It's £550 in the UK, and well worth the extra cost. It's only £171 more than the standard SPR777 and for that you get a sapphire crystal with cyclops, ceramic bezel insert, a metal bracelet and a new textured dial. I don't really understand the negativity it's getting. It has to be said though, I too was sceptical about the cyclops until I saw this video but I think Bruce's photography has won me over.
Just bought a 2 month old one for 50% of the retail the seller had only wore it once when he tried it on in the Shop, it is a beautiful watch and I am really pleased.
Who's complaining? Now, finally Seiko gives us what the microbrands give us, sapphire, ceramic, and of course a small premium because you're getting the Seiko brand name and not an unknown. The Seiko name means something and has value.
Great video, thanks Bruce. Saw this a few months back at an AD in Sydney for $499 AUD, last one in store and grabbed it. It's the cheapest watch I've ever bought, and probably the current favourite in my collection. It's comfortable, handsome and rugged., and at half the RRP it's value for money is unmatched.
This watch is a big hit for me man!!! Dont give too crap about the bracelet, so long it looks decent on my wrist! Its the watch that counts! I don't look at the crown when the watch is on my wrist! This doesn't make the watch look cheap is any way for me! Just love the ceramic and the candy bar! £530, can't go wrong!
Bruce, great video as always. I love this new design of the turtle - I actually think it's an upgrade visually and like the cyclops. But that price IS excessive. For a stamped clasp and a 4r movement, that's unacceptable. You asked towards the end about what you could get for $800 - the Triton is a better watch for 300-350 Grey market. If seiko put in a 6r movement or had a great bracelet, I could tolerate the price. As it is, not for me. I too love Seikos, and recently snagged a Srpb67j1 at a great deal, so I don't want to come across as hater, but the price rises lately are infuriating.
Cool video Bruce 👍 My Seiko AD just got these in...they’re legit. Much better pricing in North America- California, OC. The waffle dial is very nice in IRL and the brushed hands & hour markers are done very well on the green & black versions. The Great White has the polished hands & hour markers. IMO Seiko did a great job on these King Turtles 🍻
Bought the green one recently. its a great watch. has amazing weight, love the hacking and hand winding compared to my old turtle the 6902 but i noticed the cyclops is slightly misaligned... but i think i can have that fixed, but i still love it. If u wanna get this watch fly to asia and but it cause i got mine brand new for $400 USD. I noticed its twice the price in the states.
They are pretty crazy asking for that kind of money. Spend a little bit more and get a Sinn, Oris, Tag. Or spend a lot less and just get a regular Turtle which is 90% of the watch that this is.
My Seikos get much more wrist time vs my oris/tags and tags are mediocre at best in quality and horrible at their rrp. My Balls, Fortis, B&M, ML, Tudors crap on Tags at same rrp from case, crystal, finishing. Heuer is a different story however.
People complained about SRPD01K dawn grey edition being too expensive for a turtle. Now you get objectively 100$ worth of upgrades (if modding your own), but the watch costs 200$+ (50%) more. I personally think it does not compute.
John Destroyer it doesn’t compute. Unless you just have to have a Seiko there are better options. At the new price point, and it is a new price point not supported by the updates, the watch is competing against a different set of watches.
@@BruceWilliams The same was the case with the last turtle editions, which I have two of. There were better bangforbuck options, but I love Seiko since my father's watch was the same brand. Now they are even more expensive and I honestly cannot find an excuse to buy another one, although I like the new editions. I am well aware I can afford the new one too, but for that price point I would rather consider other watch types and manufacturers.
Bruce it’s good to see that you are transparent that this is a paid promotion . Of course this then totally negates impartiality, In essence it’s an advertisement. For this to be shipped to the uk with taxes and import duty it would be nudging 1200 US dollars this is ridiculous. It’s time everyone started to speak out about how Seiko are taking people for fools .
Just got a Save The Ocean ( SRPE39K1 ) the other day - my first watch of the more expensive kind (in my world that is). 800 USD? I can't speak for the JDM market, but AD's like Mimo's have these going for 595 USD, with additional discounts available (bringing it down to mid 400 USD).
