Gabe was considering yahtzees job when yahtzee asked. As a game reviewer he's played all the AAA games of the year. Yahtzee was only thinking of the games he personally enjoyed and assumed Gabe would think the same way.
I love how they're getting so worked up over the fact that they have different definitions of 'Game of the Year'. Like everyone's understanding of every phrase must be exactly the same.
Gabe was moronically misinterpreting "YOUR game of the year" with "AWARDED game of the year," and then he was too thick and stubborn to listen for half a second to hear any one of the bajillion times Yahtzee corrected him by emphasizing "your."
+jerf herf I think it was more of a case of Gabe thinking "What is objectively the best game," considering all the things like art direction, story, level design, mechanic design and so on. His favorite thing is different from that though, since it's a fighting game, which isn't all that complex in regards to a bunch of those things. He just likes the fighting game more because he's a big fighting game fan, but he can recognize that's just his personal taste and not fighting games being the best games.
The most underrated moment has to be the end: "that explains a lot" and you can almost feel Yahtzee's rage return. Extra kudos to the return of his Brummie accent for one sentence.
This is just Gabe trying to futilely defend a pile of stupid that fell out of his mouth after he completely misunderstood a perfectly simple concept. These guys crack me up.
Yahtzee: Do you like coffee? Gabe: Well that's interesting, because coffee as a concept is okay, but coffee as a drink soft of depends on where you [blahblahblah for 30 minutes]...
Slightly less awkward than the original video. I agree with Yahtzee. When someone asks you what *your* game of the year is, they're asking which game you enjoyed the most that year.
plaguis Yeah, but that would be *"the* game of the year", wouldn't it? Idk, I'm confused and tired. They're both defensive pricks and mean to each other. But Yahtzee's funnier so he wins :P
+Vic 2.0 The only difference that I can think of between "your favorite game this year" and GOTY is that the former encompasses all games and the latter would mean your favorite game RELEASED this year. That being said, Yahtzee is right and Gabe's understanding of GOTY is insane and I would probably react similarly.
+Vic 2.0 They both say in the video that Yahtzee asked Gabe "What game would you nominate for game of the year" which IS different than saying "What was your favorite game this year" Nominating something as "Game Of The Year" would encompass the impact it had/what you think it will have on the industry and the technical merits of the game rather than just how much you liked it. It's a critical analysis of the games released during the year as opposed to just what game you liked the most. To compare with films, my favorite film of 2015 was probably Kingsman, but I think the most impactful and well-made (from a cinematic standpoint) movie was probably Straight Outta Compton
Tyler Hume I doubt it, Ive watched since they started doing it and at the time there was some "controversy", if you can call it that; Basically, people were thinking that Gabe 'n' Yahtz weren't friends anymore, they were just doing it because of how popular it was. They even had to clarify that wasn't true in one or two episodes. It was just an argument, Gabe thought Yahtz had intentionally worded it oddly to fuck with him
matstar102 If youre actually wanting to put out more of these, I have a suggestion; Do it in the style of Yahtzees Escapist videos, you'll save alot of time instead of having to animate a mouth and full limbs. It'd fit too
I know this took a great deal of work, but you've just animated them talking, good podcast animation needs to be more dynamic than that. Let your imagination run wild, like that bit with gabe's mind, add more of that in the next episode, and it'll be great.
i was trying to add more of them overlay type parts (like the gabes mind part) but it was hard to make interesting imagery to go with it with this episode :) thank you for the point though im going to be adding more of that imagery stuff with later episodes as the episodes i have planned are getting increasing longer :D so ill have my imagination to expand a bit on them parts as i know it can get boring just having the same set up of yahtzee and gabe to look at
+Барабанов Кирилл The part where Yahtzee gets really pissed off...there should have been some kind of volcanic eruption followed by Baby Yahtzee throwing his dummy at Gabe
Ugh I love it when they argue about this :D This clip is awesome. I'm totally on Team Yahtzee on this one, btw. I understand Gabe's point, but he's totally misunderstood what Yahtzee was asking and injected it with some non-existent philosophical connotations.
I'm still siding with Gabe here, even though I can see where Yahtzee was coming from... But tbh I would've probably answered in a manner similar to Gabe.
this is like the animated versions od Ricky Gervais, Stephen merchant and Karl Pilkington podcasts only better cos yahtzee and gabe make me laugh and given I listen to lets drown out like a podcast more so than watching it per se this is amazing. keep up the good work.
I don't know if you're planning on doing any more of these, but if you do, I'd love to see one of Gabe's Stephen Hawking impression from the Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction episode (bit starts at 1:05:51)
I'm surprised there aren't a billion comments up top here explaining this years before myself, so I get the slight pleasure of ironing out what seems to be the conflab. Yahtzee was interested in Gabe's *personal* game of the year, and Gabe was answering with what he thought would be the overall game of the year in general terms. The choice of wording that Yahtzee employed highlighted an emphatic difference in the lean of their two separate characters. Yahtzee strongly believes that said wording would and could only reasonably be interpreted as an inquest about *personal* preference, and Gabe strongly believes that said wording would and could only reasonably be interpreted as an inquest about a *general* consideration. Neither of them are inflexible arseholes, but rather there's a bed of assumptions contrary to each other that is perfectly highlighted by the conflab. Perhaps it is that Yahtzee would assume - follow this - that Gabe would or should assume - keep following - that Yahtzee would not have asked him about the general perception of game of the year under the circumstances, and instead would or should assume that Yahtzee would be interested in, and conversationally broaching, Gabe's own personal (this sounds sexual if you stop reading right here) view or preference. On a certain level Yahtzee thinks it's an obvious fact, or should be obvious to Gabe given their association, that Yahtzee wouldn't care about some overall perception of game of the year and he would never have meant that by the wording he employed. Hence the confusion, outrage, calling Gabe stupid et cetera that ensued. Whereas Gabe would presumably have a somewhat contrasting viewpoint, one which just as evidently defaults to the assumption that the phrase "game of the year" would - and should - be used to refer to popular ratings and general critical/consumer/whatever appraisal, and not a personal term without extra verbal appendages (ie a strict "YOUR game of the year" on the front). Gabe seems slightly less annoyed out of the two of them, which may indicate a more neutral position that's just to one side of Yahtzee's more intense lean, or that Gabe simply has that character next to Yahtzee's, who in general tends to have a stricter sense of what is and isn't relevant in a given discussion.
This is really well, but still a bit stiff. I think you should play with gestures (flailing arms around = mad) and facial expressions (mouth, eyebrows etc)
When you start watcging these you think gabe is really funny and interesting Then stuff like this comes up and thats when you learn the complexity of humans
This is great, and Gabe shared it on twitter so the men themselves have watched it! I'm with Gabe on this argument and I don't know how Yahtzee doesn't understand; there's a difference between what you think is the best game and your personal favourite game.

