song.
I do think that sometimes the character of the song is dampened or lost when actresses focus purely on the spectacle of how speedy they are, rather than showing in their performance the actual underlying cause of how fast it is, which is the intense, overwhelming emotion verging on literal insanity. Katie, Julie, and Carol I think just have that varied cadence within the speed and also have lots of character in their singing- and Carol really does it much slower but I don't think it takes away at all from the rushed feeling because it is acted so well.
Agree - I just listened to the 2007 version, and you can't even tell WTH the character is saying, much less get the emotional content you're supposed to be getting.
Julie Andrews is my personal fav, you can hear every word, her diction is the best, and I really like how she shouts a bit while the “I’m not well” parts, it seems to add more emotion to it :)

Yea! Her expression gets more and more unhinged as she is catastrophizing her future. They all did great, but I like that quirk in her performance
They all did great but I completely bought how much Madeline Kahn just sounded like she was falling apart. Such an amazing talent!
I _completely_ agree!
They do.
Absolutely!!
props to jane forever she sang that almost perfectly with sondheim's eyes burning into her skull
that alone would cause the anxiety of the song to be real
What burning? He loved her!
He looked so happy! But he was fixated on her and the lyrics. Love it!
I think my cousin unintentionally sang this on her wedding day lol.
That's a riot! 😂🤣
🤣🤣
What happened after?
LMAO
I wish more people would talk about jayma’s performance. i know it was edited but like, she genuinely looked so anxious
Jayma portrays anxiety in such a real way. She looks like she’s genuinely about to have a panic attack. Madeline Kahn also does the anxiety element really well but I think the big difference is that Madeline maintains the comedy aspect while Jayma plays it straight.
I am the 444th like, mista is very disappointed in me
Ashy Kat period
i think her singing was too polished but overall she did an awesome job
She was panicking in the studio well recording it according to an interview
People: You can’t make “The Flight of the Bumblebees” a musical theatre song
Sondheim: Hold my beer
Madeline Kahn played the part so well. She seems genuinely terrified
For real. She did the best. I mean they all got it. But she GOT IT
Madeline Kahn just made me laugh for some reason, especially when she said "I'm not well." Her anxiety-ridden facial expressions were flawless. 😂😂😂
She was a great comedian, trained to be a professional opera singer, funniest actor (Young Frankenstein), and I miss her.
Julie Andrews is what I wish I looked like while having an anxiety attack.

They all win because this song is a damn mouthful lol
Ishipzalldathings Exactly
Katie Finneran and Madeline Kahn always make me laugh as you listen to their descent into madness
Julie Andrews (I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW SHE PERFORMED THE SONG) just nailed the articulation and speed while Jane Whittenshaw (A STUDENT AT THE TIME) just blew me away
A Girl I’m pretty sure they sped it up for her like electronically so she wasn’t actually singing that fast
@@emmal.5295 Yes, you can see how her lips aren't matched up to the lyrics at all. It's practically a bad lip reading. They did it for effect, but the effect is lost when it looks bad.
@@MysticVRB She most likely sang it that fast; obviously not on set but she's very talented like everyone on the show
@@AmaDesperado True, movie clip overdub from studio version. :)
Theh sped it up.
4:27 I love how Patti mouthed "Don't tell Paul" 😂
It really brings it to life...
Even if this were true, what does it have to do with that part being amazing?
M y D i a m o n d

Yep. About the top four I'd pick.
Yeah, Jane Shaw was brilliant. Even Sondheim looked like "How is she even doing this??"
Yep 👍 agree 💯
Kahn's constant quaver at the smallest note is pure excellence.
Agreed here but my 4th place is Thompson. She was funny to me.
Madeline Kahn has that desperate, slightly crazed quality to her voice that is perfect for this song.
Extra props to Jane Shaw though as she is performing IN FRONT OF SONDHEIM
I'm sorry but what is it with Sondheim?
HE MAN he wrote it and a bunch of other incredible musicals
Stop This shes my favorite for sure
Her name is actually Jane Whittenshaw. I agree, she’s the best and how scary having to do it in front of Stephen Sondheim himself!
To do it in front of Sondheim..
And with Sondheim both astonished and speechless. Hats off to her! she wins!!!
Carol Burnett may not be the fastest but her delivery is probably my favorite. It’s just so stressed and comedic lol
Absolutelyyyy
Yeah I was sad because so few people here in the comments are talking about her.
Her delivery was amazing and if you don't have the direct comparison like this video it is still incredibly fast and I think it helps the song to be a tiny bit slower, so you can actually understand what they say.
She does “crazy lady” voice so well it’s almost shocking
She was a treasure.
Carol Burnett’s presence is just amazing and funny no matter what she’s doing!
Jayma sings so fast but its understandable and very nice the way she sung it. It's perfect for her character on Glee (Emma) because shes a very anxious person
Edit: my phone auto corrected Jayma to Jayne sorry!
Mack Ade agreed!!!

