Thanks for these videos Pierre. I am enjoying your explanation of it all.
How many holes in the 110mm pipe, how big should they be in diameter. I presume 5mm would be fine. Then also how low down or where exactly do you make these holes?

The holes in the 110 mm must be small enough so that your grow media doesn't fall through. The lower 1/3 will be fine.

Hello pierre i have a problem with my flood and drain resevoir. Hope you can help me . our reservoir has got the dimensions 6 m long 0.8m wide and 0.3m depth and filled with ph neutral lava rock. The water inlet is a 25 mm pipe and the siphon is your explained siphon . both are on the one side of the reservoir. the problem is. reservoir get filled properly the siphon starts to empty the reservoir but the siphon brake at 4 cm of water level on the siphon side but on the end of the 6m reservoir the water level is at 10 cm . after a few minutes the rest of the water levels itself about 7 cm . what can we do to soke the water equal. Greetings

Your problem relates to the resistance of the media to the flow of water. You will have to make physical changes to your system.

top gap you mention 25mm above drainpipe.. why 25? is it to match the inner pipe diameter?

I have found that 25mm worked well for the gap. This was determined by way of experimentation.

The top Gap is measured as a minimum. the Gap is where air escapes to create the suction. If the gap is too small, then not enough suction can be created. But your gap can be 1 meter high, and it will work great.
The water falls in the inner pipe, and covers the innerpipe hole, to trap a bubble of air. pushing the bubble of air down. this creates the suctioning low pressure in the gap.
That is why the 'funnel' is suggested for bell siphons that dont work every time. A larger film of water falling down the edge of the funnel, will be enough to cover the inner pipe's hole and trap some air bubbles.
also, understanding that it is the air-bubbles getting trapped and pushed down, will help you see, why the pump can't be a trickle with this sort of 'simple' bell siphon.

Hi Pierre, waar kan ek daai 25mm bulkhead of "uniseal" koop? Kry dit nie by plekke soos Chamberlains of Builders nie.
