First Comedian: I was in the immigration line, there were 2 other people before me, First was British, Second was American, and I was the third so I listened. First Comedian: When the British came up the immigration officer asked: "Will you stay here for long sir?" The American replied: "I'm afraid not". As expected, Miko pulled the Arnold Schwarzenegger move from the airport scene in Total Recall. "Are you carrying any fruits or vegetables?" "Two weeks." I can only assume she was also wearing an animatronic head. As she said, she is a Hollywood star.

I have been to Japan four times. There is a separate line for Japanese citizens "returning to their homeland" from foreign visitors at the immigration area of both Narita and Haneda Airports in Tokyo. I cannot say if the same is true for other Japanese airports with international passengers flight services like Kansai Airport in Osaka, Chubu Centrair Airport near Nagoya, Fukuoka Airport, etc. I also know that at JFK Airport, which is in New York City, there is a separate line for American citizens and Canadian visitors at the cramped immigration area in Terminal 7. When I returned from my trip from Singapore in late 2022, there was no such line at Newark Liberty International Airport (the closest airport with intercontinental services to Manhattan).
Also I've found they either speak English, will read off an English script, or point to a sign in English at immigration. English is the lingua franca so it works in our favor when going to foreign countries, usually. Meanwhile Japanese is really only spoken in Japan... So yeah no wonder US customs officers don't speak it. But I'd imagine LAX would have a few translators if they really needed one.
