I really appreciate you opening these on camera and processing on camera. It’s so nice to see someone appreciate these masterpieces in real time…
Thank you so much, Bry! 👊💥
Mysterio is one of my favorite characters! What an amazing piece of art!!
Thank you so much! Mysterio is definitely cool! 👍
I worked on this issue of SPIDER-MAN ADVENTURES back in the day, and those look to my eye like the original overlays that would have been put in place during the process of readying the cover for print. Also, the decision to shift the style of the artwork in the series to a more animated look was made by Sarra Mossoff, who took over as the editor after me. She made that choice and then notified Alex as to how to proceed.
WOW! Thank you for checking out my video, Tom! I'm grateful that you reached out and let me know that these were the original overlays. Alex Saviuk also messaged me shortly after I posted the video and talked about getting the original art returned to him with the overlays and he kept them intact over the years. Thank you for sharing the info regarding the switch in art styles. It's cool to get more insight on the decision making process, especially coming from those who directly worked on the comics! Thank you for all of your contributions to comics! 🤩
I can see the excitement on your face as you were opening it. Now thats a Kool-Ais smile. Great pickup
Thank you so much! 😁
Hi Karen! This is my first video and first comment. 😊 This is a wonderful find and buy! Beautiful. It's great to find cool videos in the world of comics done by more awesome women!
Thanks for checking out my channel and taking the time to leave a comment. I'm glad you liked the art and the video! 😉
Sweet Saviuk Spidey cover! Congrats!!
Thank you so much, Rick! ☺
Great cover! The overlays are very cool and demonstrates how the cover elements were assembled in the final work. Congrats.
Thank you so much, Chuck! 😉
Great content and item. Congratulations and good data about the piece. Thank you.
Thank you so much! ☺
Many congratulations on a fantastic cover by a fantastic artist on this title! I am very happy for you! Indeed, Saviuk's Spider-Man artwork is more popular than ever so obtaining a cover is especially nice as well as significant.
Thank you so much, CAB! I'm definitely happy with this cover! Saviuk is one of my favorite artists, especially when it comes to Spider-Man. ☺
Two of my favorite covers are ASM #66 and #67 it looks like Alex Saviuk borrowed from both covers to create Spidermen Adventures #5. So happy for your acquisition! 🎉❤
Yes, it certainly looks that way! Thank you so much! ☺
Wow. What a great choice! Love that it has Mysterio.
Thank you so much, Damian! I think so, too. 😉
That Spiderman cover is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
👊💥
@@KarensPages your shirt looks even better 😉
Very cool! Alex Saviuk did one of my favorite con sketches. Nice guy also.
Thank you! If you don't mind my asking, what did Saviuk draw for you? I hope to meet Saviuk and Keith Williams someday! 👍
nice looking cover and great design. Congrats to you!
Thank you so much, Lance! It's always great to read your comments! ☺
A very nice pick-up Karen. The overlays that can be flipped are pretty cool--much better than having the trade dress taped over the original artwork as was done in the old days.
Thank you! The overlays on this cover are pretty awesome. I don't mind when the trade dress is pasted onto the original board, but sometimes it can become discolored, which is less appealing. Thank you for your comment! I hope you are doing well! 👍
Amazing piece of art as usual!! Sometimes the original art is better than the finished product.
Thanks, Mr. Akins! I completely agree! 😉
So so cool. I love your awe and excitement for the original art! Your love for the medium shines through - you earned a new fan! Subbed!
Thank you so much for your comment and for subscribing to my channel! I'm glad you liked the video! 👍
Congratulations on a very cool first Spidey cover! Thank you for sharing it with us! P.S. Love the Thing shirt!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The Thing shirt is one of my favorites in the rotation. 😂
Monster cover art Karen…congratulations! The ASM 13, 66 and 67 Mysterio covers are my favourite Spidey covers along with Annual #1 Sinister Six
Thank you so much! Those are all spectacular covers! I definitely want to pick up ASM 13 someday. 👍
Those overlays are really cool on that cover. I love seeing your excitement when you first look at the art and take it all in. Great video!
Thank you so much, Greg! Glad you liked the video! 😉
Awesome cover and awesome find.
