2004-2007 were my favorite years. 11 year old me thought NHL 2001 looked so amazing when I first got it home...it's fun now to see how it actually looked. It was my first NHL game...I've owned every one since. Great video, really enjoyed it.
I remember playing nhl 98 when I was like 5 years old back in '99 and legit feeling like I was actually in the game playing it, seemed so realistic , ea really got the small details down to point back then...for example on whistles they'd show stats, before game starts they'd do the anthem and show a warm-up..made it feel so realistic, nowadays it doesn't feel the same
Thank you for posting this. It's truly amazings to see how the game has change over time. Such a jump from '97 to '98. This is a chunk of my childhood. Such fond memories of the NHL games, and many other games I've played as well
NHL 2001 Demo on PC is the first game of the series I've ever played when I was 8 years old, back in late 2000. Then found NHL 2002 and absolutely fell in love with it. I really mean "absolutely". Played it for 4 years until NHL 06 got released, and played it a lot as well. I started to get really good and then played NHL 08 and 09 in the online lobby, racking amazing stats against really good players (still remember most of the usernames of most players, like "statsman"). All on PC. Those were such fond memories and great times in my childhood... I had switch on console by the time NHL12 got released, and fell in love with NHL13. Stopped playing since then... I plan on buying a PS4 and the upcoming NHL17 on release day. Watching the graphical evolution is bittersweet for the eyes, but is it worth it to invest all that money as far as the gameplay is concerned? I thought NHL13 had the best gameplay of all the games; how much has it changed - positively and negatively - since? Thanks for the video. It definitely brought me back great feelings.
Gameplay has actually been kind of worse since they jumped to current gen. Hopefully NHL 17 is a huge improvement. 15 was an embarrassment for EA and the only thing better in 16 was EASHL
Your story is awesome. It's great growing up with games, eh? I love seeing old games and thinking about how I grew up with them. You should get NHL 17, it's awesome. Awesome new gameplay, more cellys, more customizations, it's awesome. Thanks you for sharing this :)
Oh my god, it looks like exactly my childhood with little differences (I played from NHL04 on Gamecube to NHL14 on Xbox360). Great memories playing this series, I still remember songs that were in the games 10 years ago (07 and 09 were the best soundtracks to me). I started to be really good when NHL11 came out, playing against top100 players online and winning a lot of games. I reached my top on NHL14 and I will always remember that game I played with my best friend (he was as good as me at the time) against a guy named "Sauce'N'Flow" who was ranked like 5th in the world, and we found a way to beat him, it's just an unforgettable memory! And then NHL15 came out on current gen..... To me, it was the worst hockey game ever made. I sold my copy in November, I was so furious of how EA made a game so bad, I mean, the celebrations are good, graphics are improved, people the crowd are very realistic, but the GAMEPLAY was so bad.... I give EA a last chance with NHL16 and even with the adding of more game modes, the game was still very bad. I don't recommend you to buy NHL17 on September, especially if you don't have a PS4 and you think of buying one just to play the game. It's pathetic how they missed their shot with the current gen. I'm 25 now, my childhood is over, and it's time for me to move on.
nhl 99, nhl 04, and nhl 17 are some kind of milestones for this franchise, they show the biggest improvements compared to the previous versions. But i used to love playing nhl 06 with Atlanta Thrashers, they were my favorite team, Marian Hossa, Ilya Kovlachuk, great times :D and i will never forget that unlucky goal irl against the Rangers :D
I've played every game on this list, some I owned, some I would play at my friends and to me the most important games have to be NHL 98, 2002 and 2008. The jump in quality of gameplay, features and graphics from those installments compared to the previous ones are enormous. They're also the ones I played the most for good reason. A lifetime of good memories. I will always remember booting up NHL 2002 and loving the song from Gob - I hear you calling. It's my EA sports NHL anthem forever. Thanks for the upload! What's your ultimate EA NHL anthem?
cool vid, you can really see over the past 4-5 years of nhl just how many animations they have re used. seems like every year now is just updated graphics with updated rosters and just recently even less game modes depending on what console you bought nhl 15 on.
One really minor addition that I think could be cool would be suspensions in gm, season, be a pro etc. Say you check someone from behind and injure them or the AI does something similar you receive maybe a 5 game suspension or an AI player does. It would also be able to be turned off if not wanted. What do you guys think? I think it could add realism.
