I sometimes have trouble staying asleep in the middle of the night. After watching this I got up and threw out my OC sleep meds. I had no idea they can cause memory issues. I watch your channel as my mother at 81 has memory issues and is in complete denial. She is a worrier and for years used benydral to stay asleep. This may have exacerbated her condition today. I may not be able to reverse her symptoms but I surely at 56 can try to reduce my likelihood of having cognitive impairment when I hit 80! Very big thank you!
I was shocked to see what the commenter below me said about about 10 mg. being the most common dose. I am a retired RN and years ago I read an article in Reader's Digest about some research study that had determined that the ideal dose of melatonin to help you get drowsy was 0.3 mg. At that time I could find that dose and used it regularly. Then later on I couldn't find anything lower than a 1 mg. So I started buying 1 mg. tablets and taking 1/2 of one about 2 hours before I wanted to go to sleep. I still do take that dose and it works great for me. Now something surprising happened 2 or 3 months ago about something else that has dramatically added to my getting a good night's sleep. I started taking magnesium glycinate twice a day. I didn't realize at first that it was the magnesium giving me a better night's sleep, but then it dawned on me it would have to be the magnesium. I had been waking up too early and not being able to get back to sleep. After starting the magnesium I've been sleeping all night and not waking up too early. I'm also taking magnesium L theanine for its calming effect. That's working too. Enjoyed your video.
Emilie. I do the same thing you were doing now and I love it. I have been doing the 0.3 about four hours before bedtime. I will eventually move up that dose. But everything is so much better in my life when I take magnesium glycinate I take the Farmhaven. It also has vitamin D three in it and that helps so much with my depression and nerve function .
I have always wondered why people take much higher doses of melatonin, and I wonder now if it is because of the fact that the oral bio availability is low: 15 to 25% for doses of 2 to 4 mg oral. Personally, I put liquid drops in my mouth for subliminal absorption.
I used to effectively practice a self hypnosis technique where I could fall to sleep I'm a very short time (usually minutes). I suffered a spinal cord injury in 2006, resulting in an incomplete quadriplegia with Brown Sequard syndrome, and the combination of nerve pain and the pain of laying on muscles that have no tone have turned my ability to sleep on end. I can't stand the side effects of Neurontin and Baclofen and avoid both. Melatonin has been a huge blessing. OTC sleep drugs have been helpful, but I'm now afraid to continue their use. I'm very much looking forward to next Tuesday's episode to see what other offerings might offer a positive outcome. Thanks much for this video!!!
I take Gabapentin, Zanaflex and 10mg of Melatonin from Sams and my sleep quality and duration is inconsistent. I do have vivid dreams and wake up rested but seldom refreshed. I’m glad I found your channel.
I learned about Delayed Sleep Wake Phase Disorder, and will be recommending this episode to my PCP & Sleep Disorder Center docs. Never heard of it before, but it describes me uncannily accurately. Have had regular sleep studies since 1996, was 1st diagnosed with obstructive, then severe obstructive, then central & severe obstructive apnea. Have used CPAPs & later (now) BiPAP machines. PTSD nightmares are not really controlled with Rx meds, but a little better. Classical musician, so get out of rehearsals/concerts 10:00 pm, then drive home, then brain is still going 1,000 mph until about 1:00 am, is easily 2:00-2:30 before I can force myself to lie down. Never wake up for appts, etc without at least 2 alarms. When I do have the luxury of sleeping in, I wake up around 9:30-10:30 am. Add the diagnosis of narcolepsy, and Armodafinil. My sleep doc has prescribed 1.5 hour naps with BiPAP every afternoon to be done by 3:00, not to be skipped any more than I would skip a medication. They help so much! Still, I can’t force myself to go to bed before 1:30-2:30 even when I’ve been home all evening doing quiet things. My PCP has just started me on 6 mg/night of melatonin after 2 years of me begging him for something less toxic. Too early to tell, but it seems to be making me feel a little thickheaded around 12:00, then groggy by 12:30, so I have been able to get to bed about an hour earlier. I use the SleepCycle app to track my sleep stats, and there is a slight improvement in the regular sleep part of the graphs, but no increase in REM. Yet. 🙂
I’m in love ❤❤❤. You’re my sort of person lol. Cannot wait for your recommendations. S4 Lung 3 yrs ago. Mets to brain in March, removed Tumour. 2 weeks later, Radiation shield scan showed # of smaller had doubled. Gave me 2-3 months!!! 6 months on, doing great. The brain fascinates me, along with Sleep. Finding scientific evidence like yours is really cool 😊
I’ve just been given it on script after refusing Mirtazapine, one great night, one terrible, one in-between. This is with ‘Accord’ 2mg XR from my psychiatrist in combination with adhd treatment.
