OMG! So thankful to find your channel. Finally a travel creator with actual useful information. I appreciate intelligence and research with data. So sick of the endless themes around how to pick up young women and where to party. Keep up the great work.
Actually it's not retiring, only looking for a wife who will cook a maid to take care at same time an exploitation of weaker peoples they can't do in firs wold countries, that's it the reality
@@garizonmann1284 Oh wow you a victim. Must be a Thai one though because most Filipino children can speak, write, and make a more comprehensive sentence than you. English is definitely not your first language.
I'm married to a Filipina now for 16 years. When we were courting, I took her to Thailand and she absolutely fell in love with the place. We will retire in two years in Thailand. This is where her heart is. So why not have the best of both worlds? Marry a Filipina and live in Thailand. She'll love it. You are only 3 hours from Phils if you want to go back and visit. Win/win in my book.
I prefer the Philippines because it was the first country outside the United States & Canada that I got to see the interior. I met my late wife of 31 years in the Philippines on January 16,1975 when I was 21 in the U.S.Navy on my fifth Navy cruise which was my first Westpac cruise. I married my late wife after I got stationed in the Philippines. My late wife & I had 3 children during our marriage. She passed away on March 6,2010 in Tucson,AZ. My late wife is, was and will always be the true loves of my life. If I were to move outside the United States, I would move to the Philippines.
What a true love story and thank you for your service. I'm Filipino but married to an American woman. But we both love the Philippines and our kids do too. We would love to go back
If I had to buy in Thailand or the Philippines, then I would agree as the currency exchange along with better options on resale options tend to lean towards a lot of places outside of Manila in the areas where tourists go on vacation. If I had more options, I'd seriously consider Japan as your investment would be more secure if the property is in a high demand area where local buyers would be more likely to buy than tourists.
Lets put it this way. If your a foreigner and an introvert. You can easily choose thailand coz you don't feel the need to surround yourself with that many people. But if you're outgoing and wants to build connections and perhaps a career, then go to the Philippines. You can easily make friends here. Only advice I can give is that choose what makes you happy. If you're happy with the people around you then its great. If fancy stuff gives you happiness then its amazing. But at the end of the day Your fancy house or car can't talk back to you. I'd rather live in poverty surrounded by people whom I can interact with rather than live a luxurious life alone.
Damn I'm a filipino while we are glad you guys love the people in my country, I also hope we can see this country improve and rise out of poverty and corruption, and build great infrastructure.
I am NOT a city person and it seems Thailand is more for CITY folks that love the hustle and bustle. Yes, I am more introverted and love my alone time and the peace and quiet of the countryside, mountains or beaches. I love to sail and fish so based on your description I would be better off in the Philippines with a more laid back and friendly atmosphere.
MY brother long time partner is a Filipina and she is one of the nicest sweetest person I have ever met, also extremely hard working even though they are not married she treats him like a King. So yes I want to visit the Philippines because of her.
The wife of a friend of mine meanwhile has a gambling addiction and does not even want to learn his language, despite living in his country now. I guess some people are winners and some not.
I've lived in Taiwan for almost 30 years, and am from Canada. I have travelled quite a lot in Thailand, and thoroughly through Philippines. This was a great run-down, generally. I'd suggest that Cost of Living is MUCH cheaper in Philippines, when utilizing grocery and hardware stores (general living), while you compared more like restaurant meals, for example. Philippines takes the cake, EASILY, if you're prepared to cook for yourself, or even have that "special someone" you've found cook for you; either way, both in home and going out are cheaper in Philippines, but day to day living is WAY cheaper. As for Safety, I think something you overlooked was the crime in each country towards people LIVING there, or just travelling there (which can include WHY and WHERE they're travelling. I've found myself generally feeling safe in both countries, but... A - As a fit white male, I'm not too scared walking down a street in the middle of the night, as I might be if I was either less fit, or a woman; as well, I suspect it works both ways, in that people who want to commit crime are going to look for the weaker targets, so... Our personal experience isn't always an accurate indicator. B - Another safety concern is being able to 'CALL FOR HELP', and here, Philippines, due to English speaking community (*but don't be swayed by that argument EVERYWHERE! There are MANY Filipinos whose English if VERY POOR to NON EXISTANT! This is primarily found in the far reaching Provinces, of course... "English being a National Language" is a bit misleading in that respect). If you need help, anything from a lost bag, to getting something stolen, etc., it's going to be a lot easier to get help in Philippines, for this reason. That's going to make your at least FEEL more safe, and sometimes that can be as important as the reality. Both countries have their share of impoverished people, and so crime exists, a lot, especially on the petty-street robbery / swindling / money-changing / added-costs levels... If you're smart, and act safely, however, then I have rarely had a problem in either country; and when I have, authorities have been generally happy to help, as the government (as well as a large percentage of the public) know that tourism is A SIGNIFICANT SOURCE OF INCOME for EVERYONE there, and will generally "protect" 'tourists' from such swindlers. And a benefit being who you are, allows for most people to FOREVER consider you a 'tourist', no matter how long you live there. (I'm still just "a foreigner" to most Taiwanese, and often treated as such, despite my living here for close to 30 years! Only the closest people around you, or the people of a village / town, get to know you're actually a resident!) Lastly, I'll have to HIGHLY recommend Philippines over Thailand for the beaches / water sports / outdoors activities generally. The main reason is, there are some great destinations in Thailand, but most are well know, well populated by locals, and... LOOK at the tourism numbers you listed in the video!!! There are just SO MANY MORE people going to these places, creating everything from cost increases (I found scuba diving prices in Thailand resort areas 3~4 TIMES THE COST $$$$$$$ than in Philippines), and there are COUNTLESS places to get away from EVERYONE in Philippines, compared to Thailand, and still be comfortable. Maybe it takes a little more travel, but compared to what travel you'd have to do to find similarly remote and sparsely populated locations in Thailand, it's really not. Anyway, not trying to be 'critical', but rather, adding to your information. Great video otherwise, given the time you had to go into all the subjects. Cheers!
From what I read about Thailand, is that you can own or buy land there. And trying to start a business there is outrageous due that you need a Thai partner, and they get 51% of the business right from the start. This is a big no, and a good way to go broke in no time.
You can but land in Thailand but you don't own it. Only Thai citizens can own land. Buying and owning is two different things. That is a scam many expats fall into buying land for their girl friend or new wife only to find out that in either case the one who really owns the land is the girl friend or wife. Which many will dump you shortly after you buy the land. however you can buy and own a condo because that is not considered land ownership.@@mfayant
