Did she always check the whole outworld before eating? It's like she's nervous that other creatures might be around. Young colonies are so shy. It's been five years so you might not have this colony anymore (if you do congratulations) but they aren't this cautious once they get their numbers up. Founding days are so special. You get to see these creatures during a fragile time.
You are absolutely correct and yes I do still have this colony going strong with hundreds of workers. Their confidence and aggression have both sky-rocketed with their numbers as you mentioned. Thanks for the comment.
Myrmecia only need solid food for feeding the larvae. Try not to over feed. Excess food will cause unwanted mould and bacteria. A little substrate helps the larvae to spin a cocoon when the time comes. Patience. 🙂
You will need to find your personal amount. Some people like to grow large colonies and some prefer to keep the colony to a manageable size. I feed mine everyday but only enough that's eaten in that day. If they are covering it with sand to try and hide it, it's probably too much.
@@crazylegs8891 thanks that helps coz yeah she covered it over I just put some orange marmalade in for her and a small chunk of watermelon she got abit arky when I opened the lid and ran in her tube that's what I didn't want
@@myaussiearachnidsandinvert7253 if she's a solid healthy queen with eggs she should be fine. I can't help but look myself. I mean what's the point of having them if you can't have a look right? It comes down to the queen in the end. If you've been lucky you will get one that's serious about raising a colony and nothing will get in her way. Thanks for your interest.
One of the best all in one ant set ups I’ve watched on UA-cam! Inspired me to take pride in my set ups and projects for my Ants!!!!
Thank you very much for dropping by and taking a look. All the best with your ant keeping. 👍

@@crazylegs8891 thanks, one cocoon so far!
Up to 40 workers now :) had to add a lot of extensions and keep feeding up
How often do you give them honey my queen has 11 eggs and in a tubs and Tubes setup. I just don't want to disturb her too often
Mine is a Myrmecia pyriformis though