Today I received the SBDY047 as an early Valentines' gift. The list price was 65,000 JPY. I have always wanted a watch with kanji day and I'm very happy with this one.
I definitely do not recommend paying full retail for this. If you are in the USA, check for sales from Macy's. I got mine for $425 earlier this month and probably wouldn't pay any more than that.
Seiko is losing their minds with those prices! I see too many options at the Sub 1000 dollar level to justify asking 800+ for a turtle. To each their own but geez that's a tall order to ask from a consumer. At the very most it should be 650 retail.
@Jee Vang Trust me I wanted to say $400 and with $650 retail that's where it would land on the grey market. That was my reasoning for the figure. Due to marketability they have to push it upward to separate it from the standard version. I also think the SKX should be no more than $250. Movement on the thing is just not accurate and by default lands it in the $250 category.
@Tom The Fish I think GS is also not worth what they are asking. 2018 pricing seemed to be okay but now they've made a mad dash in price increases. If I'm not mistake. A new CEO took over and is they've made a bunch of "changes" to attempt to revive brand placement and recognition. Good luck with that. I continue to argue that Omega is pound for pound the best value in the mainstream segment. This is why I own the brand.
I know people are crappin all over this new release, but aside from the tuna, the turtle is my favorite Seiko.... and good lord does the green dial version look awesome!! ALMOST makes me wanna sell my SRP775 and get that one! Great video Bruce! I love the production quality of your content! Stay blessed my friend.
You know I’ve been agonising over getting a discontinued 775 Which I love or this. The 775 can be found for £330 here in the UK on eBay. I’ve just seen this for £430. It really makes sense getting this doesn’t it. It really is the next level up. The 775 feels a little close to the SKX 007 and 009 I already have. This feels like something else entirely. An investment.
BTW those markers aren't really applied, they are part of the dial mold. The dial is made of that silvery metal, stamped such that the indices are the highest "peaks". Then the dial is coated black, then a flat grinder is used to brush off the tops of the indices, resulting in a uniformly vertical brushing. Lastly, printing is applied, and lume is squished into the appropriate depressions.
It's funny to me; after having bought four Seiko watches at an average of $1,000 each... this feels like a bargain to me now. :P I think this would look nice with a Beads of Rice bracelet.
What is functionally wrong with a stamped clasp? All you internet people usually say is, "iT fEeLs cHeAp". What does cheap actually *mean*? I have Seikos with stamped clasps and they are bulkier and less comfortable. The forged clasp, being thicker, sticks out further from the clasp and digs into the wrist. Realize to argue about value things that are functional are more important than things that are arbitrary.
@@a_single_white_female I agree. Stamped clasp is by far more comfortable vs. Standard off the shelf milled clasp ..only clasp that is better is those milled, smoothed and contoured which usually comes on $10k+ watches. I actually like my jingly jujbilee on my vintage Rolex over my newer models.
@@a_single_white_female I don't mind stamped clasp either but in my experience the comfortable milled clasp can easily be done. The milled clasp on my Steinhart 39mm is the most comfortable and the quality is also amazing. It's not bulky at all like the clasp on my MM300.
That is 3x+ more than I spent on PADI...admittedly I am planning to get a sapphire crystal and bezel insert. I am sure they will come down in price and be more comparable in price. I love the kanji date as well. This new Turtle is really cool. Thank you for a great review Bruce :)
The thing that made me stop buying Seikos is the bracelets / clasps. They need to step up their game on that part. I'm a huge fan of Seiko, I have an SKX and Tuna and a few other models that I won't ever sell. But, I find it hard to pull the trigger on Seiko anymore now that I've gotten into Oris. The bracelet quality on the Aquis is just incredible and makes it hard to go back to the feel of the Seikos.
In the 1980's grandparents used to say that the Japanese just copied European designs. 40 yrs later Seiko puts a Royal Oak style facia and a Rolex-esk date magnifier on the cristal of its iconic Turtle... Looks good but a missed opportunity IMO.
At this price, the movement should have been upgraded to 6R35 with 70-hour power reserve like the new, upgraded Sumo. At least this upgrade of movement will be comparable to the new Sumo in terms of price and specifications and also justifies the huge price difference between this King Turtle and the standard Turtle. So what this Turtle uses ceramic bezel? Does it cost Seiko a tonne of money? It's negligible with economy of scale.
