- A man has been shot dead by police in south London after reports he was armed with a crossbow and trying to force his way inside a home.
The Met Police said armed officers were called to the house in Surrey Quays, Southwark, just before 05:00 GMT.
The man, in his 30s, was allegedly threatening to hurt the people inside.
Police said the man had got into the property, in Bywater Place, when he was shot. He was given first aid but died at the scene.
Fatal police shootings are relatively rare in the UK - just one was recorded last year.

The problem with that statement is, since 'care in the community' became a thing, it is a fact there are people walking our streets that should be in mental health facilities. We don't know with this guy, nor why he was trying to break in BUT what wdo know is there is not sufficient provision to keeping people safe and working on the underlying issues in our society

The article said he had a crossbow but not that he'd tried to harm anyone with it or even if he had bolts to go with it. In the US it's the equivalent of media listing thousands of rounds of ammunition at a perpetrator's house even when all that ammunition was miles away from the incident and not on hand during. As for the crossbow it takes time to load and no mention as to whether it was being brandished or used. No mention of bolts or even if the crossbow was cocked or loaded. Too little information and, knowing how they function, I made my comment because the BBC focused on the crossbow for the reaction effect rather than the incident itself.

Militaries across the world still use crossbows, they have unique features that firearms can't match. Still a very valid weapon to use.