I began using melatonin in my later years. It’s been a godsend for me since I suffered with sleep paralysis since I was a teenager. Sleep was not something I looked forward to since this resulted in nightmares also. I know some people say that melatonin gave them nightmares but it had the opposite effect for me. I take between 3-5mg per night. I’ve done some reading up on melatonin and was pleased to find out the it can help with inflammation and pain which is important for someone in my age group. Thank you for your careful research into this subject and others I seen on your channel. We need more options for our physical and mental health aside from prescription medications.
@@jimmcconnell7328I think rhesus negative people are more likely to experience phenomena like sleep paralysis and other paranormal activities. I am rh- and experienced these a lot. Sleep paralysis only once, but other phenomena a lot…
I need to find your video with that company recommendation. Many years of past history shows this for me: melatonin helps me get to sleep but invariably wakes me at 3 am. In fact I am watching this at 4:30 AM because i took melatonin to help me get to sleep. Also, consistent use leads to headaches after awhile. I use between .5 MG and 1 MG since my brain is sensitive and reacts to anything which is used in much quantity.
I just discovered your channel and am so glad I did. Your information is very clearly presented and at a good level for us. I do have a question that has been on my mind for a while - I would appreciate any ideas on this area. I am 75. A good while back I started going to bed with my IPhone. I listen to an audio book, either fiction or non-fiction. I do this to distract myself from ruminating about the events of the day. Frequently I will fall asleep with the audio still playing in my earphones. I wonder if this may affect the quality of my sleep (REM?) or have other effects on my brain. Many thanks for providing us with such useful information! I have not used melatonin on a continuing basis. I never really understood what it was and how it worked. The reviews seemed very mixed.
Me: 73 yr old M; military combat veteran (Vietnam), Agent Orange; PTSD. Receiving some treatment from VA - seems like just throwing pills at the problems. I have used melatonin for a while, many years ago (before I was in the VA system.) I don't recall what my impression was - good or bad. I am not using melatonin at this time. I know I have disturbed sleep (my wife tells me ... I don't remember anything myself) and I am often drowsy during the day. Based on what you say in this video, I may be willing to try it again, depending on cost. I know quality costs $$, but I also have limited funds.
I recently started taking melatonin. I've had significant sleep problems for a couple of years. No hangover effect taking melatonin, but I was also nervous to take a hormone while not under a doctor's care, so I was taking a child's dose the first month. 😅 I started what seems to be the most common dose, 10mg, this week. I'm not sleeping much longer, but my Fitbit tells me that I'm getting more deep and REM sleep. I'm so interested and can't wait for your next video with your recommendations!
I've noticed my Fitbit sometimes doesn't record my sleep until an hour after I fell asleep. I noticed this last night because I was so tired that I was in bed at 10 (so 99% sure I fell right asleep) but it didn't start the timing until 11. I mostly use it for my nighttime heartrate which has been in the low 40s.
I don't know, first she says she doesn't want you to take over the counter sleep medicine and then she says you should take an over the counter hormone. There's a reason melatonin is illegal in the EU. It's the last thing they prescribe after they try everything else.