I don't think they want this new turtle to over shadow the new sumo. The problem is that Seiko is releasing too many models these days. It's the same story with the skx. If they upgraded it the right way, it would outsell the mini turtle. They should have never released the mini turtle.
Very nice looking watch from afar because of the price. No way in hell i'd pay that much for those upgrades. Seiko seems to be going in the wrong direction :/ Thanks for the videos though bud. Appreciate the content but dissapointed in seiko
I like my green King Turtle. It is beautiful. My only disappointment is that it keeps time at -20 sec/day . I know it is w/i Seiko margins for their 4R36 movements.
Sapphire crystal, £35, ceramic insert £10 for my SKX007, 40 minutes playing around.......fair enough, no pressure test, but I’m happy. This looks good for a turtle, but I’ve never been a fan of the cushion case. Good video.
Great watch . Overpriced... I have Seiko 5 watches and I’m happy with the value ... but the inflated prices in their divers keeps me away. Maybe I’m just poor folk but I feel this watch should have been in the 500 dollar mark... I just bought a Zelos and I can’t help but feel that Seiko is just money hungry when I compare the features for the money you spend ... again I love this watch and I wish I had one ... but I can’t pay that it feels like Robbery
May grab me a non kanji model they can already be had for around the 450 dollar mark from asia and at this price its about similar or lower than some of the LE turtles previously released but with upgrades
Just got mine a few days ago, international version. Your review is spot on. Didn’t pay premium, but love this watch. I did replace the strap to an Uncle Seiko GL803 rubber strap since I think that makes it a true Turtle to me. This is simply a Seiko Submariner to me . Awesome review
I sometimes think we hobby watch collectors are spoiled, the way we complain about new releases or updated versions having too high a price. I think a $300 differential is useful for showing how much value Seiko sees sapphire and ceramic bezels.
I also had the watch in front of the lens and wrote a cool review on the blog. However, I like your video review extremely well! Also very much info. Follow you now! 👍🏻👍🏻
i dont know if it was mentioned here but if you look at 1:45 at the number 5 on the datewheel it looks totally uneven, like handpainted? a machine print cant be that uneven. interesting is also how they do the printing on the dial, cause the dial is actually textured exactly to the printed letters. just my few cents, nice review as always bruce 👍
I have this watch and it’s really nice except that it runs -10” per day and I what I like most about a watch is it’s accuracy. I have Cartier Santos and in looks is great but I will never love it more than My couple of Omegas that run a couple seconds off in a whole week.
Although I’m sure the JDM version maybe a little nicer for 800$ you could buy 2 global release king turtles for that price I’ll take my chances with Mis-alignment for half the price just picked up the srpe03 for around $380 at that price the watch is truly a bargain not worth double for made in Japan IMO
And you still get a pressed clasp! Also, magnification on a turtle? If you cant read the turtle day/date without magnification then they might as well have put it in braille.
Used to have a Ninja Turtle, that a regret for selling, and now I have the King Turtle (exactlly the same as the video, except mine is global, not JDM) and I just can say I love it. I really do. It looks so better than a regular Turtle. I hope they make a Padi King and a Great White Shark King Editions in the future. I would add into my small collection for shure.
Bruce your maths are way off Buddy. You said quite rightly we could pick up previous gen turtles for around 300 or under Then you said around 200 to mod it Now total is 500. How is that comparable to the 800 for the new model ? It isnt. Seikos new pricing strategy just Sucks Buddy dont go making excuses for them. Anyway killer review as always thanks for the continuing great content
Great review as always, Bruce. I really like it. I'm not averse to Seiko trying to move themselves up market either, good for them, so long as the products truly reflect it. Love that bezel, I hate the soft cheap look of the knurling on regular turtles and skx's. By sharpening that this watch already looks higher quality. Sapphire is a great upgrade. The Cyclops is my only reservation, so it is interesting that you appreciate it with watch in the metal. This watch is begging to be put on an Uncle Seiko rubber strap with that dial. Really like this one.
