I wish more Christian artists would do songs in this genre. It's one of my favorites! There's a lot who do Nu Disco (70's disco style) and 90's pop style, but for some reason it's rare to find Christian artists in the 80's synthwave scene :C

Probably because most evangelical leaders consider "Jesus Culture" to be part of a cult. Which, of course, is a bunch of beligerent nonsense.
God chooses his instruments, and I'm confident he's chosen Chris Quilala and his "Jesus Culture" bandmates to accomplish his purpose.

ronforeman I don't know any evangelical leaders that think that and I know MANY, personally, from many denominations. I hear their songs in their services, at least. Believe me, I can name more leaders than you possibly know, and I'm sure there are some, but they've never told me. Those who do are none enough to warrant you saying "most." Your comment is completely misleading. Take my word for it. That is crazy. Jesus Culture is a band. They operate in a little thing we call, church. Church isn't a cult, and the government determines what is a legal cult. Problem is, they won't bow their knee to the main music labels that promote the standard radio Christian artists. Weird thing is, some cliques will hate on Jesus Culture, but bow down their radio heros like Switchfoot, Lacrae, or the average Christian metal band who dresses like the devil. Hypocritical? There are also many churches who stay away from most modern music anyway. Fair enough, but in conclusion, continuing to talk about them in these terrible terms only furthers the nonsense, so further commenting or input is not needed. What I know is I've never came into contact with anything "cultic" from any Jesus Culture event or product in 8 years of following Jesus Culture. Let's hope it stays that way.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of Jesus Culture. But there ARE voices out there in the evangelical community that condemn both the band and its origins at Bethel Church as heretical. I don't agree with the critics, but I can't pretend they aren't out there. E.g.