The more realistic the better. NHL 16 was missing a lot of things that NHL 17 is looking to offer. The thing that pissed me off the most in NHL 16 is when you're playing Be a Pro mode and get drafted to a team, you can't request to be traded. I hope they have that in NHL 17.
I've been saying that for years. I remember in 2002 they had them technically for my roster always had suspended players from sims but never from my antics playing.
+Nolan Fowler exactly. It's gotten better and I understand that there are maybe 25 developers for this game compared to the 200 something for madden. It's hard to look at bright spots for this franchise when so many key features are absent. All-star game, suspensions, realistic momentum for I can tell no difference from mid season game vs game 7 in the finals, better defense, amongst many many other little things that add up. If nhl 2k was still around I fully believe this franchise would be miles better from the competition instead I believe they are messing around with phone stuff for you can't develop much without the license sadly
NHL games I own and played in order. Yes it is a weird order, but there is reasoning behind this. PS1: NHL PowerPlay 96 NHL 2001 NHL 98 NHL 99 NHL 2000 All came in a bundle. Played birth year first, most updated at time 2nd, then the rest in order. GameCube: NHL 2005 Only had GameCube for a couple of months, as it had to be sold, so this one didn't last long. Xbox: NHL 07 Xbox also didn't last long however I managed to rebuy it all recently Xbox 360: NHL 2k7 I had 2 Xbox 360's break down within a two month span, so this game was the most limited of them all. PS3: NHL 2k9 NHL 08 NHL 11 NHL 14 I had enjoyed 2k7, especially the fact Bob Cole was the commentator so I stuck with the 2k series, but the ability to play as my home town Bulldogs brought me back to EA Sports. EA Sports hasn't let me down since. I hope I can jump to a current gen console in time for NHL 18.
Great Video. my favorite is NHL 96 PC. i played around 1200 Games 20min a period ( manuall goalie ). well i was young and had plenty of time haha Still have every statistic from all of my seasons. Flyers, Hawks, Sharks, Senators, Oilers. imo 97 was the worst. buggy as hell on windows and coast2coast hockey with 80+ shots a game. 96 and 97 pc vs console were completely different games. PC > Console ;-)
As a oilers fan I personally like NHL 2007. I have it on a PS2 because I like the older games.also because the only time Edmonton was good was the end of the 2006 playoffs going into 2007.
the 24 yr old with many many more years of success beat out 31 year old grinding for years. No Howe unfort also.....great work fans and EA . Not surprised
I'm brazilian and before 1994 I did not even have any idea about what could be Ice Hockey, then I played NHL 94 for Mega Driver ( sega genesis) OMG it was love for the first sight, Today I follow NHL, I became a Colorado Avalanche supporter ( also likes Flyers ) and I hope one day I can watch a NHL match
Most memorable for me has to be NHL 03. Alway's played that with my brother. I recently picked up NHL 06 from a pawn store and the game even that game was fun with the older GM mode which was called "Dynasty Mode". In my opinion the best NHL game to me is NHL 14.
....where is nhl hockey (92) or nhlpa 93? im sure you're young and started with 94 and that was the coming out party I guess for the series but....92 and 93 had no one timers....92 and 93 had fighting where 94 had it removed! Don't forget 93 had the introduction of the sens and lighting. Just to look at the rosters from those years is really interesting. You made a great video, hope there is more on the way
+DangleCity keep it up man. You pushing for pavel or tara for 17 cover? I'm pushing for pavel..guys paid his dues for years. Tara will be on later on....gotta hand it to joe.
My personal favorites throughout the years were 93 SNES (my first) 94 SNES (most improved) 97 PC (Customization!!) 2002 PC (most fun) 07 PS3 (HD Console graphics) 3-on-3 (NBA jam status, bring it back!) After 2010, they slowed it way the fuck down and without modifying the game speed settings (impossible on all online matchups), it lost its fun. I swear the guys in FIFA and NBA run faster than they skate now.
The original, NHL '92, which at the time was just called NHL Hockey on the Genesis, is one of the greatest games of all time, sports or not. Give me a version of 92 or 94 with modern rosters and online play and I'm set!
nice comparison it's in the game ; best thing to happen besides the gameplay gary thorne announcing worst thing the diamonds above their heads replacing the classic star graphics below
Just think, Jaomir Jagr is literally in every single one of these games..
