I feel so sorry for that little boy who lost his whole family. And now has a woman pretending to be his new mom when she's really just trying to have a substitute for her late son.
Jessica Chastain looks so different as a blonde! Also just from the trailers this movie looks sooo good and eerie. I’m going to watch the full thing just to see the performances of Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain because they killed it. The cinematography and set design and soundscape are also AMAZING. It's on purpose, that's how women are still socialized/conditioned to this day. Throughout human history and all over the planet, marginalized groups would rather eat their own than stick together. Women are the heart and glue of this species, but will always be the punching bag in every society, simply because they refuse to commit the atrocities needed to reclaim their throne.

Loved this recap; the detective angle made it so fun to watch! I enjoyed Anne Hathway's incredible performance, no one can do it like her! I wanted to voice my take on this movie and its ending... From the start, Alice always received support from Celine without giving much back, and Celine was always there for her and wanted to support her. But it was clear that even prior to Max's death, there was tension between the two, because their friendship had this unbalanced, one-sidedness to it, and a quiet envy. Celine couldn't have a child, but still tried to support Alice anyway and put her feelings aside; while Alice relied on her emotional support, while having this understanding of Celine's circumstance, without giving much back in terms of that same support. When Max died, the worst thing Celine did was out of grief; she was quietly blaming Alice and began to bond with Theo; as inappropriate as it was, her actions are still understandable. But it was Alice's character that surprised me, as she immediately began putting distance between herself and Celine. Remember, this isn't just some rando woman acting this way, it's her friend. Even though Alice's senses were correct, it still surprised me how fast she was willing to ditch Celine. She saw her having a mental breakdown from a window, saw her faint, and struggle in silence, all kinds of signs her friend needed serious support. But Alice never provided her the emotional support she clearly needed; she only turned jealous and paranoid on her. I get that some people find the ending to be bummer, but it feels more to me a cautionary message, that I interpret to be about one-sided or superficial connections; and how detrimental they are to your collective wellbeing. The second a real tragedy struck; everyone's masks fell. Alice was ready to ditch those career goals, move away with her family, and (to add salt to the wound) have another baby. While Celine tried to keep it together and remain on good terms with Alice; Alice had clearly rejected her, and Celine fired back in this psychotic resentment. Neither of them truly had a real friend in the other. That's what's scary about it. Alice never reciprocated the support Celine had given to her as a friend. Alice's response to the situation wasn't selfless support, communication, and inclusion, it was petty paranoia, jealousy, and rejection. Even when they finally began speaking by the end, it was too late. Alice may have had 'mental issues', but obviously, so did Celine, especially after such a loss. And while Alice was upset that her concerns were ignored by her husband, ironically, she didn't consider the help Celine was clearly signaling that she needed either. And it eventually cascaded over the brink into madness. On Celine's end, she should have recognized Alice and Theo couldn't substitute for actual help, that Alice wasn't the friend she needed, and that she and her husband needed real help during such a period. She clearly had low-key repressed guilt for Max's death and didn't have the right support to cope with his loss, that she thought she had. So, yes, Alice may have been right in the end, but I certainly wouldn't want her as a friend lol. In a zombie apocalypse, she'd be the first to stab you in the back and leave you hanging! Either way good/sad/scary movie, with a cautionary horror ending; I really liked it! Thanks for reading :)
