Really enjoying where the direction you're taking these videos in Bryan. Great inspiration for those us still trying to figure out our direction with photography. THANK YOU.
Thanks! I would make a ton of these if I had the time. They’re probably my favorite type of video to make because I always learn something about my own photography as I make them.
Bryan this is just another amazing example of your amazing cinematography and frictionless story telling. I truly feel lucky every time I see a new Bryan Birks video pop up in my feed. Thanks man....truly.......
Everytime your videos pop up I save them to watch later. Although i watch them much later I find them at the most poignant moments in my life. I wish you well and look forward to tomorrow's videos. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏼
Happy i was able to contribute my conversation with Vincent to this video! Vincent's a great guy and artist, very excited to see where his work will go.
Thanks for letting me use it! I didn’t want to have to interview him during the short time together. Would rather talk about other things so it helped out a lot.
@@BryanBirks absolutely! Seeing y'all roam around my hometown stomping grounds was wonderful and of course a little fomo while i'm out here in New England! Excited to see what y'all shot out there as you share it.
Just as much as the photography... I appreciate the cinematic shots of the photographer at work. This is exactly the mode that I inhabit when out exploring with my camera.
Thanks for presenting Vince and his excellent black and white images ! His words and comments are pure gold. I must say the gloom in the images is getting me down, like in a lot of contemporary photography... "Eerie", "haunting" and "dystopic" scenes all around. It takes a giant like Robert Adams to give a twist of beauty, poetry and hope to such desolate situations.
I personally think the gloom does a good job of representing how a lot of people feel about the current state of America. While I love Adams’ work, I think he paints a picture that might be too beautiful. I look at Vince’s work as reality but the hope that I get from it is much more than a Robert Adams photo. Again, my opinion. When I look at Adams’ photos, I see a veil that is hiding something. That’s just as beautiful in its own right. Thanks for your comment and for watching! I enjoy discussions like this.
@@BryanBirks I see that, crisis seem to be closing in on people all over. I still wouldn't want to commit to riding that "wave" by simply reflecting these issues. Any picture is imho something of an amplifier both inwards and towards the viewers... Thanks again, you gave me a lot of thoughts about these things.
Beautifully shot and edited, Bryan. The use of B&W for the filming works brilliantly with the photos. Your showcasing of other artists is full of generosity. Please can you let me know what music is playing for the second half as I’d love to get a copy if it’s available. ❤
Thanks for posting this. Didn't know about Vincent Glielmi and his work, which is pretty amazing. His take on shooting locally really resonates with me. Especially given all the emphasis there is on street photography in bigger cities. Not totally hating on all the redundant content people share in whatever city, where someone can accidentally capture a "cool" image, but, there's something to be said about actually having to see what's around us, regardless of how mundane or taken for granted it might be, and produce something beautiful, something truly stunning, something, that usually falls into the landscape of our own benign existence.
I agree. Street photography isn’t necessarily my cup of tea but I respect people for doing it. It actually fills me with more anxiety doing that compared to knocking on a stranger’s door. Not sure why. I wanted to showcase Vince because he’s a rad person but like you said, it is something different. Everyone does have something new to say but not everyone has something new to show.
@@BryanBirks If you're ever gonna be passing through SE Michigan at any point, hit me up, if you're comfortable with that. wow what great videography. i always find it amusing in these kinds of vlogs where the video footage is either blowing past the photos or really giving it a run for its money.
Really extraordinary things Fantastic video of a truly visionary artist. Eternity reminds me of a famous character in Australian history. A guy in the 1930s spent every day for years walking around Sydney writing Eternity in white chalk on the Sidewalks. He was basically asking people to think about eternity I'm not into his religion but the idea still resonates Anyway Good work both of you.
It is both amazing and disturbing how nothing can be said today without using the word "like" many, many times. I'm old enough to remember when it was a mainstay of MAD magazine.
what's the name of the person who's done jasper? Also interested in the film Vince Glielmi mentioned. Another astonishing work of yours Bryan. I really dig the medium format look in combination with Glielmis work. Very very good storytelling. Honestly if this was like 1 hour I would totally pay for this! I mean I would even pay for this film if I had the money right now. Thank you Bryan!
I'm in love with the music around 8 minutes in. Can anyone tell me what it is? - that aside, I'm so inspired by this work. In this digital age, a lot of photography is very similar like people are following the same formula, using the same filters. It's not easy to stand out on the stage of social media. These images speak to me from a place that's away from all that. They're bright and dark, exciting and very clever.
I’ll have to look up the song name and let you know. It’s from Artlist so it’s not a well known artist. I’m always looking for people that make different work. It’s true that you see the same things on UA-cam because there’s definitely a formula like you said. Why switch it up when you see what works for others? Glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for watching!
@@BryanBirks Ahhh cheers!!! Yeah when he was talking about film I got confused when I was thinking it was some sort of GFX, the dynamic range on the 100S is *chefs kiss*
Like I almost finished watching like, but I couldn’t like make it through like because it was totally like hearing the word like every like minute. Unlike.
Could have chopped it up and deleted them but it messed with the tempo and sounded robotic. I don’t mind them. When I interview you be sure to be on point. Oh wait…
this was so good! wish it was longer.. could've watched this for hours
Maybe a directors cut in the future 🤔

This is beautifully done, thank you Bryan. Vince Glielmi and Matthew Genitempo are gifts!

Over the top intro music but thankfully brief.