Gabe is probably the best example of trolling. Like, he manages to bring Yahtzee to teeth grinding anger with calmly repeating the same obviously wrong statement. He should be a politician with the way he can talk for hours around a simple question
Literally just an animation of two guys talking. You should've taken what they were saying and made it into some kind of visual analogy for their conversation like the Rooster Teeth animated adventures. I agree that for this audio clip of them talking, it might not have worked but there's a simple solution to that: choose a different segment from ANY of their videos like when they're talking about when they felt the most shame and Gabe took 3 grams of MDMA.
still on gabe's side. like, for example, my 2013 game of the year would be bioshock infinite, because i get that it's well made, fun, and has a good story, despite my favorite game to play that year being ac4 black flag for a bunch of different reasons that i know that sort of still pale in comparison to infinite in terms of quality, but i like them better anyway. it's so simple. but anyway, great animation :D
I look forward to seeing your work. I understand it must of taken a lot of time, and credit where it's due, this pretty good! But I did not like it, if I'm to be honest with you, you could have gone further with expressions, but there's also a major flaw with doing an animation of Yahtzee and Gabe, is unlike "Game Grumps" and that other stuff. They talk alot about the game because they're informed intelligent people, not to say others are unintelligent, it's just I don't think completely animated is the proper route, Yahtzee knows himself better than anyone, and he does a half-clip show have stilted circle man expressions, Gabe and Yahtz aren't really that animated. Okay the choice of that kind of Ricky Gervais Show style is perfect, but you notice that they just kinda travel places with their words like Mister Peabody. My prescription that will lengthen the amount of conversation of theirs you capture, and make it easier to animate, is do a half slide-show half animated thing, where when they talk about a subject you take them there with a picture, create a walking animation where it's them bouncing up and down at hip height to the screen. Gabriel and Yahtzee are like a healthy wholesome meal, it's good for you to consume, but it's not the most flavorful, but we'd die of scurvy if without them. Consequently they're a hard thing to imagine animated. This is only my opinion, if you read this I hope that it's a positive idea, otherwise thank you, and I will subscribe.
i'm actually surprised how the whole comments section has been on this video because people have been nice about it but also being honest and saying where it can improve :) i'm hoping to get more of a format of the ricky gervais show as i know that was what yahtzee was aiming for with the podcasting and i need to add more overlay stuff so it takes away from the same long camera shots of yahtzee and gabe i'll need to do that in the next episode as its 5 minutes long so i need to make it entertaining to watch not just like listening to a section of the episode just with different visuals
well this is me comparing your animation to the one I'm working on, but I feel you could have taken yhatzee's facial expression to the extreme (also Gabriel is fat :P)

@@HushedYayaexcept Yahtzee clarifies again and again what HIS game of the year is. Gabe is just thick as a brick
Listening to this, they seemed to have two different conversations that are only tangentially interacting.

"Well, that explains a lot."
As someone who has taken them, can confirm. Yahtz really should mellow out and try them.
This is just Gabe trying to futilely defend a pile of stupid that fell out of his mouth after he completely misunderstood a perfectly simple concept. These guys crack me up.
+Elle Sea I feel like I'm in hell
Gabe: But who's on first?
Yahtzee: *Internally screaming*
I've just found these, they are brilliant. Well played.
3:03 was the best part, I wish they still argued like this. Great video!
Oh my god this was one of the best animated shorts I have seen!
This is what I figured this what they had liked like when they did their let's drown out segments.. Lol, more please!
he lost it when Gabe said.. I have to explain something simple to you XD
Gabriel's too skinny! He has to look fat.. I mean, tough!
Yahtzee is hilarious when hes pissed
Yahtzee: Do you like coffee?

Yathzee's accent came out a bit thicker when he started yelling.
i love the touch of his hat hanging up on the stand xD

i will be but im currently redesigning it all at the moment so I can improve my animation skills as I go on :)
