THIS is what an actress is supposed to be! "I didn't start making movies to play myself on screen, or to be pretty, or to be light." She's not alone as an actor in this sentiment, but it's marvelously refreshing to see the contrast between Lewis and all the "me, me, me" ornaments the industry throws at us.
Well, let's make one thing clear here: actors in general tend to be very articulate 'cause it's part of their job. So it's no surprise that an actress who has a wild image attached to her can sound so smart. Maybe that's because she is. Love her.
Wow half the comments are about Scientology rather than her acting. Tom Cruise and John Travolta do not get that sort of bias on their religion. I always liked her in the 90s because she was a slim brunette and so was I so I liked to see what style suited her for inspiration. I loved her in NBK and what's eating Gilbert Grape she was also in a music video I remember and Kalifornia and Cape Fear and I will look for some of the other movies she's been in because I like her alot. She is very artistic I don't care that she is not a Christian like myself.
Her experience as a Scientologist has been vastly different than most of the other members. She's a celebrity, she doesn't lead the "average life". Many of the terrible experiences happen to the non-famous. However look at Jenna Miscavige...
I agree! Whereas the Kardashians, everyone knows them! For a long time I didn't even know what they were famous for! People used to mention them & they'd be in magazines, and I'd just be thinking who the hell are the Kardashians!? People who have little talent are overrated, and people who have talent are underrated like Juliette Lewis & Jennifer Jason Leigh!
@Deadmansparty2002 - My entire point is that Scientology is somewhat incompatible with being 'down to earth'. Not that she's a 'bad' person or a dangerous one or that I have a problem with her beliefs in this context.
@Deadmansparty2002 - I agree with everything you said. However, she can and should be held responsible for her own beliefs. Not that there is anything 'wrong' with her. Just that I don't think Scientology is compatible with 'down to earth'....which is why I stipulated that exception.
@verstwo2 Her beliefs are not preventing her from being, for all intents in purposes from what can be seen of her, a regular person. What she believes has not prevented her from living within the rules society has set out, and as a result, she's no danger to herself or to others. I don't see any problem with her beliefs in that context.
@Deadmansparty2002 - The entire concept of most religions revolves around a 'spiritual' detachment from the earth. Whether it's heaven or a spaceship, when part of a person beliefs and hopes for a life that's not on the earth....then that aspect of their belief is incompatible with the notion of being 'down to earth'. It doesn't mean that they cannot have other aspects to their personality that could be considered 'down to earth'.
@verstwo2 One could say that about any religion, and some people do. But that doesn't make it true. The prevailing media attention about Scientology would lead people to believe that but having personally sat down and discussed the religion with people who subscribe to those beliefs, I'm inclined to disagree with your point. I've heard about the "things they've done", and what they believe, but that doesn't make Scientology and being "down to earth" incompatible.
I really wish Juliette Lewis was more famous. The amount of times I've asked ''do you like Juliette Lewis?' or ''do you know Juliette Lewis?'' and people always say ''I don't know her'' is very annoying! They're missing out on a great actress, singer and idol!
@verstwo2 But being 'down to earth' is an overall concept of a person's personality and you can't segment out any particular aspects. Being religious is based on a belief in the way that people act on earth and it's the basis on which most of the laws and structures of society have their origins. So the reality is that religion is part of everyone's lives whether they believe in it or not, or whether they are 'down to earth' or not.
I would have more respect for her as an actress if she didn't play the same role over and over again: the ditzy girlfriend of the bad guy. Natural Born Killers.. Kalifornia.. Cape Fear.. Starsky & Hutch.. all the same role.
@verstwo2 Well as a rule I'm not a fan of most religions but even with supposed proof of their wrong doing, it doesn't make them any different then anyone else. Regardless of her beliefs, I do not hold her responsible for any actions that those who share her beliefs have committed. As a result, my original statement about who she is as a person stands.
Great actress. They need the famous people for the money they give. Tom Cruise a d his big medal what the hell is all that about. From what i have seen on here from so many ex members . They should be paying tax They need Auditors raiding that 500 Acre place.
Her smile and her spirit is all I see, can't deny that she is awesome.

I'm really impressed with the interviewer. He's so comfortable in his own skin that he actually listens.

I feel the same about Jennifer Jason Leigh..nothing worse than mentioning her/her movies and people giving you this odd blank stare.

I actually gained a lot of respect for her after watching this interview, she's actually pretty awesome.
A great interview, she seems like a really down to earth person.

she is so unique, what a shame that she join that cult

She said " wow, CNN , this should be an intelligent interview" sorry Juliette, WRONG !
yes I used to like her till I found out about the scientology bit

you write what i exactly feel!
Ask her about her Scientology!
@Deadmansparty2002 - Yeah except for that Scientology thing.
@missleanna23: you're right!

Would it be indecent to ask the Grandparents to stay in a motel?
she's cool as a cucumber...no really I love her
@godfree2canada yes, really.

Ugh... I just look at her heart and see a black hole. Scientology sucks.
