Boris Johnson, "The Churchill Factor"
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 лис 2014
- Fifty years after Churchill’s death, the leader’s actions continue to shape the world. In his survey of this multi-talented politician, military strategist, and writer, Johnson, the mayor of London since 2008 and himself a former journalist and author of the inimitable Johnson’s Life of London, argues that history can be made by strong individuals not impersonal forces.

“You can easily judge a mans character by how he treats those who can do nothing for him”
Indeed, poor old Alexander for example has never delivered on an election promise in his life, what does that tell you about his character?
Damned by his hero.
Winston also stated: "you can always rely on the Americans to do the right thing.... after they have tried everything else".
And failed
Brilliant!
His mother was American.

Boris is now PM and if he carries on the way he started. He is on line to be one of the best prime minister's the Britain has ever produced. Churchill may have won the Battle of Britain Boris Johnson has won the battle for Britain in Brexit. The British under Boris Johnson I've got that country back after the sovereignty of Britain I've been surrendered by politicians to the EU super state without a shot fired. He is on course to make history. Well done Sir.
I feel deeply relieved anglosaxonbreed…….....having endured such treachery in the House of Commons/House of Lords/The High Court Judges'Remainers/EU Commissioners....the people really DO believe him now.....his task is to deliver.....best wishes....
The relief to have someone at the helm who is able to weather a storm while continuing to remind us of the wealth we have in our language and culture and how bloody wonderful it is!
What a load of gibberish. Last time I checked there was some water between us and France.
@@nauxsi Oh dear we have a Britain hating remoaner.
anglosaxonbreed The Battle of Britain is an event of monumental historical significance, constituting both national unity and great human sacrifice. Brexit is an almost irrelevant event in comparison, now stop using clumsy historical references to make weak comparisons to current events.
Very good to hear Boris in full flow in his natural element. He displays such genuine enthusiasm, born of conviction .
He is actually far more serious than many people realize...his jokes are peripheral and a way of engaging the audience with serious matters, & history.
What a profound contrast to Mrs May! We have had a dearth of intellect, a desert lacking in ideas & imagination .
I hope so much he will survive the current attack dogs, and become PM.
Of course he will err as all human do. But he has potential to succeed where many humans couldn’t.
Telephassa Rose I think if he’s able to gain some inner strength from his knowledge on Churchill that Boris will get us through Brexit, and take us forward. The MSM has alot more power than it did back in Churchill’s day, & rely on ppl living too busy lives to look further than the headlines. Good luck Boris!!
We have plenty of intellects, it is just that they busy being businessmen or just intellects, rather than broadly applying themselves to many different jobs, capping it off with a full career in politics, or perhaps dabbling in politics along the way, but with a strong finish.
Never have so many been fooled so much by a duplicitous, drunken and guilt ridden opportunistic buffoon with delusions of adequacy.... until now....

Boris old boy, you forgot the incident when Winston went into the men's room and placed himself at the other end of the stalls from Clem Attlee, the socialist leader. "Being standoffish today are we Winston?", asked Attlee. "Its not that Clem", replied Churchill, "it's just that whenever you see anything big you want to nationalize it!"
Graham, that is a lesser known 7th wonder of the use of English. Thank you.
johnson has always got his cock in his hand; that's why he cocks everything up.
Brilliant!
Marvelously funny, only Boris has just nationalised the railways
Yes Graham only the private railways were such a disaster the tories have just nationalised them, still highly risible joke
Boris, you appear to have missed this one: "We are with Europe but not of it; we are linked but not compromised. We are associated but not absorbed. If Britain must choose between Europe and the open sea, she must always choose the open sea.” Winston Churchill..

Yes, possibly THE most important sentence, especially in the current situation we are now in. I would place my whole entire trust in him if he overturned the 1973 Heath act, that would take us out of ALL treaties signed without the knowledge nor approval of The British citizens. LEAVE the Brussels unelected bureaucrats and all their pathetic laws, dictatorship and evil intentions of forcing us into the Globalists agenda/NWO. The EU Parliament will, hopefully crumble and fall before so very long freeing Each and Every European country, allowing them to regain their Sovereignty, Laws, Rights, Nationalism, cultures and differences that we have all embraced in days gone by. Everything should be sold off and the proceeds returned, and rightly so, to all the individual countries, whose taxes have been stolen/ given by former corrupt leaders, thus enabling ALL European countries to re-form and grow from strength to strength! And I would also like to seek all of the viewer's help here to support Hong Kong fighting for our freedom and democracy now, preventing 5000+ young students getting to jail, disappeared, raped by HK Police. Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong. Thank you internet.
Churchill was simply simple. Not overcomplicated as politicians today. That is the Churchill factor. Plus the heart he put into his speeches. That makes a different aura the audience can experience.
It wasn't Churchill who made the speeches.
I could listen to Boris all day long. Apart from being a scholar rather than a serious soldier, he does what Winston did - persuades with wit and wisdom.
I agree. It’s a shame he’s an abysmal politician because he is entertaining to listen to.
we've had so many lawyers and barristers become Prime Minister, it's nice to have someone who is a student of History for a change.
You must be very naive, just listen to the last finish of his speech.
@Terry Jackson nope, I’m still happy with the choice of PM. Thanks for the reply.

