Isn't a poor man's patent just publication? Publish everything then no one else can patent the idea.
Agreed. If you can't afford to file a PPA and then convert it to an NPA, publishing the invention or selling a product that embodies the invention prevents anyone else from filing their own patent. -john

Mr. Farrell, I agree with you. Years ago I was told to do the same thing. Write myself a letter. Nothing ever came of my invention, so no worries. I am in a position now that
I want to share something that I have been successfully using since the 60's that could help the disabled community but I would not like it if some company takes it for themselves for a profit. I do not have the time or resources to wait for a full patent and the provisional patent may not do what I need it to do. Also, at this time I don't have the fiancees to fight the lawsuit if needed. I'm contemplating if I should just put it out there in good faith or just take the consequences. Most likely the company would need me to consult, but maybe not? The push to put it out there should reap me other benefits. What is your opinion?
Congratulations on your idea! Have you thought of possibly posting a UA-cam video about your invention? This would prevent others from patenting your idea and give those disabled who could use your idea the benefit of your creativity. Just a thought. Warmest wishes, -john
@@johnferrellesq. Oh... My.... God!!!!! Thank you for replying to my question so quickly!!!! Yes, this is the reason why I wanted to protect it or at least thought I had to. I am making a video that is almost finished. I hope to get it out in a day or two, but most likely by the end of the week. I'm researching the best way to do this for the best results!!!! It should fall under a human interest story and also show people that they could also make it at home. You have just given me such a relief by telling me this information. I was just about ready to put it out there in good faith (which I still want to do), but now I won't need to worry that the idea will be taken. It is a super small market, but none the less it has been in the family all these years! I think most importantly would be the credit. It was my Italian grandfather who rigged this up for me when I was 2 1/2 years old........I will let you know when the video comes out and post a link to it. I can't thank you enough!!!!! Oh, I used a. word that I particularly don't like. LOL. This was to describe my idea in a generalized way and I regret it. The invention is for amputees. LOL.

I was already to put it on youtube, but I would like to monetize it. I am seeking answers as to my confusion about it on other videos. I hit earn and I get to the part where it says, "apply now." It also says, "We'll let you know when you're eligible" but neither are clickable. I wonder if I am supposed to just put the video out there and it will activate and tell me after I meet the 4,000 watch hours and 1,000 subs, but I would think the apply button would be the starting point to let them know I do want to monetize it. I am also wondering if it's not activating because I have the privacy settings on. I have it this way, so I could review it and don't know if lifting the privacy off of it and making it public will make it ineligible to monetize. Would you know the answer to this question? I'll keep you posted.
@@49Macman Yes. You can post your video but UA-cam will not let you monetize until you reach 1000 subs and 4000 annual watch hours. When you hit these targets YT will invite you to join their partner program and you can then be able to monetize. You will want to make the video public if you want others to see it. Hey I got an idea!! Someone should create a crypto currency coin, or blockchain.. that will record permanently USPTO patent submissions, that way they will actually be recorded as-is, you can't tamper with the blockchain. Think of it as a middle-man service, like cryptocurrency domains(Unstoppable Domains is a Co. that does this). I'll be happy to take a 3.3% royalty if anyone follows this idea and goes ahead with it.