@@mfayant Did you mean you "can't" own or buy? And yeah a lot of Thai laws seem very hostile to foreigners in that way from what I've heard. I've heard of Thai wives scamming their foreign husbands and kicking them out, since after the house is bought the wife as a Thai citizen basically owns it even if the foreigner paid for it. Not sure at all how it is in Philippines or if it's any better there though.
I've found the cost of hotels and guest houses less expensive in Thailand than in the Philippines. Cost of food is slightly more than in the PI, not many times more expensive as you imply. But the food in Thailand is easily 50x better. Philippines has the worst cuisine of any country I have ever visited (that's around 55 countries so far), and the main alternative is fast food, which is also crap.
Nice content. Me and my partner would want to retire soon, and we choose Philippines specifically Davao City. We are contented with the following: 1. White sand beaches in the nearby islands just 10 minutes to 1 hour boat ride from Davao City. 2. We can afford to live comfortably in a nice 24 hour guarded subdivision. 3. Cost of living suits our budget. 4. Safer place. 5. We don't need to spend $50 for a seafood...Seafoods here are a lot cheaper than other highly urbanized areas and in your 500 pesos, you can already buy mix seafoods in the public market. 6. Davao city is a booming metropolis, new restaurants that also cater international cuisine have built up. We also eat outside sometimes and try new restaurants. 7. Beaches and beaches and beaches....white sand beaches in many islands are just endless. 8. The nearby Bukidnon offers breathtaking mountain sceneries and resorts...so we also go for road trip. We couldn't ask for more. Infrastructure is improving here, so it is now more convenient for road trips. 9. Medical services are good (in which, Filipino medical staff are globally known for). We have our health insurance that are accredited to all hospitals here, and the staff speak English from the guard to the Doctors. 🙂😉 10. Simple life but comfortable, Urban life but laid-back, modern structures and amenities here but still, the beauty of nature surround it. Been in Thailand too, but I love there for shopping and food only. :-)
I agree completely, life in the Philippines is so much more peaceful and laid back. The people are way more friendly and accommodating, they smile and respect older folks. I love the mountains and the beaches and the fact that if I want to go a resort I can and it wont break the bank. Its a matter of finding the best mix of infrastructure and freedom. I love the beaches, the fresh air and going boating and fishing.
I agree with you 150%. Mindanao is the best island. Big enough to explore except for SW peninsula. Still some muslim tensions. But majority of the island is safe and unbelivably beatiful. Enjoy it there. Really good choice.
I’ve spent a lot of time over the last 18 years in the Philippines and a few months in Thailand over the last few years. I think living in the Philippines and taking trips to Thailand once or twice a year for a month at a time would be the ideal retirement for me. I like that the Philippines isn’t so structured around tourism and feels more like home if that makes sense. Thailand feels like you’re constantly on vacation which is only good for so long. Thai food is better and the hotels are cheaper. The Filipinos are generally more open and happy you are in their country. Dating in the two countries is where I noticed a HUGE difference!! The women in the Philippines want to be loved in every sense of the word. Thai women tend to look at status, the way you dress and how much you’re willing to spend as a deal breaker. Thai women are not so different than women of the West if you are trying to avoid that situation. I prefer the Philippines options for peaceful trips to remote islands. If you have more money or are going for a shorter stay like 2 weeks or less I would choose Thailand hands down. The food and transportation is a clear winner and you’re more likely just there for fun not to find love.
How does the money exchange value compare to the dollar? Every American dollar worth more in these 2 countries? Is there a steady increase or a serious decline?
I have been here since 2005 and I agree. Inexpensive, the food is great, fresh food at the markets, polite and kind people. No harassment unless you're late with your rent. Even they will try and help you out.
though I have a home in the Philippines, it's much cleaner in Thailand as Thais don't litter and unlike the Philippines you don't constantly see men peeing in public along the roads.
@@LawrenceWeber-z5o I live in Thailand and there are loads of trash in places and men do pee on the side of the road at times. I still like Thailand though, peaceful, and quiet
My heart is with the Philippines idc how much better the food or infastructure is in Thailand. The kindness and warmness of Filipinos is legendary. To me a country is nothing without its people. And as far as the people are concerned noone on Earth can compare to Filipinos...period. Mahal ko ang Pilipinas 🇵🇭💪😊
I'm not sure what Philippines you went to, but the PH I went to lacked what I equated with love in the west. I was hoping to meet a girl with empathy not narcissism. A girl who brought contraception not babies to the table. A girl who was worldly and valued self-actualization over religion and family. My wallet got a lot of attention and I was told money = love; but that's not the "romantic love" I experienced back home in college.
@@bobbruce4135 I have been to both countries and from my experience your chances of finding what you describe are substantially higher in Thailand, especially in Bangkok. In the Philippines most women I met see me as a way out of poverty and that is it. In Bangkok most women I met have a proper job, make enough money to travel on their own etc. and genuinely look for a partner in life, not a ticket out of poverty, because they are already out of it. Also Bangkok is a proper city with meetup events and where you can pursue various interests and hobbies ( way more than Manila ). Do that and you meet good women there. I met great women at board game meetups, libraries, language exchange meetups, conventions etc. Your chances to find this are even higher in Kuala Lumpur, where I currently am. Educated, intelligent, well travelled women with money in the bank galore here. Oh and basically everyone speaks English here. Cheers and good luck.
I have been traveling to or living in SE Asia for over 33 years. Each country has its advantages. Food and healthcare, Thailand, beaches, natural beauty of the country, Philippines over Thailand. I have lived in both countries' and can say for expats that have places in both Thailand and the Philippines', all pick the Philippines as their primary residence. I live in and prefer Bali Indonesia over both. Why: Cost of living, a lot better retirement visa options, and I am a surfer and Indonesia has far better surf than the other two countries. Indonesia matches the beauty overall of the Philippines and both exceed Thailand. I travel to the 3 countries and enjoy all for different reasons. As far as friendliness, the Philippines is by far the winner.
Sadly at my age, I quickly lose my balance now. I'm into mild surfing and diving. I will visit countries in SEA for the same but planning to retire either in Philippines or Thailand.
Three reasons Thailand would be better than the Phils. 1. Access to Health Care. 2. Quality of Food. 3. Infrastructure. Note babes are everywhere in both countries. Both have excellent beach environments. This video nails it.
Communication is a big problen. Speaking English is understandable but they can't even understand a single English word like 90% of Thais don't know English.
I like the idea of finding a Filipina and retiring in Thailand, especially as I spent more time in Thailand and find the access to health care very affordable and easy, especially just going to the pharmacy, skipping the need to see a Dr for basic colds. Also like the variety of food, from street vendors to expats restaurants. Haven't been to PI so I am a bit biased.
I'm exploring the Philippines now after spending 9 months in Thailand. In the end which is better seems to depend on what type of person the retired person is. You appear really on point with your assessments.
Thank you for sharing your personal experience! I couldn't agree more; the "best" destination is incredibly subjective and can vary based on individual preferences, lifestyle, and priorities.