I have unfortunately been using benadryl for sleep for probably over 30 years and I am 59. I cant sleep without something! I had an eye problem about 5 months ago and decided I have to get off of it. I have been taking melatonin and it gets me to sleep but dont stay asleep. So I have been taking 5mg melatonin and a half a tablet of benadryl and it works pretty well but I would like to completely get off Benadryl! I have given up caffeine and have found if I make sure to exercise I sleep better. Anyway THANK YOU SO MUCH for your videos!
Have you thought it could be cortisol? Just recently I have struggled with sleep. Waking at 2am and so awake. It took me a while to realise I was stressed but I have had issues with pain. I have also put on weight unsure if this is caused by menopause age or diet or exercise. I have made changes to my diet and exercise and taking vitamins has helped but my REM sleep has been awful so I look forward looking at melotinin
Yes, i am surprised. My husband takes Trazadone a couple hours before bedtime, then 2 melatonin right at bedtime and sleeps very well throughout the time. No nightmare, no restlessness. Sleeps very well and wakesup up refreshed. He is 79 years old with cognitive decline and melatonin keeps his brain calm throughout the night.
Sleep = Brain health. what definitely shocked me was all the things that go on in the brain while we sleep. I am going to start implementing the three of the sleep hygiene you talked about. 1. Having a particular time I go to bed and get up 2. Having a ritual. #Before I sleep I will read 5 or a few pages of a book (a physical book) 3. Reducing the brightness of my device once it is an hour to the time I go to bed. Amazing video. Thank you. Excited to watch future videos.
I'm a nurse and barely have time for 7 hours of sleep. I wake up at 3:00 am to go to the gym before my shift and I go to bed at 8:00 pm. 5 MG's of melatonin definitely makes me feel unrested and hungover the next day. I literally almost fall asleep in the shower.
@@dagmarvandoren9364 My husband died and my children are grown. No one is coming to save me. It is what it is. I could have slept all day today but I decided to do some work from home and cook healthy meals for the week ahead. Overall, I like my life.
I have ADHD and my sleep pattern is, well, not a pattern. A week ago i watched another video on melatonin and decided it would be nice to give low dose a try in other to regulate my circadian rhythm. Now, as I live in the UK that would involve importing 10mg melatonin tablets from USA in contravention of the ridiculous psychoactive substances act 2016 and calculating the weight required for 0.2mg and weighing this amount out using highly sensitive scales. Of course, as a law abiding citizen I wouldn't dream of doing this, well, not unless I'm getting REALLY REALLY good sleep. 😉
Looking forward more specifics on dosage & how long before seeing results. I’ve tried liquid melatonin..1/2 to 1 mg for only 3 nights & seems to create even more difficulty in sleeping.
@@laggerb4680 is just misunderstanding what it actually does it actually helps your mitochondria I took one before bed once had me up all night long and into the next day
I am like that, sleep easy to 10 am or 11am. But issue with melatonin is that I sleep sooooo bad on melatonin =wake up during the night and this I have heard hundreds people say. Whats about that?
I noticed that about every 30 seconds to one minute you were pushing your glasses back up. If you get glasses with the little plastic wings at the nose you will never ever have to push your glasses up again. The little plastic wings help to keep the glasses behind the little bones of your nose.❤
I bought a bottle of liquid Melatonin, I took 300 micrograms , a few before I went to sleep. I slept well but the next day I was so angry and agitated. I did it for two days and I tested it and I’m not taking it any longer cause the way it makes me feel the next day.
Usually melatonin comes in milligrams not micrograms. Three micrograms is very little ,one tenth of three milligrams. It should be more like three mg. Some people take anywhere from three to ten milligrams. It also can increase depression in some people who suffer depression already so one has to careful about this.