Thank you so much! ☺
Very, very nice! Same as yourself, I appreciate the overlays and their contributions to the finished work. I imagine in this digital age, these techniques are completely lost. Wonderful pick-up, congratulations!
Thank you so much! For sure. I completely agree. As art moves more into digital formats, it loses part of its charm. It's cool to see everything on the page. Thank you for your comment! 😁
That is a very nice piece to have, Karen. Cover art is nice to get. Those are the most noticed and memorable.
Thank you! This cover stood out among all the Spider-Man Adventures covers that Saviuk did! Thank you for your comment! 👍
Such a great design and I think I actually prefer the black and white. I think the line weight stands out more without the colors. Very cool.
Yes, I agree. I feel this way about most original art pieces! 😁
Karen, that is one incredibly cool comic art piece. thanks for showing it to us.
Thank you so much, Joe! ☺
It's a very cool pickup, and it's fantastic that you get to own a full original cover. It was fun watching you remove the overlays to reveal the Saviuk art. Many of the pieces you show look better in black and white than the colorized and printed, final-produced comic. Congratulations on adding this piece to your collection!
Thank you so much, MoneyballComics! It took me a while to figure out how the overlays opened. 😂 I'm glad you liked the video! 😉👍
Cool Spidey cover - congrats Karen! Love checking out Saviuk’s table at conventions/Artist alleys - underrated Spidey artist 💯
Thanks, Kavi! It's cool that you've been able to meet Saviuk and check out the art at his booth. I would love to do that someday! 😉
Nice 😀 🕷
Thank you! 😁
Beautiful pick up. I love the original art much better than the printed cover. I like Saviuk as well but I don't feel like he is respected for his work
Thank you so much! I usually prefer the original art as well. It's incredible to see in person and much larger than the printed comic. I've always loved Saviuk's art. 👍
Zipatone - wow, brings me back! Another EPIC piece - very dynamic design. If and when you get it framed (UV protect!) please show us!!! Very nice referencing the commonalities of the two covers as well. You know your stuff, gurl - kudos.
Thank you so much! The zipatone has a really nice effect on this piece. If I ever put it in a frame, I will be sure to show it again. 👍
Excellent pickup🔥 Alex Saviux does incredible work. I’m planning to grab keys pieces from his Web of Spider-Man run 👍🏾
Thank you! There are so many amazing pages by Saviuk, especially in his Web of Spider-Man run! I think you'll definitely enjoy one of my upcoming unboxing videos. 😉 I hope you get your key pieces from Web!
Congrats miss Karen. That is a keeper.
Thank you, Mr. Redjack! It's definitely a keeper! 😉
@@KarensPages the first ever piece of artwork I bought back in the late 80's was an avengers cover (269) by J Buscema. I didn't even know what comic artwork was back then. But it had my favorite villain Kang(fighting Immortus) I still have that cover.
@@MrRedjack12 Wow! I just looked at your cover on CAF. It's absolutely stunning! It's awesome that you were able to keep it. 👍
Mermaid is totally creeping on you for sure 😆😂
😂
NICE! As a graphic designer I appreciate the overlay set-up. Wonderful cover Karen. Congrats!
Thank you so much, Hart! ☺
Hi, just found your channel and i really love your videos. Thanks for sharring your original arts and comic love with us.🤓👍
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you found my channel! Thanks for watching my videos! More unboxing videos as well as a lot of other cool videos to come! 😉
I think Saviuk also tips his hat to ASM 67 with the super large Mysterio hands. Congrats Karen on a FANTASTIC piece of legendary SM Art! Saviuk is up there as a Spidey artist IMHO.
That's a great point, CJ Design! It's like he combined elements from both 66 and 67, but also made it his own. 😉
Congratulations Saviuk is great spidey artist an outstanding cover to get, yes agreed with your close ups there is no doubt that they are the original overlays. another one for you to display, incidently it may be of interest to you I always have high quality colour copies done of the original art even though it is black and white the reproduction is alot closer to the original than a black and white copy and I frame and display these rather than the original art itself , it takes away the worry of light damage etc and as long as its a high quality copy it still displays superbly well and I file away the originals in mylar.. great vid a pleasure to view, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I know other collectors that do the same thing with displaying high resolution copies of original art. It's a great idea if you can't put all your art behind UV protective glass or acrylic. Thanks for the comment! 👍
That is Really Cool! Congrats on the Subscriber Boom! 😊
Thank you, Bigby! I think the recent boom started with you. 😉
@KarensPages Glad to help! 😀 Good things come to Good People!
