Sunset To Sunrise - Cape Palliser, New Zealand

- This time-lapse is from a recent adventure to Cape Palliser on the SE cape of the North Island of New Zealand. I shot this on the 4-5 Feb 2017, and It’s the longest time-lapse I’ve ever shot with 13 hours of capture from just before sunset, to just after sunrise the next morning.
Once the sun sets, day turns to night and you can see the stars appear. Then finally just after 2am, the Small Magellanic Cloud comes into frame as the Galactic Centre of the Milky Way rises above the horizon before fading out as night becomes day with sunrise.
For the tech specs. The time-lapse was shot over 13 hours with 780 images in total captured. The motion control was done with the Syrp Genie, and I planned out the positioning of the sunset, Milky Way rise and sunrise with the PhotoPills app. I shot it with a Canon 6d and a Zeiss 15mm f/2.8 lens. The exposure ramping as the light changed was controlled by the Timelapse + VIEW.
So beautiful so elegant just looking like a wow

Hey Mark. Great video. What's your recommendation to anyone who usually makes "still" timelapses (photo sequence) with a mirrorless camera and wanna make hiperlapses like you with the same mirrorless camera? Should I buy a Slider and maybe the syrp Genie? Is there any other option available?

excellent job Mark , Did you use the pré-Milvus Zeiss 15mm version ? There was not much wind I presume since the Syrp Genie tends to wobble when the windspeed > 8 m/s . Still I prefere the Genie over the mini for astro lapses, right now my Mini is corrupted due to the latest firmware. Bjorn
Yes this is the pre-Milvus 15mm. Wasn't too much wind that night, but having said that, I've used the Genie in some insanely strong winds. There was certainly some bumps in the time-lapse, but nothing post stabilisation couldn't fix.
"The exposure ramping as the light changed was controlled by the Timelapse + VIEW". What do you mean by "Timelapse + VIEW"? In this scenario I use aperture mode of my camera to control this.
Can I use this for my school purposes?.. To my short video of my spoken word poetry? I will put your name in acknowledgement. Thank you!
Awesome timelapse , how many hours was there that recorded at night ?
Thanks! Probably around 8 hours of night.
Nice bro
* 245 AGAIN! WTH!???* WHAT IS GOING ON!??? 🤯😱😱😱
Why not sunrise to sunset? Just to observe the sun direction
Is this during summer time and facing south?
Early Februrary starting south westerly and finishing to the east.
Very nice. I do time-lapse vids. 🙂
