She goes there to yell out to him "How are you?". She replies to the echo. "I'm doing fine.", knowing the echo is the only response she will ever get. The opening shot with Chisa is reference to the 1995 film by Shinju Iwai, called "Love Letter", a beautiful movie, his debut film, that he wrote and directed. It stars Miho Nakayama, who plays 2 roles in the movie. First the woman who lost her fiance in the mountains after he fell into a ravine and was lost. As she is trying to find anything to connect with her lost lover, 2 years later she finds his Junior High Year book from his Mom, and notices there is an address for him, but not for Kobe where they met, but his childhood home up north. So she decides to write a simple letter to him at that address, Asking "How Are you? I am fine." as a way to process her pain. To her surprise, she gets an answering letter. And it turns out it is from a woman who has the exact same name has her fiance. This role is also played by Nakayama, because it turns out, they look very alike. Later, she goes to the mountain where her fiance died, and yells out like Chisa did, "Ogengki Desu ka? " (How are you?), and supplies her own answer "Watashi wa gengki desu!" (I am fine). Someone posted the movie on UA-cam, so you can find it and watch it. It's touching and very well done! (although very grainy).