So I’ve been focusing on collecting signed graded comics. But this makes me want to venture into art pieces like this.
Why not both? 😉
I hear that@@KarensPages, but unfortunately, I'm a full time student starting a second career, so money is a bit tight. Maybe one day. 🙂
@@Comics_Recovery Congratulations! That is great to hear! I was a student for a very long time, so I completely understand when it comes to budget. 😉
Nice art score! Can't go wrong with some Spidey art in the collection. And Saviuk did have a nice run. I have some original pages, but no covers yet.
Thank you so much! Do you have original pages from Web of Spider-Man, or another title? I'll have another unboxing video in the near future that you might want to check out as well. 👍😉
@@KarensPages The pages I have are from some Image titles I liked, The Activity and Invincible. I've been meaning to do some updated (and better) videos showing them off. Ooh, got something cool in the pipeline. I'll be on the lookout for that video.
@@GENOTALKSCOMICS Very cool! Thanks for sharing! ☺
My first time seeing your channel pop up for me. Seeing that it had my favorite Super hero I had to check it out. Spider-Man has always number one for me. I found this very interesting and what a cool piece to pick up. I can tell this is something you enjoy. I liked and subscribed. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Fun shirt by the way. 🙂
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you found my channel! Thank you for subscribing! I have some pretty cool videos coming up in the near future. I hope you can check them out. 👍
@@KarensPages Of course. 🙂
Beautiful art, love it!!
Thank you so much! ☺
Wow that's awesome art work 👍 and thanks for letting me know about spider man adventures comics
Thank you so much! Yes, the Spider-Man Adventures/Adventures of Spider-Man comics are pretty cool. Thanks for your comment. ☺
That is a beauty. Congrats.
Thank you so much! 😁
That's a great cover. (If memory serves Spider-Man Adventures is a child friendly title, or based on the animated series?) Thanks for another video. Your positive attitude and honest love for the medium is contagious. 🐱 PS: You've recently inspired me to start buying some missing keys from my favorite Daredevil run (Ann Nocenti's Bullet/Typhoid Mary issues).
Thank you! Yes, Spider-Man Adventures was based on the animated TV series (1994-1998). I'm so glad you liked the video! It's great to hear that you were inspired to pick up your missing Daredevil keys! ☺
Karen.. Killer Spdey cover and a cool unique piece!! Congrats. Also feel I need to spotlight your light blue THing tee.. Is it vintage of did you just find it at acon somewhere? Ben Grimm has been my favorite hero since I saw him in the 1967 FF cartoon. His heart and humor always got to me. Enjoy your new aquisition!!...
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked both video and t-shirt. It's not vintage, but it definitely has a vintage feel. I picked up the shirt on Amazon. 😉
Hi Karen, new to the channel. Your videos are great.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found my channel! ☺
I love Alex’s work and I own a few of his pages from a DC Crimson Avenger story, and he is *such* a nice guy! I love this “get” for you!
Thanks, Brian. Super cool that you own OA Crimson Avenger pages. I love Saviuk's art. I have a DC page from Saviuk, too...I just haven't shown it yet. He seems like a super nice guy. I can't wait to meet him someday! 👍
Karen, sweet page.
Thank you so much, Gil! ☺
Great Page! Keep picking bangers!
Thanks, Scott! Only bangers here! 😂
"But Rubén, it's from a kids comic based on a Saturday morning cartoon show! It's not even worth half of what you're asking!". Hunh? What? Oh, oops! Sorry, wrong show....(I'm getting PTSD flashbacks.)
