A small tip if some of you want the custom thumbnail to look EXACTLY like the image on the painting itself: there is an "export" button next to the Custom Thumbnail tab. If you click on it and resize your painting image to fit the little white square (like when you are making the painting), and then import the file, your thumbnail will look exactly like its bigger counterpart.
So, for a building idea how about you try and recreate one of the dollhouses from the game into an actual sims house?

I wish I could understand how to use photo editing programs, it's all so incomprehensible to me. I don't have the money for photoshop, and it's the only one I vaguely understand how to use (because of school)

You should so do that and put them in the museum in replacement of everything else

You can do the image overlay in Paint, open two Paint programs, have your photo in one to be resized and the export from the studio in another. All you have to do is select you photo than mess about with it to fit in where the photo will sit. You save than import it in to studio. You don't have to have Photoshop.

+SheGamerxo it's the + button on keyboard number pad. it works on PC but not sure on macs or laptops. hope this helps

I don't really like using cc but I want a family portrait for a legacy I'm playing atm that isn't the awkward looking one they have in game so this is super helpful 👍🏻

Thank you James! One of the many reasons why I love you. I have always wanted nice decent pictures of the sims family I'm playing. The pictures you can take that are placed in the sims inventory do not cut it for me. I will be doing this instead. Thank you again.

it works but when I try to place my painting in my game, the image i wanted the paining to be wasn't there. it was just a question mark with a purple backround. help please
You have to make sure your image is divisible by 2. Ie 32x32 or 32x64. It doesn’t matter what size. But ensure the image is divisible by 2. If you look at the original image when you export. Make sure your new image is exactly the same size. I had this same issue.

I tried this out today from screenshots I took in-game of Selvadorada. I don't have Photoshop either, but used Paint.net for photo editing. It's a free program and easy enough for newbies with a few extra bells and whistles.
Had no idea it was this simple to create your own content! I was wishing I could decorate with some of my own photos in frames instead of the basic ones that all look horrible.
Can anyone recommend any free photo editing programs that would work with this?
Gimp is a good one!
+Im Serious Use Gimp. It works kinda like Photoshop.
+Im Serious if there are no transparent pixels involved... Microsoft Paint is still good. No joke!

+Im Serious also Inkscape, only because no one has suggested it, but gimp is ok too. If you feel lost with the program just look up videotutorials they help A LOT

Good job. It was soooo easy thanks to you. I never knew that I could just use the png-files (watched other tutorials where they used the dns, which I cannot relate to it. Working with Photoshop was for me easy.

Well judging by the comments most people do not have photoshop. I was wondering if the next time you make a video you could use Gimp. I would love to see you do WallPaper Flooring, and Beds with textured or Patterns on the Blankets. Thank you so much for making this I am totally going to try this in gimp. This is definitely helpful! You should consider doing another for furniture or wall textures, since you said they're more complicated.

I just saw this yesterday and made my first item today! This is amazing, Im so happy that it works with other programs as well, I used it with paint.net for instance.

It saves to downloads, when you want to then import it to sims4studios check download folder.

this tutorial is all well and good but what about changing the paintings in which your sim paints while using the easel? When leveling up your painting skill you see the same things created over and over again. When you paint an impressionist painting say on a large portrait canvas your sim has about half a dozen creations. I get tired of seeing the same picture being created over and over again.
Halfway in the video I'm like : "why do I watch this? I don't even have Sims 4".

I would love to see how to recolor tables/chairs or windows/doors. I love some of the doors and windows but hate that you can't get them in all white. I don't use CC but I would honestly think about using it if it meant having all white doors/windows with ones that don't have all white swatches and tables/chairs that are truly black, not some super dark brown. Plus this way I know where the CC is coming from. :)
