This is fast becoming my favourite UA-cam channel ever! Clear and concise explanations, good editing and no irritating background music! Thank you FD2S!
Scout04 No I'm not from Australia. Both my first and last names are quite common so chances are there are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of people with the same name around the world! Sorry to dissapoint you!
Would it be possible to do a video on the altitude correction on the approach due to low temperature? How to fly the approach and program the FMC in that case. Thanks for the great job
Recently found out about this channel, I'm not one to usually comment on vids but I feel compelled to say I love your stuff. Especially the little 'meme' touches, haha. Thanks a bunch for taking your time to upload these! Quality!
Excellent. I've been flight siming for 20yrs since my PPL at OMD ( 28 day course ) your commentary raises my experience to a new and realistic level. Thank you. M
Brilliant. Never seen this performed before on any Chanel. Was on a internal flight a few years ago when the fan blade de ice removal was done. Like you say “quite impressive “ Quite a few worried faces on some of the passengers. Well done and please keep up the good work. Regards Steve.
Like aLIeNWaRe pc posted below, it is great to see you on Zibo's forum & to learn you are trying out the X-Plane aircraft. He is right when he suggests the IXEG 737-300 is one to have even though it is retro. Sure, there are still some upgrades to come but in the meantime it's such a fun aircraft even though it does not have the pop up panels as in PMDG. But the guys who spent ages developing the model wanted to keep it as close to the original as possible & it helps you appreciate how far Boeing upgraded the line to the NGX. Zibo's dedication is legendary & he does it for free. I suspect PMDG won't be in a hurry to port their NGX to X-plane if at all, with his mod & the IXEG already performing well. Others are guessing they might bring a B-747-8, or B-777 to the sim instead (if at all). Looking forward to more tutorials. Happy flying
Hi Richard, First time using X-Plane and I think it's much more immersive and it feels much more realistic, especially the environment. I'm looking forward to using the ZIBO 737 for a few tutorials perhaps in the future, I'll generally be using the NGX as it's the most complete product with all the systems pretty much matching its real life counterpart, plus I've pretty much got me head round using it again now! Take care! FD2S
Two months ago I requested that you do this tutorial on Winter Operation. Thanks you for your written comment then and thank you now for the follow-up vid tutorial. Great tutorial as always. Cheers from across the pond v/r Mike
Hey FD2S! Brilliant video one again :) Which method of recognizing what raw data holding entry (direct, tear-drop, parallel) do you recommend to use during airline screenings? The three finger method?
Now you're taking me back! (The Beauty of an FMS is it does it for you!) Yes the three finger method (110 degree/70 degree) would work, try and do it by just looking at the RMI without sticking your hands up, we'd rather you kept those on the control column if flying manually! FD2S
interesting guide and the best channel when it comes to explaining the procedures in 737-800, as for information and procedures, time to test them in simulator: D
Thanks for yet another fantastic tutorial :-) Is there an equivalent video about approaches. About cold temperature altitude corrections. What altitudes to correct and how to work the FMC???
Thanks Kristian! Not sure if cold temp correction and Altimeter error due temperature is correctly modelled. Change all altitudes below the temp corrected MSA, some altitudes don’t need to be changed on RNAV approaches. FD2S
Hi Rolex Kings, glad you enjoyed it! Only minor things which cannot really be accurately simulator in a desktop simulator. (eg Braking Actions, Runway Condition Assessment Matrix (TALPA) and pre-takeoff contamination check (No Snow or Ice builds up with FSX) for example! I included the most important elements of winter operations which you can apply. FD2S
Hi Fly with TB500 Yes I will look into it, I've got a lot of planned videos for the next few months. I need to find out what the community use to calculate T/O performance as I'm very fortunate to be able to access the Boeing OPT EFB which is not available publically. FD2S
flightdeck2sim Sounds good😀 Is it possible to use a table instead of a software and make this table public in the tutorials description? Is this allowed? Anyway am I exited to hear nore videos were planned😀 I think this is also good for you for practising your procesures🤔
I’m afraid I won’t be able to share! I could use some examples in a tutorial but the tables are Airport/Runway/Thrust setting specific Yes the tutorials are fun! Instructing new/line pilots keeps me sharp enough but you never stop learning! FD2S
Firstly, I must say that thank you for your stunning tutorials. Very clear and simple explanation of flying procedures for aviation enthusiasts. All of your tutorials are extremely useful for us, for me at least. I've learned so many things thanks to you. Now I want to ask you something. I am preparing for DLR exams but do not have enough resources to prepare myself properly. If you know useful resources, can you suggest some of them? It can be very useful for me to listen an experienced pilot's advices. :) And the last question is; what should be my mathematics level in order to be a pilot without any issue? Thanks very much again, very interesting and a welcome break from writing reports on a Saturday! I noticed that the take off was taken without taking a backtrack. Using the old adage of one the most useless things is runway behind you, would you not always take advantage of all the available runway?
Hi ghl. When operating out of an Airport like Luton which doesn't have holding points at the threshold of each runway it would be appropriate to plan for an intersection departure performance permitting. Full Length would be used for performance reasons and would perhaps require coordination with ATC due to the time required to backtrack. FD2S
Ok, I undestand. It would be time consuming to backtrack and I guess other pilots would be over the moon to wait I guess. Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it as do thers here of course. I have been trying the Gibraltar westerly landing and finding it very difficult. Have you flown in there? regards gareth
I came across your channel cause I saw your post about zibo's. I'd love to see you in Xplane. Try the IXEG 737-300. You'd love it. Gosh I got a ton of videos from you and gotta see them all! Fantastic job