Condos for rent in Thailand are more than just rooms that are worth the price. There is also a swimming pool, fitness center, sports field, gardens, spa, some with sauna rooms. @@สุทธิศักดิ์มธุรพงศากุล you are absolutely correct. At the condo where I stayed it was $200 a month with all the amenities you mentioned plus 24/7 security guard in each building.
The negative side you have pointed out about the Philippines are due to the government's gross negligence. I'm a Filipino and all of us here know that Thailand is among the top 3 nation in Southeast Asia thanks to its good governance. i just hope that our country can follow up with all the progress going on in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
I agree what put me off about the Philippines is the lack of infrastructure downtown manilla in particular the place needs a good scrubbing. Chinese investors
Not only infrastructure but also the lack of history particularly in the capital city of Manila. Unlike other Asian capitals, there are abundance of temples, museums, historical places that very much define the country. Manila on the other hand, a mall is the highlight.
Great review. I'm just at the part where you speak about dental care and hospitals. Well I was a flight attendant for thirty years and whenever I needed something done with my teeth... I did it in Thailand. I'm Dutch and the dentists in my country, where I lived just sucked. Never liked their attitude. I never suffered any pain in Thailand and though I paid myself, it was cheap enough to do so. During the years I worked I also, if possible, had my hair cut in Thailand and I bought my clothes there. Having three days off in Bangkok I was often busy doing those things... now I live in Thailand, already since the end of 2012.
Your reply is based on your own assumption on what he meant as there was nothing mentioned nor implied that one country was better than another nor that he was is some way superior because he spoke English.@@luxuryseaviewvillas6744
@@luxuryseaviewvillas6744he didn't ask people to bend over. And he didn't expect that. He just commented how was the language experience in both countries. You need to learn how to read.
One of the primary reasons why I chose the Philippines because the people are genuine compared to those who are more concerned about the flow of cash from the ATM/wallet. I have been an expat for 18 years, and have had experiences in both places. Another reason is the language is written and spoken in English (as well as Tagalog - the Filipino language). Acquiring property is easier in the Philippines. Thailand is nice and some things are superior, but Integrity is paramount - I need to know I am supported even when I am not watching.
I don't know when this vlog was made. Talking about internet. Starlink is already available in the country since early this year. Internet speed in the philippines has improved a lot compared a couple of years ago. My PLDT plan of 1699/month which started about two years ago was for 35Mpbs only. Now, it is already for 200Mbps. But what will surprise you is, I'm actually getting 400+Mbps download and 900+Mbps upload.
I have been to both and I find Thailand much cheaper to live in than the Philippines and I have never had a Visa problem in Thailand i renew my retirement Visa ever yr and never have a problem
Thailand is cheaper. Philippines rent is too high. People want to be rich over night. Thai people are not opportunistic. Even if so many tourist, they still have cheap apartments
I've never been to the Philippines but I went to Thailand in 1999 to learn Thai massage and fell in love with everything. I retired to Bangkok four yeas ago and never had the tiniest regret. I live far from the tourist areas so I am treated as a privileged minority. Thais have the lowest English proficiency in ASEAN but I have English-speaking friends and learned some basic Thai that lets me find things. I walked into my nearby private hospital and complained of chest pain. Within a half hour, I was in the catheter room being readied for balloon angioplasty. The total out-of-pocket bill, including 4 days in private room, was $6,050.00. It would have been half that at a government hospital but that was 30 minutes away by taxi. (Bangkok has the cheapest taxis on the planet) A visit to my heart doctor costs less than $30 including bloodwork. 500 MB fiber internet is $18/mo. Thailand is known as the "Supermarket to the World" so the food is fresh and plentiful. There is two things I would say to contrast the Philippines and Thiland: First, there are no hurricanes/typhoons in Thailand and I read where the Philippines get hit regularly, and second, the population of Thailand is just under 70 million compared to almost 111 million in the Philippines and Thailand is 71% larger so there is much more empty land in Thailand.
You know why no typhoons in Thailand? Because the Philippines acts as a barrier to all its SE Asian naybours 😅 so they can have steady downpours w/o the winds😅
Philippines island is over 7000 7641 to be exact. While thailand island is only 1000 islands. Correct me if im wrong about the numbers of islands in thailand. Filipinos are hospitable and friendly and easy to talk to.
I've been to the Philippines (4 times) and I have had the greatest experience there. It is no exaggeration that they are very welcoming. I have never felt more welcome anywhere else in my entire life. There are a few things I would like to point out: 1. It's not a big deal that Thailand has 40+ world class hospitals and Philippines only has 4. If you get sick, you will only need one. I went to the hospital on my first visit there and it was actually a better experience than going to the hospital in the US. It was a private hospital but the cost was 1/10 what I would have paid in the US. Also, they had way more staff (nurses), than a US hospital to take care of patients. I basically had my own nurse. 2. The internet and electrical grid there sucks fat donkey sack. There's not much else to say about it. I spent most of my time in the province though, in places where there was no electricity or internet. I loved it and I blended right in with the locals, taking cold showers outside in my clothes, squatting around a large community bowl of rice and fish and eating with my hands, and making two hour treks on foot up the side of a mountain to go into town to buy supplies. Oh yeah, I was roughing it in the Phils baby. 3. If you decide to stay long term (months at a time like I did or longer) you could actually live there rent free. I met people there that really liked me and I was invited to stay in their homes for the entire duration of my stay. I pitched in and helped with chores and bought food but no one ever ask me for anything in return for staying there. They were absolutely thrilled that I was there and everyone in the village was super kind and treated me with respect. Out of the four trips I have taken there (a total of 12 months in the Philippines), I spent $0 for room and board. I spent money but it went to the people i was staying with, buying food and supplies. I've never been to Thailand, so I'm not familiar with the culture. But I can tell you this from experience, if you don't mind the crappy electrical and internet, go to the Philippines. You will meet the most amazing people that you have ever met. Especially in the provinces. God bless the Philippines.
This was the best review I've ever seen, I've lived in Thailand for many years and loved it but eventually I got so fed up with the visa rules and the condescending attitude of Thai people in general, I'm actually fluent in Thai and had a Thai driver's license when I lived there, but I was always treated as a man of the West anyway. I then moved to the Philippines and this was and became the land of smiles for me, everything was so much easier here, when you are a retired man who wants to relax and avoid stress and hassle then you move to the Philippines. And everything is cheaper here too. For me this meant little as I have enough money, I lived centrally in Makati and shopped what I wanted. But many times I should have wished that I traveled out to the Islands. Now I live in my home country with my 25 years younger than me Filipina wife and we had a daughter during covid so now we stay here as I want her to grow up here, so my traveling days are over but I wish everyone a good trip and travel to the Philippines it is 10 times better
Now I don't know if you are Thai or where you come from? But I'm from Norway and we just don't treat foreign people the way Thais do, they look down on us and they're distinctly racist, everyone sees men from the west as sex buyers, I lived in the country outside Udon Thani, i hate pattaya and all it stands for, i have never bought a lady in my life and will never do anything like that. And when I say I speak the language Thai fluently, I mean it just as well as the 6 other languages I also speak fluently, And despite this, I have never been treated badly in the other 6 countries that I speak. Thais just ignore you completely when you speak to them in their own language if they don't want anything to do with you and most do Mate, But you know so much more than me about this don't you? After all, I've only lived there for many years and you probably have 10 times more experience than me, don't you?
i have lived in both countries, but picked the Philippines, where i found the love of my life and happily together for almost a decade. the ol saying played true for me " go to Thailand for many girls, and amazing experiences, go to the Philippines to find one girl, and i did. btw we now have starlink, at an amazing low price. we travel by boat throughout the country and are connected with high speed everywhere now,
I spent 5 years visiting Thailand before venturing over to the PI ...and then spent the next 5 years traveling there. Your comparisons are spot-on and would make Thailand the choice for anyone. However, I find your personal rating on the beaches and VISA amusingly skewed that reveal your bias, which, hey! We all have them. I have them as well, which is why my choice would be the PI. I would only add that while I agree with all the scores (and even your biased ones), the one point I would like to make is that the English language component in the PI carries a LOT of weight for me ...and frankly, is THE determining factor. The ease of which to communicate in the PI versus Thailand is HUGE, and it is a day-in, day-out, constant factor. Medical/Health Services is also another category that carries a lot more weight than others. But Safety is too close a call, and things like Beaches and Culture are not as weighty, and it's splitting hairs when both are gorgeous and fascinating. Loved you exercise, though. Well done!
Your reactions are as sharp as mine. I fully agree on most of the comparisons and the pros n cons discussed between these two countries but same with ur analysis, tho the author may seem to say he was RIGHT FAIR & SQUARE, I did still find some biasness on the way he delved the comparisons. Category 2 BEACHES & ISLANDS, he hands down said Philippines wins in this category globally but for him he picked Thailand. The category was solely BEACHES & ISLANDS ( not accomodation n ease of transport as it has a different category later ) and yet he really didn’t highlight the endless abundance of magnificent pristine n turquoise waters of the Philippines but rather mention the lack of good accommodations n amenities there and he focussed more on the Thai aspects. I’ve been to both n there’s no way u can compare the beauty of Thai beaches to Philippine beaches yes Krabi was stunning but we’re talking on the general aspect BEACHES & ISLANDS. Most Thai beaches are murky n only few with immmaculate condition. He also didnt highlight that Philippine beaches have recently won awards n notices by many international globe trotting travel magazines etc like Conde Nas and Philippine beaches are predominantly mentioned and winning. But hey in the food category the author easily jumped to Thai world renowned recognitions and awards barely mentioning one aspect of Philippine cuisine it sounded so bad n nowhere near to Thai food quality. With regards to safety, ease and comfort he didn’t really highlight the rampant SCAMMING TRAPS happening in Thailand particularly in touristy places like Phuket and the Grand Palace area. I was scammed there the very first time I went to Thailand and now in UA-cam a lot of NEW scamming techniques are in exposes’! I get it this a comparison and the author is obviously pro Thailand but this could have been more balanced and transparent. Just saying!
I'm sure I would. However, at 69 years old I want to spend my remaining time doing other things. Like traveling, for example. But I don't want to have to learn the languages of all the countries I still want to see. Your point is a good one; just not for me.
Ive been in Thailand for the last 2 years and just got the retirement visa. Ive tried Kamala, Rawai, Chiang Mai and now Hua Hin. The language barrier definitely makes things difficult with normal working class Thai women who are attractive. The tourism has also been overwhelmed recently by various countries that arent really the friendliest, and in Phuket is now 50% of the population during peak season. As a 50 year old single guy from the US, Im finding a good kind loving Thai woman has its challenges as well, so many hurdles its wearing me out. Bar girls are a waste of time....fun when you just arrive but not for LTR. Im seriously considering in the 3 hour flight over to PL however I m not sure where to land. Mactan Newton, IT park, Boraqcay, Bohol? IDK. Dating and the ocean is priority. Any suggestions?