It’s such a pity that a person with such a good level of education and charismatic hasn’t really become an effective leader.
I don’t know how anyone can be an effective leader in modern politics, it’s a poison chalice and an asylum
Education. He read classics. Knows nothing about sociology, society, economics, international relations. All are required, as is the motivation to learn, read up on issues, to master briefs. He is a buffon, unknowable
Like Churchill? Churchill being a good leader has been nothing but post war propaganda. He cocked up gallipoli, he refused multiple peace offers, ultimately destroying the empire and costing lives and he was voted out at the first opportunity by the country.
By all accounts, he wasnt well liked or competent. His only saving grace was that he had inhereted a debt his dad owed to the likes of Rothschild and he became their pawn.
True, it's a shame that he didn't stay in this lane. He's an academic, he's charismatic and he is quite orator. I like him, I wouldn't want him running my country because he's an inveterate liar and cheat, but as a communicator, he's terrific. That, and his nasty limerick about Erdogan hit the nail on the head.

Excellent lecture from a guy who is fluent in French, Italian and Latin; together with excellent German and Spanish. It is exceedingly rare that he needs an interpreter with him when in the corridors of Brussels or its different summit meetings. We have only seen the surface of his abilities to date; like his fluency in Languages, he will take us well forward Post Brexit. A good man who does not shout his talents, merely gets on with the job, a fact shouty opponents find very difficult to counter with any sense.

Fascinating section on Hong Kong. Who’d have thought...
Yes Boris Johnson is a colourful, non conformist person. This presentation about Sir Winston Churchill was so interesting. Yes I wish to get a copy of Boris's book.
I used to go often to Hong Kong on business before and after 1997. I met people who said that whilst they did not have internal democracy of the overarching nature that had long existed in the UK, they felt strongly, entirely and impregnably protected by the democratic Parliament of the UK, because they had seen throughout history that democratic governments, particularly the UK Parliament, had never produced cause to fear oppression or abuse. Post 1997 they knew that no such historical precedent applied - and they still do not. Remember the 10,000 dead in Tiananmen Square.
After a decade or so of utterly banal PM's, at last we have a British Prime Minister with charisma, a deep historical perspective, a sense of individuality, and a keen sense of patriotism. These qualities have been all but absent for far too long in Britain. Thank God he's there.
Gosh. You can say that again. I've never had an interest in politics until now. I voted Labour once, but will b voting conservatives just to keep him in office. Such a bright spirit

Boris fought tooth and nail for democracy against the full force of the Remainer establishment. He didn’t have to, he could have just capitulated but he didn’t. For that, plus his irrepressible enthusiasm for Britain, his humour and his deep knowledge of history and language, I will always love him a bit.
I despise his class. I despise his politics, but I admire this man's style of delivery beyond measure. I honestly think that his sincere stream of consciousness is unparalleled in modern oratory. Perhaps much of this in the lecture theatre, but none at all in the voice of mainstream politics. A leader, regardless of conviction, is an asset.
Worst priminister at the worst time, looked at all the comments on hear and this is the same opinion they had running up to the election, mainly they thought he was funny and voted for him just for that reason. well I tell you something the majority of people in England dont think he is funny now, Brexit has been a total disaster, and the way he has dealt with covid has been a total disaster, worst mortality rate in Europe because of his incompetence because of his lack of common sence and not taking the advice of top medical professionals and his reluctance to shut the borders etc. Economy in tatters can never make a sensible decision u turns every five minutes, the list goes on and on. constantly lies in parliament, even when these lies are pointed out to him he will not admit to it. Churchill did two great things. In 1940-41 he saved Britain and the World. In 1951 he took the Tory party back into office and ended the Socialist state imposed by Atlee, Nye Bevan and Harold Wilson.
By 1940 aged 66 he had acquired a lot of experience about war and politics. And have failed as Chancellor in the depression , he had a nine year sabbatical eating, drinking, reading and writing for the Press to think about it. As essentially unpaid backbencher he described himself as a journalist and had a lifelong interest in a free media.
Within days of coming to power in May 1940, he found the Nazi army and SS on the banks of the Meuse, under the apparent command of General Guderain, his troop singing, ' we are sailing ( for England) . Winston asked his RAF Air Marshall's, ' can you provide some old obsolete planes, to expend. A 100 Battle fighter bombers, only 250 k. Right I order them to take out the house out that is Guderain's HQ on the east side of the Meuse, in the great tradition of the RAF and RN Capt of HMS Glowworm defending HMS Glorious from the Scharnhorst , they will take the German army and SS HQ by flying straight into. 20 RAF Battles went a straight into Guderain HQ, but it was actually next door, and Sailor was only shaken for a day.
