I spent many years driving down to Worthing over that roundabout and it was 2 lanes onto the roundabout and 2 lanes off it where there is now one, and yes, there was plenty going in both lanes and yes, it was also prone to flooding.
My Dad (who was a firefighter) used to tell me the most dangerous junction in Sussex was Bolney Crossroads where the A272 crossed the A23. It is now grade separated with the A272 passing under the A23.
Well he would know! I have a lot of respect for the people who have to attend these incidents. I actively don’t look if I come across an accident. You can’t unsee things.
That road doesn't appear to have been reduced from dual carriageway to single carriageway. What saw was a dual carriageway reduced from two lane to single lane!
The recent cycle path put in on the left hand side of your video has also improved safety a great deal. It was quite controversial because of the cost but it's proved very effective in taking bikes (and horses!) off the road. There are still complaints about the central verge not being cut down on a more regular basis. I'm all for allowing verges to grow wild in order to support insects but I have to admit it can be dangerous crossing that road between the Black Horse pub and the garden centre during the summer months.
I agree. The council saw they could get away with not doing basic maintenance and how much money they could save in 2020, and have never gone back. Like you I like to see rewinding, because it makes driving unsafe it’s different. No wonder everyone is buying SUV’s it’s the only way to see over the weeds !

Wow, can’t imagine that being a crossroads now with the amount of traffic in all directions coming off and onto the A23 there