Thailand has better beach infrastructure by far. Thailand has better overall food, but the Philippines has gems of food if you know where to look for it such as bamboo shoots and dried fish (or shrimp) in coconut milk. Or the Bicol express dish. Philippines is less expensive but the hassle and noise factors far outweigh the savings by country mile. Philippines is place to go if you want to rough it and have a very raw (and often annoying) experience with locals who are extremely communicative and jokers. Philippines healthcare is horrific based on my horrible experience (some people disagree with me). Starlink is already available in the Philippines.
@@johnpatrickmanansala4730 I did not write ‘better beach.’ Can you read? I wrote better beach ‘infrastructure.’ Facts. You need to stop handing your mobile phone to your 5 year old.

Thailand is a bit more technically advanced. A country made up of thousands if islands will always have issues. There is something magical about the smiling faces of the people of the Philippines. For functional countries Thailand is more functional. It will cost you a bit more. Catholic vs buddhist cultures also has a major impact.
This is actually nice. The lesser the tourist the lesser our country Philippines will be polluted. We as natives wanted our beaches and nature reserves more regulated and preserve for future generation. We have our own problems with the locals so we don't want more foreigners to add. Thailand is richer so that's not a wonder or a contest for first class infrastructures. Thailand is also catching up with English language and they have more first-class beaches accomodation than our humble local accomodation, we don't stand a chance when compared. As we have been exploited by many western countries before, we just wanted a peaceful country now and rebuilding our new own identity as we lost so much in the previous colonizations.
In history the president of the United States once quoted that the philippines is the Pearl of Asia. The philippines during the world wars was torn apart there paradise was but almost destroyed, unlike Thailand. They didn't go through what the philippines did. In Thailand all tourist are looked at as only ATM machines period, more english speaking in philippines, better currentcy exchange in philippines, better visa options, more honesty and trustworthy women in philippines, better food also like lumpia, chicken adobe, thai food way to spicy.
@@BigSirrRob1959-sg5ld That's funny, but what is correct is that Thailand has its own culture because it was never colonized. The Philippines on the other hand have been a Spanish colony for hundreds of years and an American colony for 80, I believe. They practically don't have their own culture - maybe that's why so many Westerners love it there. It's like an American state.

