He's Spanish and has a normal regular name that an American mother would have given to him. I seriously doubt a mother who came from Spain would name their child that. It would have been Jose or a different name. You do better to look up better names for characters who came from Spain to have more Spanish sounding names.
The story is too shallow. What's her revenge for? For talking smack about her. Mother and son plotting to secure a house from a relative..what so abnormal about that? There were no nefarious plans. Overheard conversation to sever ties with her so what? A boring story with no plot.
