There is a significant lack of meritocracy in medical exams. The unregulated and exorbitant fees charged by deemed universities, private colleges, and semi government medical colleges must be addressed.
Currently, a student with just qualifying marks ( say 130 out if 720) can secure a seat in a private medical college if they can afford it, while another student with 600 marks may be unable to pursue medical education due to financial constraints.
This means that a student with a rank of 10 lakhs can get into a medical college, while one with a rank of 40,000 cannot, simply because of the cost involved.
It is alarming that 43% of medical seats in India seem to be reserved for the wealthiest 2% of families including NRIs, and government medical seats have up to 65% category wise reservations.
Unless the government regulates fees across all medical institutions, issues like coaching dependency and exam paper leaks will continue to thrive, despite any new laws or measures introduced by the administration to address this chaos.
Increasing in medical seats and college will not be effective unless fee is regulated across the board!