After having to do an all-Sondheim fundraiser, I agree that he just started writing for the lulz and to make his pieces as impossible as he could.
Julie is a goddess damn what range and the last girl was great too but Madeline Kahn is always the funniest to me her facial expressions and descent into insanity gets me every time.
Moira Brown as she drops the flowers slowly as she sings i just laughed out loud
Ocker Films right? It’s gold
Same!!! Totally agree!
Madeline Kahn has some of the best articulation, and evokes the feeling of the song in almost perfect stillness.
Madeline Kahn’s voice in my opinion matches the feeling of the song the best
No one can ever beat Julie Andrews in enunciation, I only understood the "he's gonna realize he married a nut" line when she sang it.
"and it's folloed by a honeymoon where suddenly he'll realise he's saddled with a nut and want to kill me which he should" is the actual line i think
@Liza George -
* Julie Andrews did muff lines, but I'm sure that happened on occasion to all the singers who attempted this song. Was this after Andrews started to have trouble with her voice? She enunciated, but the notes were boggy at times.
* Beth Howland seemed to pick up the pace as the song went on, but she lost clarity.
* I think Madeline Kahn best expressed an inner anxiety attack the best.
Jane Shaw nailed EVERY beat, she has an amazing breathing technique, never had to pause unexpectedly in the middle of a phrase or word
Madeline Kahn!!! She adds genius to all of the properties of Andrews..
While singing it in front of SONDHEIM, no less.
So where is Jane Shaw today? Why is she not starring in a show? I searched for “Jane Shaw, Broadway” here and at the IBDB, and nothing came up.

Ugh, Julie Andrews is such a gift to the world. What a queen. Carol Burnett doesn't have the best voice but her acting was amazing.
Julie Andrews is a GODDESS. But I frickin love Glee and I loved Jayma's version when i saw that episode
Kacey Hamsher Jayma's version was sped up later so I bet it would be a different story had she sung live...still a great version
Kacey Hamsher I TOTALY AGREE
Kacey Hamsher I know but she didn't truly sing it that fast

DeadlyWhispers 1 and 2?
I have to give it up to Jane Shaw. I’d be terrified to do that song with Sondheim watching me right there. She did a great job too.
No kidding. He's just... staring. I mean, talk about pressure.
And the only advice he gave her was to step forward.
I’d say for sure she did it best. I mean Glee did it best, but it’s pre-recorded. Jane Shaw hit all the beats and notes, didn’t have to revert shouting. Nailed it, through and through. Clear winner here.
Jane Shaw doing this in front of Sondheim, I’d cry 😭 🤚

9:50 There must be nothing greater in the world than having THE Stephen Sondheim gleaming behind you.

My personal favorites are Julie Andrews and Madeline Kahn. Jane Shaw of course gets special mention for impressing Sondheim himself
I know everyone has said Julie Andrews, but here truly is perfect. She kept brilliant speed and didn't let her breath falter her performance. She also used a lot of emotion when she sang and I really felt was she was singing.
I disagree, she spoke on beat but the part is supposed to be sung like Shaw did.
Dillon O'Neill it's more interesting the way Julie did it.
That and she performed it in front of Sondheim himself… and he just had great comments for her
Sad that there isn't a live performance with jayma. It's really hard to compare when hers is a studio version and I think it was sped up.
Yeah I think they speed it some parts a little to give a more dramatic effect
Mister Golightly jayma has stated in interviews that it wasn’t sped up, it was in real-time!
even if it was recorded, they have to film the scene and the performances don't have breaks unless there's a change in setting during the performance.
I could believe it isn't sped-up, however I'm sure it isn't all in one take. Of course, they're all very impressive.
Madeline Kahn for the facial expressions and acting alone, but Shaw for the pure talent
Meanwhile i lose my breath when i get of my couch
So Hyang And Highnotes Your videos are really good btw! So Hyang is amazing

