    I absolutely LOVE Kor! My all-time favorite Klingon. Other Klingon's went around like a galactic biker gang with fake balls hanging off their rear bumper, but Kor was a thinker - philisophical and thoughtful and extremely patriotic. He weighed his words carefully before he spoke. Very intelligent which made him far more dangerous than the run-of-the-mill Klingons. His admiration and respect for Kirk (Starfleets greatest legendary captain) was on instant display. I believe he would have been formidable in battle.

      Koloth ("The Trouble with Tribbles") was conceived as a recurring adversary for Kirk, but it would have been better had Kor returned from time to time. Had they gone in that direction, I could see Kirk and Kor forming an unlikely friendship over time, bringing about the Organians' prophecy much sooner.
      We can't underestimate Koloth. Yes, he appears to be an effete buffoon, but make no mistake; it's a calculated facade. Below that clownish face beats the heart of a ruthless warrior, pumping the blood that fuels the schemes of a coldblooded mastermind.

      Agreed. He also played Baltar in BattleStar Galatica. His performance as Kor was calculated to be the opposite of William Shatner’s, and his every gesture is a delight to behold. He could have easily overplayed the part, but kept his performance in check. A masterful villainous performance!

    I love how Commander Kor picked up on the fact that the Organians were...wrong! They smiled too much. He knew something was up.
    He also was disgusted when they betrayed their friends so easily. The guy lives by a Code of Honor.

    Something to look out for in the next season, there is an episode where they make a mention of the Organian peace treaty which is a reference to this episode. Such connections are rare and most episodes stand on their own

    • @davidgradwell8830
      @davidgradwell8830 11 місяців тому +2

      Absolutely, yes. Also, the Organian Peace Treaty was the only treaty that was imposed on two sides, rather than negotiated between them--a rarity in the Star Trek Universe.

    • @davidgradwell8830
      @davidgradwell8830 11 місяців тому +2

      Although, as we recall from "A Taste of Armageddon," Kirk more or less imposed peace on the worlds of Eminiar VII and Vendikar, with the formalities worked out by Ambassador Fox. He mediated a peace treaty between the Horta and the miners of Janus VI. That only came about when he forced the miners to the table. Where Kirk goes, imposed peace follows.

    • @davidgradwell8830
      @davidgradwell8830 11 місяців тому +1

      Kirk also wrenched the colonists out of peaceful bliss and back into the conflicts of everyday life on Omicron Ceti III, so he's at least even-handed about peacemaking.

    Nice reaction, and a pity about your headache.
    It's amusing that both William Shatner, who plays Capt Kirk, and John Colicos, who plays Kor, are classically trained Canadian actors who had experience playing roles onstage in Shakespeare plays. They may even both have been acting at the Stratford Festival in Ontario, but not necessarily at the same time. Btw, Shatner grew up bilingual in Montreal.
    And Colicos also played the lead villain, Gaius Baltar, in the original version of the Battlestar Galactica TV series. And in that series the actor who played Admiral Adama, the positive human fleet commander, was Canadian Lorne Greene. Lots of Canadian actors leading us in space...

    Hey Alexxa, I'm back. So nice to "watch" ST TOS w/someone who gets it. We live in times when it seems like Honesty & Free Speach will get one cancelled if they offend the correct person in charge of this narrative or that. I appreciate episodes like this that are Honest, even if that Honesty requires a look at ourselves that may be uncomfortable. Nobody seems to want to be challenged today, but that's how we grow. As an Iraq vet, I feel I've seen a place where people were really subjected to injustices & persecution. Cuz of that, I don't want to see the world continue on the hamster wheel we can't seem to get off of (path towards next war). Strange how Kirk can argue "for war" (or, the right to it) & then "take a look at himself' once the dust settles. Such good content.

