My headteacher at primary school would do a Christmas Assembly every year where the whole school would sing through this album from start to finish. Thanks Mr Sprague for the wonderful memories!!
Oh, this takes me right back! As a child, I suffered from severe travel sickness (until I had two extremely acute episodes, and then it went away). One of things my parents did, when casettes and casette players first came out, was to put a small casette player in the front, and a selection of casettes, as music seemed to help me control the nausea. We had ABBA and the Everley brothers, and Simon and Garfunkel, but we had several Spinners ones as well. One had a sanitised version of "When the 'Old Dun Cow' caught fire" (I recently heard the original version and was stunned, to put it mildly), but the one I remember most was 'Sing out! Shout with Joy!' It was played in the car all year round ,not just at Christmas (I have memories of it playing on a boiling hot summer day whilst we were stuck in a traffic jam trying to get to Littlehampton). This song was one that has stuck in my mind since then, and whilst I couldn't remember the words of the verses, I certainly remembered the words of the chorus, and have been known to sing them out loud at random moments!
Lovely byegone memories of what was a happy family unit. Sent to me in France by my daughter, one of the members of the magic four, and who keeps the memories alive. Very very touching