I take 10mg time realise of Melatonin ( buy it a Cotsco ) and I sleep like a baby. I start taking it for PAIN not for sleep, MELATONIN IS A FORM OF PAIN KILLER and it works like a charm!!! You don't mention it, did you not know it? Maybe because I sleep more my body has more time to heal. ❤
One thing I feel is missed in these discussions is the cycle. During the day, melatonin should be suppressed, and nighttime released. So it is not a case of more is better. Also it is worth noting that the light intensity outside is 100-1000x brighter outside (~20,000lux) than even a brightly lit office (~100Lux). So I suspect more needs to be explored about daytime suppression of melatonin to allow night time release.
Unfortunately, here in NZ it's only available to children & elderly by prescription (not sure what numbers they use to define that, as my son is 18 & has a prescription). I've always had sleep issues, did/do all the things you're supposed to, but they won't give me melatonin. Instead I get a very restricted amount of a sleeping pill while they side eye me. Valerian, passionflower, lemon balm, skullcap herb combos can _sometimes_ help to fall asleep but never stay asleep if I'm having issues I'll wake up. I took my son's melatonin one night & slept like the dead, amazing. *STILL* can't get it, & already pay $40/month for my son's, so it's not cheap either (most prescriptions are $3-5NZD here). Oh & it's illegal w/o prescription so no can't import it.
20 years ago when I started perimenopause my sleep got really bad. So my doctor gave me Ambien and I was on Ambien for 10 years maybe 12 and when I found out that eventually that Ambien is going to cause me even more memory loss and possibly worse, I weaned off of it slowly by using melatonin. I started at only 1 mg melatonin because I soon found out taking even 5 mg right off. The bat was too much for me. I don’t know if it’s because I’m 677 MT HFR, or because I have other issues but 1 mg was fine if I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn’t go back to sleep I would take another milligram. And this went on for a couple months and then I slowly increased it to 2 mg and etc. etc. now 10 years later I am on 5 mg hour before I go to bed, and when my head hits the pillow, I take another 5 mg. And if I wake up at 3 o’clock in the morning and I can’t go back to sleep, I will take another 5 mg and this has worked for me but mind you it has taken me years to get to be able to take that much melatonin without causing any grogginess or forgetfulness or whatever could happen. While ago I was reading about melatonin for cats because one was having some FHS issues so I was just trying to be proactive. Thankfully they calm down by taking some rescue remedy. But some recommendations say 1 to 20 mg, I was freaking out I couldn’t believe it because 20 mg at one time would kicked me in the butt and down the street to downtown 😂
I've had insomnia ever since I can remember, there are other people in my family who also suffer from it, it's only an issue when I'm driving long distances, and working on repetitive tasks, where I can feel incredibly sleepy, melatonin, zoplicone, alcohol, THC all help
I've been taking Natrol gummies, 10 mg. for approximately a month. They seem to work, but I wake to use the bathroom, but feel I sleep pretty sound. I've taken some of the capsules in the past and they seem to give me a headache. My husband said the same thing about them. We even tried the slow dissolve one's and they have the same effect. So far the gummies haven't given me a headache. My husband and I have also taken otc sleep medication like Advil PM, or even Nyquil and I feel like they do cause some memory issues so really trying to avoid those. Looking forward to your lectures next week. 😀
Very very very very helpful. I have struggled with this for so long. I have read books listen to podcasts… I tried about seven different brands of melatonin, and then three weeks ago the pharmacist gave me 2 mg of prolonged release, pharmaceutical grade, melatonin, and for the first time in five years, I slept with nothing else. I have never taken benzodiazepines because I worked as a therapist for 45 years and I know the dangers. I want to understand more about how you can use anti-histamines to lengthen the sleep time.. The first one the pharmacist recommended was 50 mg and that was enough to put an elephant to sleep And the feelings after were horrible. Then I tried 25 mg and I am soon going to try Dramamine the 25 mg 115 hrs. later I was still feeling dopey and groggy and I didn’t like that. I am fascinated by the positive affects of the pharmaceutical grade 2 mg, it’s just that I don’t get enough sleep. The other thing I’ve