      @@AlexxaReacts Gene Roddenberry originally considered calling the show "Gulliver's Travels." He wanted his series to be patterned on Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels," a satire that would be set in a fantastic world, offering commentary on contemporary issues, but disguised in that otherworldly setting. If the studio came to him saying, "Gene, you have to pull that script; we're gonna have trouble from the unions over it," Gene would answer, "What are you talking about? It's a story about a social problem on Altair 8." So, like Swift, he could offend the right people but have that dodge of saying it's just a make-believe story.
      Gene also considered calling his Captain "Captain Gulliver," thus justifying the title. (Of course, I'm glad he ultimately went with "Star Trek.")

    One of the most interesting subtle lines here was when Ayelborne said "We cannot allows you to harm yourselves." He did NOT say "harm each other." To him, humans and Klingons were just one species harming itself. He didn't see two sides. And toward the end, Kirk and Kor were standing shoulder to shoulder in unity saying that they could take the Organians. Watching this and another called "A Taste of Armageddon" together is very instructive.

    Alexxa, I like Kor, too! He was played by John Colicos, a great character actor, who reprised his role of Kor in a few episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine many years later.
    Kor also appeared in the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode, "Time Trap." He also returned in the Star Trek: New Voyages episode, "Mind Sifter," (which is available on UA-cam.) That "New Voyages" episode follows up on the references to the Klingon mind sifter device made here, in "Errand of Mercy." It also builds on the next episode up here: "The City on the Edge of Forever," thus making it a sequel to two classic Original Series episodes!

      Alexx, in the fan-made Star Trek: New Voyages series, the episode "Mindsifter" depicts Kirk in a 1950s mental institution, where he has been confined for being delusional, raving about starships and Klingons. A nurse takes a shine to him and gives him a mustard-colored pullover sweater. As soon as Kirk pulls it over himself, it triggers memories--big time!

    This episode also foreshadows:
    * Sulu as the future Captain of the Starship Excelsior! Here, we have the second (after "Arena") Sulu-in-command episode.
    * Star Trek: The Next Generation. The first stirrings of TNG! "In the future, the Federation and the Klingons will work together and be fast friends."
    KOR: Never!!!
    Ironic, since Kor is destined to survive into the Next Generation/Deep Space Nine era. He will live in that future. (Of course, even the showrunners of the Original Star Trek--and the fans!--never foresaw that!)

    21:45 Mark! 1,512 Views + Mine! 🎉 You're welcome, and thanks! 😊
    Notes: Hey, I'm aorry that you were ill, but I noticed that you did get well, since there are more episodes to see! 😊
    Do you actually use MPF cameras? If so, we're waiting for the MPF to be developed and processed and then converted for digital technology? 🤔 😉
    Oh, yeah! The Horta Eggs! You didn't see any in this episode, but eventually you should see them in use as machine parts in Engineering! 😮
    Well, that wasn't a reuse of "Mayberry"! 😂 The series "Time Tunnel" looks like it has a bigger budget than it actually had, because they wrote their stories to match up with movies that the studio had in their library archives. No need to ask for permission! 😊
    Because of that aspect of "Time Tunnel" those who know about it presume that "Star Trek" did the same thing with this episode and the others like it. "Star Trek" didn't do that! It reused stock footage ftom itself and used the savings for the new stuff! 😊 But I don't recall which set was used to represent Organia here. 🤷‍♂️. But wasn't the "Mayberry" set! 😊
    Warfare may not affect them physically, but it did affect them emotionally!
    Their diet was, ahem.. "Organian! [Organic]"! 😂
    My brother had this game table that was Pool on one side and when flipped over was Jet Hockey on the other! ("Jet" was more fun than "Very Waxed"!) It was made by "Colicos" if I recall correctly. Ever since the original "Battlestar Galactica" made me better aware of John's name I've wondered if there is a connection. 🤔
    When I joined "The Science-Fiction Book Club" one of the books in the enrollment package was "The Official Star Trek Technical Manual" and it included the treaty from Organia as a document! 😊
    Bye for now! 🖖🙏
