BSN Split System has padding that when submerged in water just before being applied has cotton that repelled water but when Stockingnette is added the Splint remains damp and therefore causes skin break down. I was a consultant for both BSN and 3M casting and splitting material.
Right. Like I said, not all BSN Ortho-glass is padded. There is a non-padded Ortho-glass splint that does always require padding. The padded splints are able to be used with Stockinette/webril because full immersion of water is unnecessary and application of only a little water on the exterior side is plenty to achieve hardening. In real world application, a layer of stockinette or webril, when splint is not fully immersed in water, is common practice. I am not familiar with 3M so I can only speak about Ortho-glass
I'm not going to debate you but " Like I Said" I was a consultant for 3M and BSN and trained hundreds through out the country so therefore I should know. CASE CLOSED
Don't forget to add a stockinette or padding before applying the splint in order to prevent chafing
Stocking not needed when the Splint is properly applied.
Orthoglass/fiberglass splints are not always padded, and in general it’s better to be safe than sorry
