- In this video I react to rock band Journey perform ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’ Live in Houston 1981 as part of their iconic ‘Escape Tour’. Steve Perry is incredible with soaring vocals and extraordinary high notes while Neil Schon delivers the songs legendary guitar solos.

SP The Voice. The Legend.
Mother Father from this same concert was once voted the best live performance of any band/artist of all time. Journey was so flawless, that many of their live performances were better than studio versions.
Listen to every song from this concert and you won’t be disappointed. Love Journey
Una de las mejores voces del Rock de todos los tiempos.
That man can sing. And the band is not too shabby. The entire concert is about as perfect as rock can get.
Steve Perry is The Best!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Live he is unbeatable. So much better than studio .
Whole concert is on-line… and definitely worth a watch! 👍
No flaws in the entire concert from the entire band. Steve Smith on drums, Ross Valory on bass, Neal Schon on guitar, and Jonathan Cain or keyboards -- each one is an outstanding musician still going today. And Steve live is always is as good or better than the records.
Ya, his voice is awesome. ❤❤❤❤
Mother Father will blow your mind, Steve is a total freak of nature...love it!
Steve was perfect in every performance and arguably better live than in the studio. Definitely the GOAT. Incredible that everyone knows this song when it's over 40 yers old. Steve was a total pro about his vocal health...total vocal silence between gigs. The whole concert it on UA-cam...Mother Father boggles the mind. Lay it Down is also scarily good live. Still They Ride from Tokyo 1983 is spectacular (even though Steve had the flu at the time)..
Live! Raw Talent!
Yes, the 70's-80's were an amazing time in live music! Like you said, every singer is individual in their music an it all was great. Well most.
Sooo true: the Voice of a lifetime! This is a rocking concert: they’re gettin’ down on every single song! 🎶 @StevePerryMusic
Watch the entire show. I saw it as a teen when it was first broadcast. 1981.
Yes you can watch the entire concert on line. Steve Perry set the bar so high that he can't be touched! If you do a little search on youtube for reaction videos for Steve Perry ( Journey) you will see what I mean . I specifically like watching the one's from our African American brother's. At first they're not really expecting anything , then they hear him , think it's a girl at first , and play it again to make sure , then BAM!!! they L O V E Steve Perry , and are amazed , and hooked on him , and want more! Seeing it happen to them in front of you just as it did to you is priceless !
Sometimes, I can't believe that I was around to hear this song, when it first came out!!
You MUST watch or react to the 1981 Houston concert!! It's AMAZING!! My best friend and could wait to watch it live when MTv filmed it live!!!
Check out Faithfully. The vocals will amaze you. Great song.
Journey was a staple for those of us making mix tapes for our significant other. Lol. Don’t forget Faithfully. Great song too. He had such a beautiful voice. We really were spoiled for choice in the 1970’s and 1980’s. So much variety by some talented musicians. Check out Billy Squier do The Stroke. Great singer too. Don’t forget the rock girls like Anne Wilson of Heart, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters, Pat Benatar, Linda Ronstadt and on and on…and always Queen as the masters.
Steve Perry is the greatest vocalist of all time!! He is a vocal chameleon he can change his vocals to match the song. You want raspy Steve Perry listen to Foolish heart from his first soli album or Journey When you live a woman. Take a listen to Journey when Steve first joined listen to lights and wheel in the sky or Patiently. Oh my word the Journey Steve Perry rabbit hole is very deep but it is truly amazing !! You will not be disappointed! Anyway loved your review please do more Journey Steve Perry!
Will do! Journey is great and Steve has an amazing voice
@@TrevorReaction oops was supposed to say Journey When you Love a Woman lol I got to excited! 😂
He was great but IMO Freddie Mercury is the greatest vocalist.
@@kendallneason3645 to each his own. 🙂
@@kendallneason3645 Freddie had good stage presence. But vocally he was great but IMO vocally Steve wins hands down no one can pull you into a song so you feel every word that is sung like the Voice of Steve Perry.
Another great concert was Live in Osaka check out Walks Like a Lady
This concert is legendary and recently aired on TV, it’s also available on DVD, having been recorded by/for MTV; you will not regret it: check out any of them: Wheel In The Sky, Stay Awhile, Stone In Love: all simply
stunning and amazing! 🙏🏽

Steve has a very soulful sultry voice in those. man I can’t type!

No one compares to Steve Perry!!!!! Freddie Mercury is a good performer but Steve Perry takes it to another level!!!! Give Steve Perry the recognition he deserves!!

Check out his vocals in their song called Lady Luck, all i can say is WOW.😮😎🎵🎸👌
Amazing you never heard the live version before but you knew how it ended😂
Houston native here, was there. 15 years old
Wow, what an amazing night that must have been!
Saw them in 1983 with Bryan Adams. Both amazing! Subscribed for Queen; more classic rock and keep the Queen reactions coming! A suggestion for something a little different. Tim Minchin "Prejudice"; he tackles a serious issue with a bit of humour. Best version is from the "Ready for This?" DVD. Cheers!
Thanks for the recommendation, will definitely take a listen 🎧👍
Journey always sounded better live. I've seen them over ten times over the last fifty years, and they have always nailed it.
Cool Video! If I may suggest Kiss - I Still Love You (Live MTV Acoustic 1995). Also amazing live vocals! 😍
Please do a reaction to the live version of „Mother, Father“ from this same album. Also check out their songs Edge of the Blade“ and „Troubled Child“ from their Frontiers albums (make sure to hear the original versions, not the re-recorded version with Arnel Pineda instead of Steve P.)
Back in the day they had to practice a lot to be great. They had no technology to help them like they do today.
Wasn’t this a Cher song or did she do a cover. Adam Lambert sang it at somewhere they were honouring Cher. He was also great.
This is a Journey song but Cher must have done a popular cover. Kinda like how Celine Dion is famous for her rendition of “All by Myself” but its just a cover of Eric Carmen’s original version
You’re confusing this with Believe by Cher which Adam covered . Sounds completely different from this song which was , as always , penned by Steve, Jonathan and Neil.
When I watched this reaction, there seemed to be seconds missing, like little chunks of music. Could you perhaps go back a few seconds whenever you stop? It's bothersome when one is so familiar with the music and the concert footage.
You look exactly like Tucker Carlson
Great. Can't really enjoy it though. Your cutting out the greatness of the band as a whole. When you are solely focused on Steve's lead vocal / voice. Journey is a band. Neal is a hell of a guitarist. The rest of the band in general is amazing. Tight as hell. Including backing vocals. Cutting them out spoils it for me. Great music is produced by more than 1 person, or voice.
You’re totally right, the entire band is amazing, and it wasn’t my intention to solo out Steve Perry and not focus on the others. His vocals are just exceptional but Neils guitar playing is spot on and i did comment on that. I also had to cut out a part of the instrumental towards the end when i commented on the whole band and praised them however UA-cam wouldn’t let me have the whole video uncut so i had to edit that part out. Totally get what you’re saying