been able to do is to start walking and now I’m walking between six and 7 km a day and I think that has really helped my sleep. I wasn’t able to do that before because I’ve had chronic fatigue. I have been under the care of a marvelous functional medicine doctor for the last four years. I would add two other things. No one talks about the relationship between aggravations in the intestines, caused by food, sensitivity, or infections, and how that disrupts sleep or in my experience virtually stops, deep sleep. The other thing that has been magnificently helpful but not the cure-all has been breath work. It definitely helps. I think my sleep has been poor for a very long time and it wasn’t until I got to my functional medicine doctor that he pointed the needle exactly in that direction sleep studies where I live cost about $900 which is out of my reach. Of note, this sleep problem started the week before my brother died. I think this problem causes so much suffering for so many people. I deeply and lovingly, thank you for what you did this morning.❤️🙏
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain, primarily responsible for regulating sleep-wake cycles. It helps control your circadian rhythms, promoting sleepiness in the evening and helping to coordinate the body's response to darkness and light. Melatonin supplements are often used to treat sleep disorders or to help adjust to time zone changes (jet lag).
I had two bad things happen taking melatonin: 1. Felt like I was ‘awake’ sleeping if that makes sense 2. Slept so hard on my own arm it was numb and limp for several days
5 years ago, I stopped taking melatonin after some captious guys in youtube opined that melatonin causes brain fog after waking up. Recent medical experts have determined that melatonin is good for the mitochondria and energy and other health benefits. So, for a few months now I have been taking 90 milligrams every night - no issues. I sleep 7 hours per night (sometimes 8) and I feel great upon waking. I am 69 yo male. Recent research has shown that taking lower dose melatonin results in fat loss and some muscular development.
I knew that melatonin was used all over the body because it's a hormone produced by the pineal gland. I think I have that delayed reaction sleep thing or I just have insomnia. I have had problems getting to sleep since I was a small child. My perspective includes having IBD - inflammatory bowel disease in the form of lymphocytic colitis. Therefore, I don't digest my foods, supplements and minerals well. I do use proper sleep hygiene as best I can each night. So many comments and Qs... - A plant form - (natural) of melatonin developed recently. Is this the one you're alluding to come next week? - I use melatonin. (2) - 3mg from Life Extension. It also has microcrystalline cellulose and rice concentrate as fillers. and a vegetable cellulose capsule. Now, I know it's synthetic... they all are except the new plant form. I went off it for about two weeks and my sleep quality declined. (1) 3 mg doesn't seem to work. I do a receptor site reset once a month where I don't take any for about 3 days. It seems to help the very vivid, lucid dreams I get from it. - Curious to know more about how this affects morning drowsiness and bowel function problems. I do have a hard start to most mornings even with the IBD mostly under control, I still struggle to get moving after rising but I always have. - VA sleep study done... for what it's worth,. Said I have insomnia yet had no insomnia clinic/help to speak of. Focusing on sleep apnea but not insomnia. - Curious about accuracy of sleep apps. I use Sleep Cycle. My psychologist said they are all based on movement and sound. Not too interested in wearing a wrist device that I have to be hooked up to bluetooth/wi-fi. - I think I sleep better than I ever have because I am retired and sleep when I want and how long I want. Waking up naturally. I am asleep by midnight and rise around 8. I take 50 mg 5-HTP and some CBD and THC cannabis. - Thoughts on valerian use? I can take a few drops if I really need to ensure I sleep for the next day's activities but really can't get past the smell... rank... filthy, dirty socks! - Thought on screen filters for night use, like f.lux?
Have you read medical studies that show that melatonin is also produced and used by the Mitochondria? Apparently rats who had their pineal gland removed were still found to be producing melatonin. It is being compared with vitamin D due to its wide, and protective effects on the body. I sometimes think that when you read bad press about supplements, is it big pharma trying to put down any competition for their products? They don't really want people to be healthier.