Another amazing video, always learning with you. Thank you for that, really! Whould it be possible to do a video explaining some emergency situations like engine failure?
hey FD2S great tutorials , have enjoyed them :), quick question, on the NGX QRH on page 354 (i think) is the auto brake stopping distance, could you do a video explain the calculations required, to work out which auto brake setting would be used? i have looked at it and there is a lot of factors that go into it, would be great if you could try and simplify it for me/us? thanks for the videos much appreciated..
Hi there! Thanks a lot! I can look into using the QRH Normal Stopping Distance at some point, we used it everyday before we used OPT to make all the calculations! Essentially we "Brake to Vacate", planning to vacate at the most suitable exit. FD2S
Hello sir, another awesome tutorial! In the PMDG 737 during the descent when the OAT is below 10ºC and there are some clouds I turn on the angine anti-ice and the N1 icreases by quite a bit and I have to use speed brake to manage the speed, does this also happens in the real A/C? Thank you, keep up the good work.
Hi Claudiu I don't know how accurately this is simulated with the NGX, there is an increase as Bleed Air is taken directly from the engine but I couldn’t tell you how much N1 increases in real life, I've never really paid attention to it! There is a decrease in your ROD/Increase of speed in VNAV but I've never considered how this will affect my descent profile. It does make a small difference to your descent of course but it's negligible compared to say a speed change from ATC or a massive shortcut! FD2S
I have a tutorial that would be excellent for us to see. Or at least I think it would. An explanation and tutorial on what and how to work put the isa/dev in the fmc. Everything I find seems to go right over my head.
Hi kristian. Although no dedicated tutorial I have explained how to calculate it in a few tutorials. To find the ISA Temperature on the DES FCST page you need to know what the ISA temperature is at sea level is, it's 15C! If the aerodrome was at sea level and the temperature was 10C the ISA DEV would be -5C. The rule of thumb for every 1000ft you climb the temperature should drop by 2C. So the ISA at 1000ft = 13C, 2000ft= 11C etc. Search "Adiabatic Lapse Rate" to learn more! FD2S
Hi captain thanks for sharing i have 2 question. One is in tutorial you mentioned that below 5 degree u might think the ignition in both position. Your elevation was below 2000 feet. So you told that because of your company procedurs or else ? Second is During the runup are you using the normal brakes or parking brake. Because if parking brake and pusing toga we will sound take of config alert . İf we advance thrust levers to 70 do we still sound that warning. Thanks for sharing your experinces. These are very useful for us as cadet.
So, freezing conditions are when temperature is less than 3 degrees + different criteria (like fog), and icing conditions are at or below 10 degrees + different criteria, if I understand correctly? Would all procedures shown in video be also required in "icing conditions"? For example in 7 degrees Celcius? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Also, do you apply cold temperature altimeter corrections? If yes, to which altitudes (meaning - approach, or departure, DA/MDA or all of them?) THANKS
Hi Konrad, yes that is correct. 7 degrees Celsius would not necessarily be icing if you do not have any associated moisture (snow, rain, fog, clouds etc) Yes we do, when ever the temp is 0 or below every altitude below the MSA has to be changed, there are some exceptions on particular RNAV approaches FD2S
Hi Demon. This should help you regarding NADP Departures, ua-cam.com/video/EnpK42MlolQ/v-deo.html Will look at Takeoff Performance Charts at some point in the future. FD2S
Hello Captain, Q: As told into the video sometimes the de-icing take please near the runway at a special platform. You say that normally the APU is shutdown so I assume no chemicals get into the plane. But how to handle with the engines when you de-icing take place just before or near the runway. I assume you don't shutdown when you arrive but with running engines they press also air into the plane. Also it seem dangerous for the people that must work behind the running engines. I assume you must cut-off some bleed temporarily during the de-ice?
Hi G L, Remote De-Icing with engine running is common at certain airports and yes extra precautions need to taken with engines running! and Yes absolutely right! All APU and Engine Bleed Switches need to be off and can only be placed on one minute after the completion of the de-ice/anti-ice procedure to stop those objectionable fumes from entering the cabin, Take care! FD2S
And during takeoff and landing without snow, rain or sleet but in 10 degrees or below, you would select engine/wing anti ice? On landing, would you turn them on whilst approaching clouds, and turn them off when climbing out of clouds? In the FMC I can select at what altitudes I will be required to use them.
i'd love to see you try X-Plane 11 737-800 with the zibo mod which essentially enhances the aircraft significantly! It's really recommended in the XP community and best of all it's free! I'd just love to see your opinion on it.
Hello, Nice to learn something that nobody seems take care of for the flightsimmers ;) Execelent explaining (again) and you also a very good video producer. Receive the passengers a messages that they have a wait pause from 30 seconds? I can imagine that they are worry if the engines runs and nothing seem to happening. I also find it strange that a 125 million plane don't have a adaptive cruise control on the grond of maybe I'am lazy. Thank you very much again and I prefer your (instruction)videos more then House of Cards (lol) Bye bye
Hi, i need help with the hud. I can't turn it on or at least there is nothing showing on the Display... What do i have to do with the settings on the lower center part in the cockpit?
It's not too bad, I've recently tested X-Plane 11 which "feels" better. The dynamics and how aircraft behave with certain configurations, attitude and thrust settings are pretty close to the real thing, the same with other aircraft I've tried in FSX and flown in real life There are some subtle differences which I always try to bring to your attention but the flight model is pretty sound. FD2S
This is fast becoming my favourite UA-cam channel ever! Clear and concise explanations, good editing and no irritating background music! Thank you FD2S!