And equally lazy in all too
@@PappyHab huh?
Dude's still in them just not in the NHL anymore
NHL 04 was by far my favourite!! I liked that you could customize your GMs office. But the game play was amazing
The transition from 97 to 98 is just amazing. What an improvement that was.
ah ok that's pretty interesting. I'll have to read about that.
+Sammo 03 to 04 was huge too
same with 07-08
yea
I had -97 for PC and it looked more like that -98 version.
2004-2007 were my favorite years. 11 year old me thought NHL 2001 looked so amazing when I first got it home...it's fun now to see how it actually looked. It was my first NHL game...I've owned every one since. Great video, really enjoyed it.
+Zeke D thanks for watching
Zeke D
Jim Myers my favs were 15 and 10
Zeke D 07 was my favorite
98 was great
I remember playing nhl 98 when I was like 5 years old back in '99 and legit feeling like I was actually in the game playing it, seemed so realistic , ea really got the small details down to point back then...for example on whistles they'd show stats, before game starts they'd do the anthem and show a warm-up..made it feel so realistic, nowadays it doesn't feel the same

Gameplay has actually been kind of worse since they jumped to current gen. Hopefully NHL 17 is a huge improvement. 15 was an embarrassment for EA and the only thing better in 16 was EASHL
NHL 2001 was my favourite one, I LOVED that game. Especially the commentary & hitting.
Your story is awesome. It's great growing up with games, eh? I love seeing old games and thinking about how I grew up with them. You should get NHL 17, it's awesome. Awesome new gameplay, more cellys, more customizations, it's awesome. Thanks you for sharing this :)

I miss Don and Jim. They made NHL 2002 even more fun then it already was. When I was younger I used to always play NHL 2002 on our old computer.
Thanks you for doing this I really appreciate this
Memories! 2000 nothing better than playing 20 min periods against a buddy and the score would be 50-49, good times
Such good memories! Man, I loved playing these games and still do! So can't wait for 17!
Fun fact: my second cousin was in NHL 12 his name is Mathieu Darche he played for the Canadiens!
Man, ‘98 was a MASSIVE year for EA.
nhl 99, nhl 04, and nhl 17 are some kind of milestones for this franchise, they show the biggest improvements compared to the previous versions. What's your ultimate EA NHL anthem?
I love NHL 07, NHL 14, and NHL 16. Have yet to play NHL 17. The soundtrack on NHL 07 was the shit. So many great tracks.
cool vid, you can really see over the past 4-5 years of nhl just how many animations they have re used. seems like every year now is just updated graphics with updated rosters and just recently even less game modes depending on what console you bought nhl 15 on.
Yup, yet people keep buying them, which is sad. EA is slacking lately because they don't have any competition.
I skipped 15.
nhl17 needs to have KHL in it
it would be awesome.
Jokerit!
+WlSEGUY kovalchuck is in nhl 16
+WlSEGUY he's on team Russia
+WlSEGUY 16 is better than 15 at least on the xbox one and Ps4. no question
95, 98,03,05,10,11,12 were the best games!!!! I miss Jim Hugsons voice on the older games soooo much!
And he is in 13 too
@Jake Ryan stfu boomer
Lol the commentary for NHL 02 xD
NHL '94 for Sega was great. They even showed highlights from other games.
try the BEST nhl 94 for sega was the best ever
Watching the nhl ‘02 footage took me back. My dad had a PS2 and we ALWAYS played that game
nhl 14 was the best, loved the fast game speed and free right toggle dekes.

+NJD009 There's so many things I want. I also don't know why they took out ability to shatter glass and hit into benches but that was awesome.
+Nolan Fowler exactly. It's gotten better and I understand that there are maybe 25 developers for this game compared to the 200 something for madden. It's hard to look at bright spots for this franchise when so many key features are absent. +NJD009 True, I've played older NHL 2k games and its ridiculous that in some ways its better than NHL 16
NHL 94. The perfect sports game. Still play in leagues to this day.
NHL '94 still arguably the best sports game ever made
2001 is my favorite. Also Owen Nolan is on the cover, and he’s my favorite player
Yes, his "called" top-shelf goal in the all-star game is classic.