Hi, I've just heard a well known longevity 'expert' say that taking melatonin can cause calcification in the pituitary gland which can contribute to among other things alzheimers .He said he has reduced to 4 times a week .He looked uneasy while saying this and I wonder could the explosion of the numbers now taking it have anything to do with his remark as he has vested interest in the health field .Have you any information on what he said Thank you for all your work .
I have been taking melatonin 10mills at night and it works awesome. I've noticed if I have a headache and take melatonin my whole brain feels better and I also have noticed that melatonin gives me wild dreams.
It made me depressed the next day. I tried it repeatedly with the same result. This was about 7 years ago. I was taking 3mg a night. Maybe that was too high.
I turned 50 last year and according to my Fitbit which I've had looked at I've had other people try it and it worked for them but me I'm lucky if I get 30 minutes of deep sleep in 7 hours. I also have been having so many problems with my short-term memory every day all day. I can be in the middle of a conversation with someone and I will completely go blank and completely forget what the topic is just like that. I am truly afraid of what's going on with me and my memory. Now I do have a history with seizures could that be the reason with my short-term memory I wonder I don't know.

Then my primary doctor calls me and says since I didn't go to the cardiologist she doesn't know if she can be my doctor anymore or not and that's all I know up to now....if I loose my Dr I'm so screwed.
Hello, Doctor. I have searched to see if you have done any videos on macrocytosis and stroke, but could not find anything. Would you please discuss this condition(s) in a future video? Thank you.
Hello. I'm very curious as to how the brain affects restless leg syndrome. I read somewhere that it has to do with low iron in the brain. I have the syndrome really bad and nothing seems to help. Many medication's and many many supplements and nothing. I will try the melatonin and I hope that it helps but I am doubtful because of this syndrome. I thank you so much for your channel. You are the best!!❤
I get it half an hour after ingesting any food or water. So no night time snacks. If I get it for mysterious reasons as I am lying down I always quit lying down and stand up and read a book for fifteen minutes. This puts the leg circulation into a downward flow, in terms of my legs, and this seems to stop the restless leg syndrome. You have to school yourself to jump out of bed immediately that you get restless legs, and be okay about missing fifteen minutes of sleep, a little loss of sleep doing this regime means a less disturbed night from the hours of around four to eight. You can adjust to this. Doctors adjust to being on call.
I took melatonin 30 mg with my other meds 2 nights in a row. I had tremors and jitters all night and felt horrible. I thought something was wrong with me. But later that day I remembered I took melatonin and I thought maybe I had a reaction. I won’t take it again bc of how bad I felt. I really felt so terrible. Has this happened to anyone? I can’t find any info on what happened to me. I also had joint pain. Thank you
Can you make a video or series on anticholinergics? I feel like it's a scary word, but a lot of drugs have anticholinergic effects. I thought that the relationship between dementia and anticholinergics was not firmly established, and particularly in young and middle aged adults there's no evidence anticholinergics will cause dementia in the future. Thoughts?
I've tried melatonin and it didn't help me sleep. Maybe the wrong product or the wrong dosage. My GP prescribed Trazadone which works well but I'm concerned about the longterm effects

Willing to report my results if your willing to take it? Blessings.

Lots of sleep noise/music videos on YT that run about ten hours. It's helped me quite a bit, takes my mind off things. Chanel, "Nui Meditation Music", and many others. I set my cell phone up on its charger, on a low volume over three feet away, and fall asleep, pretty soon after.
I am 45. 3 weeks in taking 40mg before sleep. I started to notice improvements in all areas of the body. Better sleep. Less pain. Better digestion. Better mood...
Who pulled that number out of thin air? The world “expert” on melatonin takes over 100mg and indicates 300mg or more if cancer. Says no LD50 could be determined. Some take 3 grams daily. Doesn’t appear any studies have been done to determine optimal dosage, likely varies for everyone.