I love Seiko dive Solar Dive watches with day date. Anythng else is a waste of money. My last one ran for 9 years and never stopped till s few weeks ago.
Nice work, Bruce! LIW Islander Turtle clones are $299 with nylon strap. No cyclops, luminous ceramic bezel. Dial is not as nice. Add $100 for a bracelet. The dial alone might be worth the extra $400, for the watch enthusiast.
Please don't ruin the aesthetic with the signed crown on these watches. They were designed that way in the 70s, enough with the prospex logo madness on the dial.
every collection needs a seiko turtle. I love mine got it on a rubber diver strap . Only wish grand Seik would take on that Iconic shape. as far as the movement is concerned I have no issues with the 4r it's a work horse. And the bracelet (me rolling my eyes ) do we need to keep beating a dead horse ,it works with solid end links ,stop comparing it to a 12k rolex bracelet
Awesome 😎 video Bruce . Personally I do think 🤔 it’s worth the price premium and although the Sumo is my favorite Seiko watch this new Turtle 🐢 is definitely make me think maybe this is a more desirable watch . The new upgrades without having to mod it to me makes it worth the price increase 👍🏻
Why not use a better movement (the new 6R35), signed crown, better bracelet and better finish on the polishing and on the brushing? With all these improvements mentioned, even with a price tage of 950 USD, the King Turtle would be attractive to many buyers considering the new in-house movement and that the watch is made in Japan! We would pretty much get a high end piece for under 1000 USD. There will always be critics but with these upgrade mentioned, it would cut down many critics! Still a nice watch though!
I can’t wait! I got the green variant. Just shipped!! I have to say this Japan online store is SLOW AS FUCK. I ordered on the 2nd and this thing is still in Japan. I won’t order from Him again. I am patient but i do not like a watch being on trucks and handed over all over for days on end... that’s not cool. Seiya is just as good and has the product delivered within 3 days
Everything you described as a new feature could have $25 Quartz movement, so what makes this movement worth paying for as the facade is just that...surely I can't be the only person interested in what makes the watch tick.
Same movement as the turtle. Almost double the price for just a sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel. And the cyclops looks like an old lady’s reading glasses. nOpe

When you start losing your vision in your late 40's, the cyclops rocks! Never thought I'd say that............$469-500 online.
In the 1980's grandparents used to say that the Japanese just copied European designs. 40 yrs later Seiko puts a Royal Oak style facia and a Rolex-esk date magnifier on the cristal of its iconic Turtle... Looks good but a missed opportunity IMO.
Very valid points.
Love this release. Really cool looking turtle. A nice pickup Bruce. Cheers.
Love the seconds hand movement on d Grand Seiko 👌
Seiko is Omega and Rolex rolled up in one. Make a ton of models, and raise the price with no to little change, to have the Seiko name.
Very nice looking watch from afar because of the price. No way in hell i'd pay that much for those upgrades. Seiko seems to be going in the wrong direction :/ Thanks for the videos though bud. Appreciate the content but dissapointed in seiko
Don't think we will see the days of 250 dollar pro seikos again
No milled clasp for $800? Citizen night hawk a $200 watch has a milled clasp.
Wait a few months friend, these watches will go for a huge discount and be amazing value lol
Switch to Islander. Same specs (sapphire, lumed ceramic bezel), same turtle case, costs 300 to 350.
King Turtle is going for ~$400 these days. As usual you neckbeards overreact to MSRP pries at launch.
Thank you! Great work! Your video and recommendations were helpful with me deciding on a future purchase. I appreciate what you did.
For just $300. you can get a similar watch with ALL the premium features in Marc's Islander Watch. Eff you Seiko!!!
not sure about the ceramic bezel, it looks cheap compared to the textured bezels of the great white etc
I like both
I sometimes think we hobby watch collectors are spoiled, the way we complain about new releases or updated versions having too high a price. I think a $300 differential is useful for showing how much value Seiko sees sapphire and ceramic bezels.
I also had the watch in front of the lens and wrote a cool review on the blog. However, I like your video review extremely well! Also very much info. Follow you now! 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice watch. I like it. Something about Japan that I just love. Great job as always Bruce! Love your channel!
