    I’m excited to add the Evan Moor science for my 6th grader.. I have found that I skip science a lot around here. Having one she can do independently would prob work better for us. Great picks! Thanks for sharing!

    Can I ask what you plan to do with English once she gets to high school? You just won’t finish one level? Is that the idea? I am completely on board with your thinking of not being caught up in the number on the book, but I’m walking out a similar choice and the planner in me is thinking through all the levels

    Glad you’re feeling better. Love the curriculum choices you show. 😊
    Unfortunately I’ve discovered Im not a fan of teaching textbooks after my daughter used it this year. Daughter loved it, it was fun for her (she’s in 6th grade but we were told TT runs a year behind so she did grade 7) . But with only one lesson per school day, like she was supposed to do, she finished the entire thing at the end of March which seemed odd to me. It only had 130 days worth of curriculum. And she ended it not having been taught certain topics she should have been taught. I had to pull in our BJU math 6 that I thought we wouldn’t use (got the grade kit) and she told me the BJU videos (DLO) explain the topics better than the Teaching Textbooks did. So we’re switching to BJU math for 7th because I don’t want her behind.
    I was very surprised and bummed that the course seemed incomplete.

      @aplacetonest 3 роки тому

      I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I've heard people say that it's "behind" but it was actually designed backwards...higher levels first and then working down to lower levels. That was intentional to ensure that no concepts were left out. Either way, I know not all curriculum works for everyone so I hope BJU Press works better for you. We love them, too!

      Here is the cursive workbook: www.christianbook.com/exploring-handwriting-through-u-s-geography/pd/474238 Yes, the very end of BJU Heritage Studies is a geography section but we skipped that since we did our own geography study for North America this year.

    I would love to know how you are going to set up the puberty worksheets with the book for a lesson and what all are you going to include from the TpT, if you will use all the information or just the female ones. I am intrigued. Thank you for sharing and we are using BJU as our core this year with some electives from other places, can't believe I am planning 8th grade.

      I definitely don't plan on showing all of the male anatomy charts right now. It helps that we have a male dog so she already understands that boys are made differently than girls. I know...time goes way too fast, doesn't it?!

    • @aplacetonest

      In 5th grade, I spent about 1-1.5 hours doing school with her and then she would take about another 1-2 hours to complete all of her independent work.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest 3 роки тому +1

      I did a curriculum choices video for 8th grade but after looking back at it, we stopped using most of those things. We started The Good and the Beautiful's language arts program in 9th grade and I like it if your child already has a firm grasp on basic parts of speech and punctuation. I also really like Essentials in Writing. You can use that program on its own or combine it with TGATB, which is what we did. I also love BJU Press English but I haven't used it for the older levels yet so I can't say if I would choose it or not but I do LOVE IT for the younger levels so far!

      We started with several curriculum companies before we ever started using BJU Press, like Teaching Textbooks, and I have no reason to switch over to anything else for those certain subjects. Plus, as much as I love BJU Press, I don't think it's necessary to pay the higher price to use them for each subject when there are less expensive options that work just as well.