The video is about retirement. If you are over 50 and meet the financial requirements you can easily retire in Thailand indefinitely. Visa extensions are done yearly.
Same here. I don't understand why thailand doesn't want us. We, even the poor europeans, have from x2 to x3 the salary of the locals there. So By putting such barrier, a man from occident that earn from 500-800 $ CAN'T live in Thailand due to their visa system ? It's a total non-sense
@@michelcecere7286 In the past foreigners were encouraged to stay, visa runs were easy and you could have as many Tourist visas as you wanted - I had to get a new Passport got filled up with Tourist visas, not you are only allowed 3 to 4 a year before you have to leave Thailand to another country, usually your own to come back. Go to Laos, Cambodia, or Vietnam. The govt doesn't seem to understand that it is the tourists that fuel their economy. Just let tourists come and stay indefinitely and get as many tourist visas as they want. Their economy will do quite well.
@@55Quirll yes, and so indeed I would better go in Philippines than in Thailand only for a question of visa. Basically Thailand will loose from 500-800 per month, for about 3 year ( +/- 25.000 ). Great job!
As a retired Canadian living in Thailand I agree with your choices in all aspect. But Phillipinnes is my choice for short holiday outside Thailand and enjoy a different living style. Sadly in Philippines hospital you have to be with someone as they want you to go buy medication yourself before treatment . A nightmare if you are hospitalised alone.
I agree. When I got here in 2005 Visa runs were the norm, you could get a Non-b - from you school you were working at, and they would help you with getting it. Now you need an Education Diploma, either from your country or you can try and get one here and then take a test for a Thai Teaching license. Before all you needed was a Degree from an accredited school from your country. That has changed now which is sad.If you want a Retirement visa but you don't meet the financial requirements there are Visa agencies that will help you. I use a Visa agency that charges 25,000 baht a year for a Retirement visa and they also do the 90-day reporting if you want.
Yes, this is the main problem. They only want the rich to retire there. This happened after the coup. Thailand was wide open and much more flexible before.
The visa issues are a major problem. This is related to Thailand's unstable government and poor military. The Philippines has a more stable government and they have the full support of the US Military with at least 4 military bases.
@@MichaelBuck The bad part is when the US military finally leaves, and they will. I don't care for Duarte, don't care for the Thai Military or politicians, both are corrupt. Philippines have 7,200+ beautiful islands. One of their island was voted best beach in the world two consecutive years beating Hawaii. People in the Philippines have huge number of Miss Universe. They are beauty and brain. They prefer to have degree even if they have to spend money. One third caring nurses in the world are from Philippines. They speak fluent in English. well, it because Philippines does not legalized prostitution. I appreciated your comments towards our country. There are lots of ongoing projects all around the Philippines including the transport, transport system, bridges, buildings/infrastructures, cities, villas, sub division, and etc., for the past years.
One thing you neglected in the food category is that normal Thai food (the food that Thai's eat all the time) is laced with sugar and salt. It is quite common to see on the table little jars of sugar and Nam Pla (very salty liquid) and the Thais smother their food in both. There is already salt and sugar added while cooking. That being said in the Philippines portions tend to be American in size. IMHO it is not fair to compare top eateries with what the common people eat.
Never had a problem with salt or sugar in Thailand. But the kind of places I ate in are like Terminal 21. In Philippines, we spent lots of money on whole lechon + side dishes and such, so I do not see how it ain't being fair to compare. When I bought food locally, I always had diarrhea from the sad excuse of oil they have. Took me a while to figure out but when I narrowed it down to the eggs, I nailed it when I checked where they got the oil. When I saw most is sold in plastic bags, I thought no wonder. Most likely filtered old/bad oil.

