    There's so many exceptions to every rule that I think it is a waste of time to tell them.
    You gave this "8~11" rule for energy.
    It doesn't apply to charizard, lugia vstar, miraidon, dragapult, or snorlax stall. All strong meta decks.

      There are definitely reasons why those decks work and why those exceptions are pretty normal right now. It merits its own video, but these decks can get away with it because of prize/damage pathing and how they power up. For example, in Charizard ex you can typically expect to attack about three times in a game to get all 6 prizes, and late game you can use radiant Charizard for one energy to clutch up the last prizes, meaning on average you need 5 energy to successfully win a game. Then you up that energy count by 1 assuming that one of those energies gets prized. Without radiant Charizard, zard decks will probably switch to blood moon or just add 1 more energy. *Or switch to dusknoir to help snipe off single prize support Pokemon (which requires 0 energy)

      It's a much more advanced logic behind deck building and this video is meant more for helping players get to the intermediate level. It is a topic that needs addressing though! Thanks for pointing it out

    Okay honestly this video was super informative, I thought it was gonna one of those beginner how to build your first deck videos but it helps people who have been to multiple regionals/ tournaments, thank you a bunch

      That was the goal! I noticed that there wasn't much for intermediate players

    Unless I am mistaken, tech cards are usually cards that aim to help with one specific match up (like drapion V to deal with mew V max). They usually lower consistency overall

      Tech cards can count for multiple matchups, like lost vacuum in decks like zard

    Honestly I’ve been looking for a good tutorial on building a deck and this one was it, it was informative and the furret animations kept my adhd engaged so thank you I’ll finally be able to build a somewhat useable blissey deck that matches my playstyle

    I always loved playing a deck that was based around fishing out magmortar and registeel. It was a blast and dealt huge damage. Not even slightly competition viable im sure, but it was a blast in my younger years.

    This style of video is primed to blow up in this niche and I think it's pretty good too 😃 hopefully there are more to come. I would like to see some examples of what you're talking about, you mentioned Pokestop is a tech card but LZB and Chien Pao both run 3-4 copies of it, essentially making it an engine card. They can afford to do this because they run very thin supporter lines and upwards of 32 items

    Another thing to consider with energy is using items instead of energy like energy search or earthen vessel because they’re searchable

    I'm in the process of building my first deck, and I'm struggling to decide whether to use all the Pokémon I like or cutting the Pokémon count down a little to increase deck consistency. I'm currently sitting at 19 Pokémon, but I'm playing a Magmortar/Electivire combo alongside a few copies of Infernape.
    I only plan on playing casually, but I'd still like to make the deck as viable as possible. This is a very helpful guide that will hopefully assist me in achieving that goal

    • @eonforest4
      @eonforest4  2 місяці тому +1

      Cutting Pokemon can be the toughest part! You'll like the idea and the Pokemon in theory and then it doesn't pan out. It's one of the saddest feelings for me

    • @chiefchimchar
      @chiefchimchar 2 місяці тому

      @@eonforest4 Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I bought the full arts of Magmortar and Electivire from Crown Zenith because I love the art, but I don't think they're going to work as well as something like Camerupt would with the new Infernape that just came out. All I can do is test it and swap them out if it doesn't work out. Worst case, they'll look good on display!

    this of course is a joke and a balance at both is whats important for anyone wanting to compete

    Disagree with your take on tech cards. Some of the ones you mentioned are essential consistency cards for specific archetypes. I.e. tm evo and pokestop. Otherwise nice video

    • @eonforest4
      @eonforest4  2 місяці тому

      fair enough! I think tech cards are a deep enough topic to merit their own video because there's a lot of nuance behind those cards.

      Any cards that got a reprint are legal. Old copies of tools and cards like super rod all automatically get an errata to match the most recent printing. In general, most cards like Pokemon, tools, stadiums, etc, won't be legal. But evergreen cards like switch, energy search, great ball, ultra ball, basic energies, are all playable since they got a legal reprint.

    • @eonforest4
      @eonforest4  Місяць тому

      Running 6 energy is safer just in case one energy is prized. Most decks can most likely operate with only 5 energy, but few can with 4.
