Dave, this man is probably the most brilliant man to come along in a long, long time - it is astounding how his work has been effectively buried and forgotten , passed over by the academic elite because it challenges their whole view of the universe/reality/human destiny. This is the gold, the genius key to the future.
I've just read The Reflexive Universe. Mind expanding and hope for another better experience of life in the future. It's not an answer for certain but it's a plausible possibility. Is it metaphysics?, Yes but well argued and beautiful.
It points to metaphysical outcomes, or topics we have labelled 'Meta' because we have not fully grasped the enormity of reality as yet. Arthur Young's arguments take established mathematics and physics and actually uses them to arrive at his outcomes - which is the difference, this is actually the same physics and maths we have used since the early 20th Century.
The purpose is to seek the path of least resistance and channel energy through that. Resistance is a beautiful word... ie. slowing down or applying a combating force. In and Out are the only directions in our universe. Everything else is the consequence of the two and they are of the same thing depending on your position; so theoretically there is just out force in different positions