I am a Filipino from the Philippines. Been in Thailand as a tourist so many times like every year, every summer time. Been there from north to south.. I love Thailand and I want to live there.
Good luck :-) And I agree, I find Thailand more open minded. Many Filipinos are narrow minded due to their Catholic upbringing that many of them never question.
@@dbuck1964 it is accurate. I lived in the Philippines from 1990 to 2020, nearly half of my life. It is not just the quality of the hardware, but the noise as well. You can actually find quiet accommodations in Thailand if you try. It is extremely challenging to find and maintain any certainty over your noise space in the Philippines. And fuhgeddaboudit if you want to be close to a decent gym and whatnot. You can luck out, but it is extremely difficult to arrange.
Just compare Philippines' skyscrapers and Thailand skyscrapers and you can see how Thailand wins this easily. Better designs at lower prices. They're also in more locations in Thailand -- Bangkok, Bang Lamung, Phuket whereas in Philippines, it's mostly just in Makati, Taguig at Pasig cities -- all within 1 metro. They are building in Mactan but they are nowhere close to Thai designs which to me are world class.
@@bigradwolf5001 And no where does the Philippines have the gorgeous beach road of Pattaya lined with affordable, luxury condos. Philippines is more for a cowboy vacation when you want to rough it and end up in places where you are the only foreigner off the beaten path.

Language is not an issue for staying or dating in Thailand. Many westerners who married Thais can tell you about it. Numbers of expats and travelers who are in Thailand are much greater than in the Philippines. The reasons are food, accommodations, infrastructure, and transportation. These things will make life a lot easier.
I spent A LOT of time in Philippines and Thailand working, living, vacationing. I would have to say, Thailand is MUCH safer. But, so many Filipinos speak really good English, and that was a big plus. All in all, both countries and the people are wonderful. 40+ years ago, I stole the best thing the Philippines had to offer, MY WIFE! 🥰Peace
Why is it that we always hear stories about major crimes being committed against Westerners in Thailand, yet we rarely hear any such stories from the Philippines?
Real different comes from beliefs of Catholic vs Buddhist ! I prefer the Buddhist laws of karma, which can't be forgiven with money given to a church. ¡ please, think about the difference. Lived in both and love them both, for different reasons.
@@mauimixer6040 Hi... I'm agnostic. I was constantly scammed in the PH, some very nefarious. I was told money = love. I found no exceptions and tried dating many (not from bars). Is Thailand just as bad? I was able to date girls in the West who were enthusiastic, never an STD's, no babies, etc. Where is that in the Far East?
What country has the most friendly people who speak English, the most beautiful women, the most amazing beaches, and the best visas? I'll take the Philippines all day long.
Which island? The ones I saw, there was tons of garbage and broken glass, also remove all the make up and pushup bras then you can tell if there is beauty or just artificial deception, no matter which place on earth.
The wide use of English all over the country does make communications easier in the Philippines. That said a young woman speaking Thai is cute and sexy it's just a more difficult language to learn. Incredible review! I think you nailed it. Funny thing is that I was actually debating this in my mind. Though I am half Filipino, and my heart is in the Philippines, I discovered all the bullet points you made for your final decision to be Thailand are the same as mine. So, your review just confirms my findings and conclusion. I will most likely find love in the Philippines and then purchase condos/homes in both to take care of the Visa situation. But would like my homebase to be Thailand for sure. Update: due to the new tax laws for 2024 Thailand is no longer a planned homebase for me. Philippines, all the way.

Philippines wins food for me, but not by much. This is a huge variable though and really depends on where you are in each country along with your personal tastes.
Language is a major issue in Thailand. Thailand wins hands down on food. At the end of the day, it's a very personal decision. In the real world, you're going to make your decision based on the people you meet while you're there, real people, personal encounters and relationships both positive and negative.
I would not move to a country with the FOOD as my primary motivation to live there. Unless the local food is truly terrible, it won't stop me from living in that location. Your claim about the PEOPLE is far more accurate.

As you stated, language, beaches and islands are perfect. And the presence of US Military makes this a more stable place to me. Especially since I'm a Veteran. However, if I just wanted to move to a different country I would choose some place closer to the US, such as Costa Rica, Panama or the Bay Islands of Honduras. Correction: There is no 3 year tourist visa in the Philippines. It is a 59 day visa waver for free. After 59 days you can extend for an additional 2 months your visa waver for about $60ish + $50ish for ID that is required. Then you can continue to extend every 2 months for $60ish until 3 years and then you must depart the Philippines. Hop over to Hong Kong or Thailand for a minute and you can return to the Philippines to start the process al over again. I did this for a decade. Things are changing recently that may make it harder to do this.
I am Filipino, working in SG. Been to Thailand, Malaysia. The only lacking in Philippines is infrastructure, slow internet and not proper system for services. But even with that, the gem of the Philipines is the PEOPLE and endless nature.
I found your ratings for both countries exactly how I would choose. One of the real negatives for me about The Philippines was their constant way of making you dig into your pockets. Sit at a picnic table? There's a charge for that. Get access to a beach? There's a charge for that. EVERYWHERE! To the point that I found it extremely annoying. On the plus side, as a retiree, you are entitled to a Pensioners Discount almost everywhere you go. You are supposed to show an I.D. Card but nobody I asked knew where or how you got one. Filipinos have to be the happiest people on the planet & will make you feel welcome within 5 minutes of meeting them. Thais are more reserved or maybe shy but as for safety I never once felt uncomfortable in either country even though some of the areas I visited were pretty sketchy. One factor you missed was natural disasters or weather problems. The Philippines sure seems to be a target for volcanoes, earthquakes or typhoons whereas Thailand seems to mostly miss these disasters. (Tsunami exception)
It's pretty obvious that Thailand is more advanced in most if not all categories unless you're biased or live under a rock. However, a place has to speak to your soul and to do that you need boots on ground. Whatever you do, don't go to a country for a girl or love or relationship.

For those who are looking for a more Touristy destination and a faster paced lifestyle vibe, I would agree that Thailand is the place for you. Personally, I am down with the Philippines for the more family oriented laid back local lifestyle AWAY from the tourist areas. The only thing I would critique, is the food category. The "40" restaurants that Thailand has, that gave it the win on your list, are all in Tourist heavy areas, and you will pay Tourist heavy prices. so from a "Retiring" perspective, Not the kinds of places that most retirees would be frequenting . A better comparison would have been cost and variety of foods at markets or at local none tourist eateries.