What? We take melatonin from cows? Then how will the cows be able to sleep? That seems unfair. I hope they do this without distressing the cow. Or maybe they take it before slaughter? I don't know. But stealing a sleep hormone from an animal seems wrong. Just sayin!
Mel goes way beyond sleep. Starts as tryptophan via the amino acids consumed. Other Amino Acids supporting sleep in glycine... Likely for brain detox timing via the glymphatic system. But, the amino acid couples and shifts for more functions than sleep. Light only shuts down the pinear requirement. Mel formation is also used during daylight hours in the gut and cellular function. Vagus verve connection via gut brain. It's not a strictly sleep hormone

Is there any evidence that melatonin can help with RLS? I know there's not a lot of research on RLS (from the papers, I've read but maybe I missed something). I feel there's a strong correlation with low dopamine levels, at least in my case anyways. At this point I'm willing to try anything if there's any chance it could help. Great info thanks!

I had been waking up too early and not being able to get back to sleep. After starting the magnesium I've been sleeping all night and not waking up too early. I'm also taking magnesium L theanine for its calming effect. That's working too. Enjoyed your video.
I'm glad you mentioned mag. when I forget it I don't stay asleep long. If I use melatonin I take 5 mg. I also used it daily during Covid mania.
Thanks for the information .I' just started 1mg of melatonin but I think I could cut the pill in half.also the magnesium at night is a great idea 😊
@@charitylankford9987 Maybe look into high dose benefits of Melatonin. Thanks.
Dr. Sullivan, you are fabulous!
Melatonin difficult to get here in the UK, other than online from abroad. It has definitely helped me (63) sleep better.
I’ve just been given it on script after refusing Mirtazapine, one great night, one terrible, one in-between.
This is with ‘Accord’ 2mg XR from my psychiatrist in combination with adhd treatment.
In Australia I think over 50 you can easily get. Though we get 2mg
Call on the name of Jesus to get saved and break free from sleep paralysis, I had it a few time horrible! At the name of Jesus demons flee.

I'm taking an average of 100 mg of melatonin late afternoon to sleep. It does help a lot.
I hope that's a typo. 100mg is a HUGE dose.
Excellant presentation on melatonin and brain health.
@@lovenothate111 Thanks for your suggestion. Kind of you to comment. But if I take over .5 MG (1/2 GM) per night I get awful headaches.
Weighted blankets have totally improved my sleep and general muscle relaxation. The effect was life changing.
I'm gonna try that tonight 😊 thanks
This is great!! I've been waiting for this type of information for a while.. can't wait until episode!!
Thank you. Excellent coverage of this topic. I will share with others.
10mg??? That's dose for 70 year old
Wow
Interesting. I might have to
Look at my Fitbit.
@@intuitivedianeHow did you fix this problem ?
Yes, i am surprised. My husband takes Trazadone a couple hours before bedtime, then 2 melatonin right at bedtime and sleeps very well throughout the time. No nightmare, no restlessness. Sleeps very well and wakesup up refreshed. He is 79 years old with cognitive decline and melatonin keeps his brain calm throughout the night.
Sleep = Brain health. what definitely shocked me was all the things that go on in the brain while we sleep. I am going to start implementing the three of the sleep hygiene you talked about.
1. Having a particular time I go to bed and get up
2. Having a ritual. #Before I sleep I will read 5 or a few pages of a book (a physical book)
3. Reducing the brightness of my device once it is an hour to the time I go to bed.
Amazing video. Thank you. Excited to watch future videos.
Thank you for being here!
Do you like your life? .....
1 mg? Only?
That’s because melatonin Is not a sleep aid and I wish people stop saying that

No actually mcg is often recommended, less is better…google it.
@@jimmcconnell7328If you pay attention to the video she clearly states that 5 mg is way too much. Most people need in the microgram range.