I love this NHL 98 and next years.. So fast game, so good.. :)
Nhl 2000 was the greatest those wrap arounds where the goalie would follow you, 2006, 2010, 2014 are classics to
NHL 2004 was my childhood game and now that I watch this 2004 is when the nhl games graphics really hit a new level
I played NHL 94. Oh the memories. But NHL 97-98 was good too
This is a great video keep it up
i remember having NHL 94 on the sega genesis. that was my favorite at the time
NHL games I own and played in order. Yes it is a weird order, but there is reasoning behind this.
PS1:
NHL PowerPlay 96
NHL 2001
NHL 98
NHL 99
NHL 2000
All came in a bundle. Played birth year first, most updated at time 2nd, then the rest in order.
GameCube:
NHL 2005
Only had GameCube for a couple of months, as it had to be sold, so this one didn't last long.
Xbox:
NHL 07
Xbox also didn't last long however I managed to rebuy it all recently
Xbox 360:
NHL 2k7
I had 2 Xbox 360's break down within a two month span, so this game was the most limited of them all.
PS3:
NHL 2k9
NHL 08
NHL 11
NHL 14
I had enjoyed 2k7, especially the fact Bob Cole was the commentator so I stuck with the 2k series, but the ability to play as my home town Bulldogs brought me back to EA Sports. EA Sports hasn't let me down since.
I hope I can jump to a current gen console in time for NHL 18.
I had 97 on the PC and I'm sure it was better graphics, great video.
Awsome vid
i had my best childhood memory with nhl 95 with impressive Ed Belfour at a rating of 100. The blackhawks were amazing that year :)
99 with Voodoo 3 was amazing! It was like a new age in the 3D graf. 2002 was excellent too
Great Video. my favorite is NHL 96 PC. i played around 1200 Games 20min a period ( manuall goalie ). well i was young and had plenty of time haha Still have every statistic from all of my seasons. Flyers, Hawks, Sharks, Senators, Oilers. imo 97 was the worst. buggy as hell on windows and coast2coast hockey with 80+ shots a game. 96 and 97 pc vs console were completely different games. PC > Console ;-)
2002 with Don Taylor was my favorite. At intermision: " It's time for one team to party and for other team to reach for reset button"
NHL 94 crew checking in segment genesis was amazing
Wow the feels. Anyone else been playing since NHL06?
Brayden Morin
94
2001...the most I played in my life, great memories ..
3:46 Is it me, or did someone edited the cover to have the EA Sports logo from 2000 without the ring?
As a oilers fan I personally like NHL 2007. I have it on a PS2 because I like the older games.also because the only time Edmonton was good was the end of the 2006 playoffs going into 2007.
The jump from 03 to o4 seemed pretty significant as well just in terms of player models.
the 24 yr old with many many more years of success beat out 31 year old grinding for years. No Howe unfort also.....great work fans and EA . Not surprised
I Miss Gary And Bill So Much They Have Been Around Since NHL 08 And NHL 14.
The puck used to be so big and cartoony. this brings me back. =o)
Most memorable for me has to be NHL 03. Alway's played that with my brother. I recently picked up NHL 06 from a pawn store and the game even that game was fun with the older GM mode which was called "Dynasty Mode". In my opinion the best NHL game to me is NHL 14.
The goal in '97 looks more like a soccer net than a hockey net
94-we started from the bottom
17-now we here
14:31 now I will never get to know how that sentence ends...
....where is nhl hockey (92) or nhlpa 93? im sure you're young and started with 94 and that was the coming out party I guess for the series but....92 and 93 had no one timers....92 and 93 had fighting where 94 had it removed! Don't forget 93 had the introduction of the sens and lighting. Just to look at the rosters from those years is really interesting. You made a great video, hope there is more on the way
a little nhl hitz compilation/history perhaps? Those games are a blast too
+aaron maxim I will be making more in the future
+DangleCity keep it up man. You pushing for pavel or tara for 17 cover? I'm pushing for pavel..guys paid his dues for years. Tara will be on later on....gotta hand it to joe.
+aaron maxim I want tarasenko to be on the cover but I think I will be pavelski
+DangleCity I think Murray or letang or burns
My personal favorites throughout the years were
93 SNES (my first)
94 SNES (most improved)
97 PC (Customization!!)
2002 PC (most fun)
07 PS3 (HD Console graphics)
3-on-3 (NBA jam status, bring it back!)
After 2010, they slowed it way the fuck down and without modifying the game speed settings (impossible on all online matchups), it lost its fun. I swear the guys in FIFA and NBA run faster than they skate now.