@@jayr617 In the Philippines, you can drive using your US driver's license for up to 90 days after your arrival, as long as it's in English
We would love to go back
Super sweet story❤💯😎 ur wife is definetlly waching over you guys in heaven🤗
Oh! Sorry to hear that your wife had passed away.

@@MichaelBuck yeah we filipinos are laid back and friendly.

MY brother long time partner is a Filipina and she is one of the nicest sweetest person I have ever met, also extremely hard working even though they are not married she treats him like a King. So yes I want to visit the Philippines because of her.
Not ALTHOUGH it.s BECAUSE :)
Only the closest people around you, or the people of a village / town, get to know you're actually a resident!)
Lastly, I'll have to HIGHLY recommend Philippines over Thailand for the beaches / water sports / outdoors activities generally.
Cheers!
That was an good read, thanks.
We are contented with the following:
You didn't mention my #1 reason to love Davao.....

Well said. @shirten8729
Your argument on Thailand is one dimensional. It only feels like a tourist location, if you only visit tourist locations. Its not rocket science.
How does the money exchange value compare to the dollar? Every American dollar worth more in these 2 countries? Is there a steady increase or a serious decline?
Spot on
Thanks for sharing ! Sounds about right 👍
The exchange rate is obscenely in your favour in PH. An average salary in America = rich in PH. Similar in Thailand but less so @@Richard-b2n
Been living to Philippines for 10 years and it's indeed a paradise. It's cheap and people are great they will always help you.
I have been here since 2005 and I agree. Inexpensive, the food is great, fresh food at the markets, polite and kind people. No harassment unless you're late with your rent. Even they will try and help you out.
creepy.
though I have a home in the Philippines, it's much cleaner in Thailand as Thais don't litter and unlike the Philippines you don't constantly see men peeing in public along the roads.

Mahal ko ang Pilipinas 🇵🇭💪😊
The kindness they exhibit day-to-day is amazing.

I find Thai women more attractive generally
Bingo! 80% of Filipinas aren’t attractive, and Filipinas have the worst reputation all over the world for a reason!!
I will visit countries in SEA for the same but planning to retire either in Philippines or Thailand.
> prefer Bali Indonesia over both. Why: Cost of living,
But now Bali is not as cheap as it was in the past. Isn't it?
Three reasons Thailand would be better than the Phils. 1. Access to Health Care. 2. Quality of Food. 3. Infrastructure. Note babes are everywhere in both countries. Both have excellent beach environments. This video nails it.
How about communication with the locals?
Communication is a big problen. Speaking English is understandable but they can't even understand a single English word like 90% of Thais don't know English.
@@granny686Why the hell would you expect anyone to choose Thailand over Philippines on communication with the locals?

There is two things I would say to contrast the Philippines and Thiland: First, there are no hurricanes/typhoons in Thailand and I read where the Philippines get hit regularly, and second, the population of Thailand is just under 70 million compared to almost 111 million in the Philippines and Thailand is 71% larger so there is much more empty land in Thailand.

how much would I need to retire there? Would 1 million USD be enough? I'm mid 40s, no wife no kids
I've been to the Philippines (4 times) and I have had the greatest experience there. It is no exaggeration that they are very welcoming. I have never felt more welcome anywhere else in my entire life. There are a few things I would like to point out:
And the name of those provinces are ?
You're missing out

Salamat. Po. Thank you. Very much. Emil Boy Ramos Jr.
I have been to both, but I chose leaving the US last year, and moved to Thailand.
i have lived in both countries, but picked the Philippines, where i found the love of my life and happily together for almost a decade. the ol saying played true for me " go to Thailand for many girls, and amazing experiences, go to the Philippines to find one girl, and i did. btw we now have starlink, at an amazing low price. we travel by boat throughout the country and are connected with high speed everywhere now,

Where do u live in the Philippines? I'm researching a new lifestyle. Trying to give my fiancée ideas. Lol
You would find learning the native language would bring you benefits far beyond your imagination. Language, communication is key.

Flip food can be nasty. Don’t kid yourself on this topic. Safety is also a major issue in the Philippines.
I LOVE Thailand over the Philippines but I would love it much much more if they would offer a better Visa's than they currently do.

Fair statement. I lived in both countries. Complete report, full of correct information👍

Accommodation in Thailand I found to be at a much higher quality level than the Philippines.

@@dbuck1964 it is accurate. I lived in the Philippines from 1990 to 2020, nearly half of my life. It is not just the quality of the hardware, but the noise as well.

After 59 days you can extend for an additional 2 months your visa waver for about $60ish + $50ish for ID that is required. Then you can continue to extend every 2 months for $60ish until 3 years and then you must depart the Philippines. I found your ratings for both countries exactly how I would choose. One of the real negatives for me about The Philippines was their constant way of making you dig into your pockets.