It works for me and it helps with my muscles pain and joints.
Yes it helps my RA pain but it makes me dizzy 😂
Yes I just commented about how it will take my headache away.
I am not using it for sleep, but antioxident effect in autoimmune disease.
Thank you for your time and expertise
Oh & it's illegal w/o prescription so no can't import it.
that's bullshit I can buy a whole bottle here in Arkansas for a few dollars

Hi Doc, great vid, can supplementing with melatonin long term impact the brain's ability to produce melatonin naturally?
Any thoughts on Valerian root extract for sleep?
Thanks Karen, looking forward to next tuesdays information
took 5mg of Mel. last night and was literally awake until 4am - it had the opposite affect to what I wanted!
I had two bad things happen taking melatonin:
1. Felt like I was ‘awake’ sleeping if that makes sense
Hi, still taking 90 milligrams every night?
- Thought on screen filters for night use, like f.lux?
also how do cortisol issues or adrenal fatigue issues affect sleep?
Have you read medical studies that show that melatonin is also produced and used by the Mitochondria? Apparently rats who had their pineal gland removed were still found to be producing melatonin. It is being compared with vitamin D due to its wide, and protective effects on the body. I sometimes think that when you read bad press about supplements, is it big pharma trying to put down any competition for their products? They don't really want people to be healthier.
I use Berkley Jensen Melatonin - it helps to alleviate the somatic pain and headache so I can sleep following TBI
I take a larger dose than most and it helps with quality of sleep vivid dreaming too

There are articles that say melatonin may be pro-inflammatory like this one: Does melatonin play a disease-promoting role in rheumatoid arthritis? Your thouights?
It modulates inflammation, so it can do both, but it is mostly considered as an anti-inflammatory
I suffer from head shaking in the sleeping position and this does not happen during the day and it is painful. White dots have previously appeared in the MRI scan is my case encephalomalacia?
Regards sleep trackers, some on the market are very inaccurate
The site by “the quantified scientist” suggests both Apple and Fitbit are the most accurate.

How do you feel about high-dose Melatonin? 250-1000mg per day
I think that's much too high. I agree with trying to mimic normal bio levels.
I guess it’s time to stop Unisom. What about the CBD gummies? And how much melatonin?
I am 45. 3 weeks in taking 40mg before sleep. I started to notice improvements in all areas of the body. Better sleep. Less pain. Better digestion. Better mood...
When I took melatonin in the past, it gave me terrifying nightmares. They were so bad, I was afraid to go to sleep at night.
That's interesting I have strange dreams but not nightmares.
Maximum recommended dosage of melatonin is 40 Mg.... You could go to 1,000 without any toxic effect but there's no point in that sort of dosage
@@ws7001 I forgot my reference....I take 20 mg...mice study
Hi, I take 20 mg but I 69 no groogie feeling wake ready rock the 🌎 about the climate crisis no one wants to face 😮
20 minutes worth of sleep is valuable for an 80 yr. old insomniac worry wart.
If its so good for us,why does the australian government limit the time you can take to 2 weeks...mixed messages.
So you actually trust your govt. 😢. Why not try it for yourself? I have taken it for a long time. No bad covid either, but don't take my word for it.
@@kath3611 I have ...for me it works a bit the first night ,but not after that.
Government is not your friend. The word government literally means " control mind" be free, think for yourself!
I am one that likes to stay up until 2 a.m.-3a and the sleep until 11 or later even.😂
Don't go gently into the night.

I give up on stupid people posing as scientists. I'm a pharmacist of 34 years and kept up on all matters molecular and biochemical and I am so tired of amateur opinions. This woman is stupid.
Waste of time listening to this. If you want to know about melatonin listen to Dr John Lieurance. Or Dr Russell Rieter
BS. REM sleep is not deep sleep 🙄
Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is the deepest stage of sleep. We can believe differently, though.