Awesome watch! But yet another Seiko priced above 500 bucks, wich I can´t afford :-( WHY Seiko? It sucks being poor (in terms of wristwatch budget).
i dont know if it was mentioned here but if you look at 1:45 at the number 5 on the datewheel it looks totally uneven, like handpainted? a machine print cant be that uneven. interesting is also how they do the printing on the dial, cause the dial is actually textured exactly to the printed letters. just my few cents, nice review as always bruce 👍
The 051 is a better buy at this price point. That strap is poor for an $800 Watch. That said it's a nice turtle.
And you still get a pressed clasp! Also, magnification on a turtle? If you cant read the turtle day/date without magnification then they might as well have put it in braille.
¡¡Seiko mi reloj favorito!!
¡¡Bravo por Seiko!!
The textured dial looks great, the sapphire is OK but a bit excessive, however the cyclops is the deal-breaker for me.
You said quite rightly we could pick up previous gen turtles for around 300 or under
Then you said around 200 to mod it
Now total is 500. How is that comparable to the 800 for the new model ? It isnt. Seikos new pricing strategy just Sucks Buddy dont go making excuses for them.
Anyway killer review as always thanks for the continuing great content
Japan-onlinestore prices are too high, really high.Anyway, king turtle is amazing and I just ordered the green one 👌
You pay for the best
That’s true. I rather pay another 100 than get some bezel that is halfway misaligned!
Good meme, should make King Seiko versions for all of their watches, will sell
I love Seiko dive Solar Dive watches with day date. Anythng else is a waste of money. My last one ran for 9 years and never stopped till s few weeks ago.
Nice work, Bruce! LIW Islander Turtle clones are $299 with nylon strap. No cyclops, luminous ceramic bezel. Dial is not as nice. Add $100 for a bracelet. The dial alone might be worth the extra $400, for the watch enthusiast.
I can't get on board with them. Too much of a clone. I'm surprised Seiko hasn't pulled thier distributorship with Marc
Great review, top quality content. Really digging this watch 👍
This one screams for an uncle seiko waffle strap and engraved crown
Please don't ruin the aesthetic with the signed crown on these watches. They were designed that way in the 70s, enough with the prospex logo madness on the dial.
Juz bought one for USD603 today. Love the black waffle, the kanji days (I’m into all things Japanese), and the turtle case :)
This watch is actually priced a bit cheaper here in Indonesia, around $340
Dang it Bruce. I finally get a Seiko and now you have me looking at another one that’s almost the exact same. 😂
lol
every collection needs a seiko turtle.
Cyclops on a Rolex, yes. Even bigger Cyclops on a Seiko, no.
agreed
Casio is the new Seiko imho, in terms of value for $$. Or Orient. Or Grand Seiko if you really want shades of perfection.
Save just a little more and get the new CW Elite 1000. Looks an incredible watch for the money.
Still a nice watch though!
just handled all 3 and the blue and green are even better imo
Time to go to Zelos
I'll be reviewing one soon!
Want it! I just wish they would upgrade those awful stamped clasps.
I’m kinda listing on the blue one...get a turtle a crystal, a dial, a bezel, an insert....you would be in it for the price of one of these.
I can’t wait! I got the green variant. Just shipped!!
I have to say this Japan online store is SLOW AS FUCK. I ordered on the 2nd and this thing is still in Japan. I won’t order from
Him again.
Into music is harmonious way to have fun
Bruce, just to be clear, this video was sponsored and you were paid. Anyway, great job!
100 percent transparent- I was offered a discount. I still paid for it, but got a little off. I consider that paid promotion.
Bruce Williams I truly meant no offensive Bruce. Got my first Seiko auto in 1973.
@@jamesdonabed7995 I'm not offended at all. I have no problem with honest paid promotion. :)
Same movement as the turtle. Almost double the price for just a sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel. And the cyclops looks like an old lady’s reading glasses. nOpe
My next watch will be a Seiko Turtle but not this one, it looks great though...
I will stick with my Dawn Grey at that price.
What do you guys think the USA market value is now for pre-owned SBDY049 pre-owned with light wear and misaligned bezel?