The Internet is not an issue we all lived out it before put your phone down leving them at home go out with each other you make that bond with one another live is to short so make the most with you partner.
If you make move via the Internet it's important.
@@dj4monie England has a visa free for one month but as I was there I exited my stay for 6 months by going to the immigration office paying a fee. 2 months go again fill in your form paying a little fee . Then once more going back they give you a year visa if you like to stay after that visa is reddy to run out you can apply again but if you or marred to a Philippine you can get a marrieg visa allow you to stay 3 years there or move visa you can apply for hope this will help you
which is better? vietnam
Hahahaha
I've been to both. Thailand is better in terms of quality in every category. But the Philipipines is more sweet.
And kids running around and bugs you for money.
@@Chillfam Exactly! That is sooo sweet ;-)
you nailed it! I am from the Republic of Palau and I know I want to live in Thailand all for every reason you chose. I currently live in San Diego, California now for over 40 years and it’s time to simplify my life and enjoy it. Thank you for this vital information.
In September 2022 Thailand introduced the 10 year LTR (Long Term Resident) visa that includes a category for pensioners. If you are over 50 years old and have a passive income of at least $80,000/year then you can get the 10 year LTR for 50,000 baht for 10 years (about $1,400).
As far as the visas go in Thailand, they made it harder is because they are trying to pick the ones with money, but what they should realize is that most foreigners who retired in Thailand aren't the upper middle class in their home country. The ones with money aren't retiring in Thailand.. Someone with a passive $80k+ likely to have $1-$2 mil assets and have far more options
@@mmfong297 The nonimmigrant O visa for retirees has not changed in many years. It is the most popular retirement visa, has the same financial requirements as always and costs 1,900 baht ($52) per year.
@@mmfong297 More like $2M-$4M assets.
I have about 44000 US dollar payd out in my pension afther tax every year and that is good compare to most people but then l still can not get a visa that last in Thailand so why woud l stay there?
@@janhansen6195 Beachfront condo and nice temp ocean year-round (December though is still cold). The visa is more of annual check for security reasons. It's affordable at $52. Do you own a car where you're from? It's like that -- annual registration of $52, except here it's visa. This means if a person was involved say in drug trafficking, then next year he goes for renewal, he will instead get picked up by police. If's for everyone's protection. It would be totally different if the fee is about money-making which it is not. Now those who wish to do illegal activities there, they pay 5 Million baht upfront to get 20 year Privilege Elite visa. Not sure if that's still available but that's what they did. Many got turned off by the price so they ply their trades elsewhere instead where it's cheaper to stay long-term. If you ask me, I think the visa should at least be good for 2 years instead of 1.
Thailand has the better beaches and is much much cheaper to live in. However, the Philippines have much nicer girls and most people there speak English. The people are also much nicer in the Philippines than the people in Thailand and the infrastructure is much better in Thailand.
Seriously? Thailand has better beaches than Philippines? What a joke. I tink you are blind.
@@pinayabroad6564 Hardly blind...just objective. Have you even been to the beaches in Thailand? They are among the most beautiful in the world. The Philippines have beautiful beaches....just not as beautiful as Thailand. Pretty sure most people would agree with that.
Owwwssss?
@@pinayabroad6564 It's not an ignorant comment you m0r0n. It's my opinion. Have you ever even been to the beaches in Thailand??? I've been all over the Philippines and over Thailand and there is simply no comparison.
@@pinayabroad6564 pinay kaba? Kasi yung pangalan mo? Ikaw mismo nanglait sa sarili mong bansa. Nkakahiya ka.
The visa situation is the Philippines big plus - which is Best has been debated for decades whipped to death. I vacation in Thailand but live in Philippines about 40 60 is for me a good mix.
I got pretty fair money.
Philippines’s the best.
Great comparison. As someone who has visited both countries I would agree. It just depends on how you personally value each of these points.
One huge advantage of Thailand over Philipines ist the food. The biggest advantage of Philipines is the language from my point of view.
I have lived in both. Thailand is cheaper and i like the culture of the people better. The majority of the country has little storm activity. The Philippines is more expensive than Thailand. Philippines has many more typhoons than Thailand. They have more damage , injuries and deaths from them. They also have a lot of flooding, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The Philippines also has a lot of power outages and water shortages. Getting around using rental means of transportation is also much more expensive than the cost in Thailand. I also know first hand that buying land in Thailand is much more expensive than in the Philippines. Both countries have beautiful women, but personally i think Thai women are more beautiful overall. Language is less of a barrier in the Philippines as most speak English as a second language. This is my opinion and i have tried to be objective in forming an opinion.
We are going back to Thailand Nov 30th for my 6th time. Never been to the Phillipines but I work with many. They are awesome people. If you think Canadians are polite, Filipinos have us beat hands down. Great video, but I'm curious if you have ever been to Vietnam? I've been 4 times and the country compares in price to Thailand and is absolutely stunning.
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. As for Vietnam, I haven't had the pleasure of visiting yet, but I've heard countless amazing things about it. Thanks again for tuning in and safe travels for your upcoming trip on Nov 30th! 🌏✈️🌴
Who says Canadians are polite?
@@murraymuntain3720 Asian-Canadians and they said that just for being polite.
Do they have better than Soi 16?
Actually, NO, I don't think Canadians are that polite. Never wanted to live there, either. A great place to be ALONE, if you want to and the land is beautiful.
My choice will be The Philippines in a few years after I retire..but then I was stationed there and visited again while on a West Pac. Float...back in the 80s...I love the people and culture but will indeed visit Thailand as you suggested also
You are very welcome in the Philippines sir👍
I enjoyed this video. Lots of good facts and reasoning behind your conclusions. I Hope your video encourages more people to research both of these places.
Spot on!
nice criticism
Good point
Compliments, this a fantastic video, and I can also see from the comments, that you have an overall high quality audience. Thank you for the information !
had dental work done in Bangkapi. A off the wall clinic and had great service and like you mentioned most spoke English well. If I had to have more dental or surgical work done I would go back to Thailand in a heartbeat.
How do you beat the visa problem, I like Thailand better but would hate worrying about how not to over stay and hopping I could get back in
Or you could just pay the annual extension of $50.
@@bigradwolf5001 Wrong... Retirement O visa you now need to have 800k baht in the bank for at least 3 months prior to and maybe a month or two after renewal, or a monthly income of 65k baht per month. Yearly fee is 1900baht. Also 90 day notice is required either online or at the Thai Immigration Office if you live in rented or owned accommodation. (90 day notice is every 90 Days)
However if you change rented accommodation you must notify TIO every time you move even if it's only for a few days or a month or more..
If you move around and register in hotels, 90 day notice, is not required. The hotel is required by law to notify immigration that you are staying with them.
Now there is the 5 year DTV visa for digital nomads. If you do it right you only have to do a visa run every 360 days
I watch this video and come to the conclusion that if your a younger person then Thailand might be your cup of tea but being older and in my 60’s then the Philippines is more inviting to me as I’m in my retirement mode and want a relaxing less stressful life. I can tell this gentleman on this Chanel is a younger person so I can see why he chooses Thailand as he is still working and need all of these necessities that go with it. I think it is up to each individual and their situation as I have been to both places in my younger years before cellphones and the internet was a fixture is our everyday life’s like now days and I have to say I personally enjoyed the Philippines more over than Thailand because of the language barriers less of a problem there so it was easier to navigate the islands.
Very good observation.