My childhood game was NHL 05, still have it on the PS2, must have racked up weeks of playing time
NHL 14 was the best IMO
NHL 14
Melissa Korczyk ya, that's what we're talking about
MindedRug4 HD nah 97
NHL 94 and NHL 2012 were my favorite games as far as EA goes.
I'm still playing NHL 2002 on PS2... Love it
NHL Hockey was technically the first one created by EA. However 94 was the first one that was licensed by the NHLPA so they could use their names.
NHL '94 ..... still the best of all time!
Playing NH19 while watching this
Wow NHL 98 must've been amazing when it came out
I didn't realize how much I miss the old Sens logo
2004 still my favourite NHL of all time. Best "GM" mode easily of all NHL games...
84 amd 99 Will always be my favourite
0:53 where's the offside lol
Nhl 06 best one made. Brings back the best memories and iv been playing since 99
I love how the games don't look any different after a certain point lol
This is one of the most underrated games by EA
My favorite is NHL 13 because it was my first one I ever got
same.
mine was nhl 9
NHL 14 for me
Mine was '99
nhl 04- those memorirs
So much nostalgia when 06 came up. It was the first nhl game I played. Back when drury and briere were a dominant duo and Buffalo was a powerhouse
powerhouse taken down by Carolina :)
Mine too! :D
You might as well do a NHL94 - NHL12 video, nothing at all has changed since then.
NHL 09 is my favorite first one I have ever had great soundtrack too
Nhl 07 and nhl 16 are my favourites
I liked 2006 the most lol
07 had the best soundtrack, fun gameplay, and the best mix of players in it
+Ethan Snyder nah man, NHL 05 soundtrack was the best
***** tbh i never played
NHL 06, so I don't really know if that is any good...
+shadyassassin 14 was meh, it felt like 13 but with more fluid skating
I remember Ice Hockey on NES, with USSR and Tcheckoslovakia. Probably from the late 80'...
NHL 98 commentary still better than NHL 16
2 reasons why, Jim Hughson ans Craig Simpson
99 is good too
This was cool thx.
I liked and played a lot of 08.
What year did fighting start?I can't remember what fighting was like in the older games
Anyone notice how the goalie does the same thing every time someone scores
Which NHL had the mini games that you played on a pond. I had it when I was younger but I dont remember the year. I absolutely loved it though.
+SUPERDANK HOODPIRATE NHL 2k7
I went from NHL 16 to NHL 20 so it was quite a change 😂😂
2006 and 2009 were my favorite ones
drove me nuts when they didn't get the RH/LH right (RH'd Petr Sykora; RH'd Andrej Meszaros)
The EA NHL games I own are. 03, and 06 for PC which I bought at a thrift store. 11,12,13,14 for Xbox 360 and 15 for PS4 all bought used at EB Games.
98 is where thinks start to shape into today’s nhl
I just noticed he used the teams that played for the cup the year before
froggy gamer that is always the default matchup for “play now” or “quick play” or a tutorial.
The hitting on nhl 14 felt so good, nhl 15 was a game changer tho (mostly graphic wise)
I really liked the slapshot function they added in 01
Makes it feel like a arcade game
“Freight train wooo wooo!” NHL 99 bill clement
My faves are nhl 94 and nhl 19 - the best ever
5:18 There was a Miller Lite logo in NHL 2002? Was that ok back in the day?
The original, NHL '92, which at the time was just called NHL Hockey on the Genesis, is one of the greatest games of all time, sports or not. Give me a version of 92 or 94 with modern rosters and online play and I'm set!
nhl 07 and 2017 are my favourites
I have owned nhl 2003... Really nostalgic
I played 94, 2000, 03, 05, 06, 07, 08, 12, 13, 14, 16, and 17
WHERE THE HELL IS SLAPSHOT? I LOVED THAT ONE
Frontier Justice where is slapshot
Did they record anything new with doc after legacy edition? 15:00
nice comparison it's in the game ; best thing to happen besides the gameplay gary thorne announcing worst thing the diamonds above their heads replacing the classic star graphics below
Nice Video
Finally NHL 17 is actually good
mike poloni I spoke too soon, lol. It started off fine, now it has gotten much worse
AJAX BEATZ No.....
Commentary is fucking ridiculous. No emotion. Just get some from videos and paste it in.