Julie Andrews had my favorite delivery. I feel like everyone else either focused on the words without the same nuance of emotion, or gave it the emotion but had to slow down the song as a result. She did both perfectly.
I know this is an old video but Darren Criss recently performed this song and I think he did a good job.
Sir Booty Trumpet The Wise I think he did a lot better than most of these woman to be honest
Right?! This is Darren Cris Erasure
The 57 MOTHERFUCKERS
I just came here because of it...is amazing
Darren Criss definitely sang this the best like no one can compare ❤️😂
That and something about the delivery of "I'm not well so I'm not getting married" always kills me
She was a professionally-trained opera singer. I miss her. She was so funny, then died so young.
Maddaline kahn got the emotion down better than anyone else (I expected no less)
But vocals wise Jane Shaw gave one of the perfect performances with the best energy among them.
Carol Burnett was probably the best actor in the list, even though Julie Andrews was probably the best singer.
Jayma rocked it..but there was likely a decent amount of editing. It was TV afterall.
Alida Bailey “decent” pretty much means she couldn’t do it live. Fuck her.
“Couldn’t do it live” dude she’s on a show, you expect the show to be live? She said it wasn’t sped up, get over yourself.
ZeldaxShadow42
It’s like you’re intentionally missing the point.
Because people thought it was sped up she also did it live......
I actually have been able to do it that fast (not as in key but decent) so it’s possible
It's so hard to choose, Julie Andrews gives it with such clear diction, Carol Burnett gives off a comedic feeling. Madeline is the epitome of a bride with cold feet and Katie's performance's is just so complete.

Game Brain what do u mean jayma was rly nerve racking
@@kalatran9583 Whole reason I put Jayma as least nervewracking is because it was the only one that wasn't live, so if she messed up, they could easily reshoot it. That isn't to discredit her at all, I actually prefer the Glee version of this song due to her speed while singing. On the other hand, I put Jane Shaw as most nervewracking because she was performing this right in front of Sondheim himself. Regardless, anything below "least clear" is more of my opinion than anything.

This is what they are saying:
(First Part)
Pardon me, is everybody here?
Because if everybody's here
I'd like to thank you all
For coming to the wedding
I'd appreciate you going even more
I mean, you must have lots of better things to do
And not a word of it to Paul
Remember Paul? You know, the man I'm going to marry
But I'm not, because I wouldn't ruin anyone
As wonderful as he is
Thank you all for the gifts and the flowers
Thank you all, now it's back to the showers
Don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today
(Second Part)
Listen everybody, look, I don't know what you're waiting for
A wedding. What's a wedding? It's a prehistoric ritual
Where everybody promises fidelity forever
Which is maybe the most horrifying word I ever heard of
Which is followed by a honeymoon, where suddenly he'll realize
He's saddled with a nut, and want to kill me, which he should
Thanks a bunch, but I'm not getting married
Go have lunch, cause I'm not getting married
You've been grand, but I'm not getting married
Don't just stand there, I'm not getting married
And don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today
(Third Part)
Listen everybody, I'm afraid you didn't hear
Or do you want to see a crazy lady fall apart in front of you?
It isn't only Paul who would be ruining his life
You know, we'll both of us be losing our identities
I telephoned my analyst about it, and he said to see him Monday
But by Monday I'll be floating in the Hudson with the other garbage
I'm not well, so I'm not getting married
You've been swell, but I'm not getting married
Clear the hall, 'cause I'm not getting married
Thank you all, but I'm not getting married
And don't tell Paul, but I'm not getting married today
(Fourth Part)
Look, I didn't want to have to tell you
But I may be coming down with hepatitis
And I think I'm gonna faint
So if you want to watch me faint, I'll do it happily
But wouldn't it be funnier to go and watch a funeral?

Forty-seven paperweights
Fifty-seven candle holders

Not only was Julie Andrews's diction perfect, she still put inflection and emotion in it
Nailed it. She had done all of the parts and showed different 3 roles to audience… Master.
Katie Finneran's is my favourite of these performances for the energy and physicality that she brings to this musical number. I absolutely love the moment she loses her breath at, "I'm not well..."
The audience finishes, "...So I'm not getting married."
Katie then recovers with, "You've been swell, but I'm not getting married." Priceless!
I just fall apart at Sondheim's reaction to Jane singing in the final clip. I lose my damn mind
Is that who it is? I was wondering!
Jane killed, so melodious and smooth but retaining the crazy feel
I dunno why but I want to see Daveed Diggs singing this 😂😂😂

@@xdd560 yes!
The look of pride on Sondheim's face at that trio of students melts my heart 😭
Everyone is so good, but I think Madeline Kahn is my favorite. Her rendition is just so hilarious. Sophie Thompson is also up there because she really represents all the chaotic energy in this song.
I second every single word of this! Those are my picks.
I agree with you. I really wish they had shown performances from actual show.
I paused the video so "I" can breath.
Julie Andrews is my personal fav, you can hear every word, her diction is the best, and I really like how she shouts a bit while the “I’m not well” parts, it seems to add more emotion to it :)
