I wonder what this thing is actually doing. Sony has been so weird this generation, the PS5 ecosystem is such a walled garden, no forward compatibility for PS4, PC titles will only use the advanced haptics with a DualSense if you're using the native API (i.e. no advanced haptics through Steam configuration), etc. I originally thought this was just a closed ecosystem between the API and the DualSense controller itself, which was why there weren't many third party controllers, though I haven't exactly seen what microcontrollers third party offerings are using; and previously I wouldn't have been surprised if Sony was forcing third parties to use the DualSense's microcontroller for compatibility reasons. But now this breaks that logic, so now I'm wonder what's actually going on with all of the walled garden bullshit, and now I'm considering the idea that it might just be the DS4's API with a secondary API that adds in the advanced haptics, which is literally what the DualSense is as the advanced haptics are the only actual update over a DS4, which is how you get game compatibility on the PS5, yet if those advanced haptics aren't seen the system sees it as a DS4 controller rather than a DualSense controller, so now there's an additional circuit that more or less spoofs the advanced haptics so that the controller is seen as a DualSense; though at the same time, why are API translators (like the Brook sticks, Mayflash Magic sticks, etc.) having such a rough time with compatibility, which would imply spoofing the advanced haptics isn't the solution though to be fair a dual-API would throw off any API translation that doesn't throw in the secondary API, which may also be what throws off Steam and its API and configurator, which would enforce the walled garden of how Sony has made things. I don't even know if anyone has done a deep dive on what the hell Sony has done, I would absolutely hate it if this dual-API idea is actually what's causing so many issues with compatibility, it's so simple yet seemingly so hard to work around.