Hey man, loving your tutorials they are really helping me get proficient in the sim at the 737.

Hi Tony,
We do not edit or calculate Stab Trim using the FMC by entering the CG here. Foot brakes for that very reason, we don't want the config warning horn to sound!

FD2S
Just a question, shouldn't you take time after the fluid had been applied? In order to know if you exceed the holdover times.
The opposite Ismael! As soon as the fluid is applied we make a note of the start time of the application, HOT starts from then!

One question: Is it right, that reduced takeoff thrust settings are not authorized on runways contaminated with standing water,
snow, slush, or ice ?
Hi Sergej.
We take a reduced derate (24K or 22K) but Assumed Temp prohibited.

Nice vid! thanks for sharing
Thanks Samuel!

Excellent !!!
i'd love to see you try X-Plane 11 737-800 with the zibo mod which essentially enhances the aircraft significantly! It's really recommended in the XP community and best of all it's free! I'd just love to see your opinion on it.
I have installed X Plane 11 but haven't got around to using it yet, will give it a try I promise!

ok ehehe i'll keep checking in for that video lol
Hello, Nice to learn something that nobody seems take care of for the flightsimmers ;) Execelent explaining (again) and you also a very good video producer. Receive the passengers a messages that they have a wait pause from 30 seconds? I can imagine that they are worry if the engines runs and nothing seem to happening.
I also find it strange that a 125 million plane don't have a adaptive cruise control on the grond of maybe I'am lazy.
Thank you very much again and I prefer your (instruction)videos more then House of Cards (lol) Bye bye
Haha, I'm yet to watch that series! Thanks a lot!

Hi, i need help with the hud.
I can't turn it on or at least there is nothing showing on the Display... What do i have to do with the settings on the lower center part in the cockpit?
Hi Maik,
I'm not familiar with the HUD, our fleet are not fitted with the HUD, you'll find guidance in FCOM 2 available from PMDG
FD2S
flightdeck2sim okay... Still thank you and i'll look it up in the manuals

17:28 😂
are the physics realistic in FSX?
It's not too bad, I've recently tested X-Plane 11 which "feels" better. The dynamics and how aircraft behave with certain configurations, attitude and thrust settings are pretty close to the real thing, the same with other aircraft I've tried in FSX and flown in real life
There are some subtle differences which I always try to bring to your attention but the flight model is pretty sound.

Do you turn off the anti ice once you reach -40ºC SAT?
Correct! But in descent whenever the temperature is below 10C TAT/SAT