What a great and fun thumbnail. Happy Halloween, Karen! Now THIS is a really cool cover! The second you showed it, I thought, "Oh wow, I know why this one caught her eye, because it reminds her of ASM #66!" 😉 I mean, that's how I felt as soon as I saw it anyway. I love covers that are nods to previous, classic covers and pieces with classic hero vs classic villain are the absolute bee's knees. Although there was a time when nobody wanted art from any of the series' that were based on the animated shows, the combination of hobby growth and prices of art from the 3 main Spidey titles getting out of reach for many collectors has forced many to look at these titles with a more discerning eye and I'm thrilled that this has been the case because there are a LOT of great looking covers that were done for these children's line titles, of which this is a top notch example and I own several myself.
When you spoke about the trade dress and overlays, you said that you liked it when it was included because it completes the cover and makes it look exactly like the published comic book (or at least you were TRYING to say that!😜), which is why most collectors also like it when the art comes with it. However, I was hoping you'd mention whether original cover art having or not having the trade dress is a deal breaker for you. Personally I prefer when it's complete, but for me it's not a deal breaker. But I know that there are plenty of collectors for whom it IS a deal breaker and they will actually pass on covers they love, just because the stats aren't included.
Anyway, another fun video, Karen. Keep up the great work and I'll catch you in the next one!
Thank you so much, Rubén! Happy Halloween to you, too! I like to have the original overlays, but it's not a deal breaker for me if they are not included. Even without the overlays, it's still the published cover. Although, I would hope that people would always try to preserve all parts of the original art, including the original overlay. 😉
@@KarensPages Thanks, Karen! I'm glad to hear that the stats wouldn't be a deal breaker for you, because as I always say about those people for whom it IS a deal breaker, "What exactly are you collecting for, the art or the stats?". People DO preserve the stats, whether they were glued to the board or placed on overlays, though there have been some minor exceptions where collectors removed the stats because they were covering up more art and they felt it looked better that way. I get that, but once it has been published, no collector should ever feel it's their "right" to alter the piece in any way. In any case, in the vast majority of cases where the original art doesn't have the trade dress, it thankfully isn't because of collectors removing them, rather because the publisher photostatted the covers and added the trade dress to those photostats then had the printer shoot and publish from that, before throwing them out while the trade dress devoid original art eventually got returned to the artists. See you soon!
@ So, Alex Saviuk messaged me and let me know that all the overlays are original. He said that the art was returned to him with the overlays on and he kept everything together. Super cool that both the original art and overlays were kept together and preserved all these years. 👍
@@KarensPages Cool, did you reach out to him or is he simply a watcher of your channel? I never doubted for a second that the overlays were real, btw. As soon as you mentioned that you had seen the cover on his website and it had the overlays while he owned it, that confirmed 100% that they were the original ones. As long as the overlays were put on by the publisher, 99.99% of the time they will always still be attached to the art decades later. 👍
@ He watched my video and reached out to me. He's a really nice guy. 👍
Congratulations on the Saviuk cover! I recently added an Alex Saviuk original art piece to my collection myself: Primus (pencils by him and inks by Josef Rubinstein) from 1986's The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition #10 page 20.
Congrats to you as well! I saw that Primus piece when it came up for sale. Nice pick up! Thanks for watching the video and commenting. 👍
@@KarensPages Thanks! Here's to both of us increasing our collections with excellent pieces!
You know it's going to be a great day when a new Karen's Pages video drops. 👊💥🤩
Wow, thank you! 👊😉
@@KarensPages “When you put it all together, it looks, you know, just like the cover……because it IS the cover.” 😂
@@ShinKazama88 ☺
@@ShinKazama88 That might've been the best part of the video, certainly the funniest! 😂I was actually shocked that you left that in there instead of cutting it out and putting it in with your outtakes, Karen! Nice curveball. 😉
I never pay attention to Saviuk's Spidey as I was too busy chasing McFarlane's ASM. Your explanation of his art style changes make a lot of sense now as I remember his art style was very cartoony in Adventure.
Were you able to get McSpidey OA? Thanks for your comment! 👍
@KarensPages No, I don't own any McSpidey art. I was a comic collector in the early 90s, and I was collecting Lee X-Men, Silvestri X-Men, McSpidey comics. I was just a young man at the time, I didn't really know that I could own McSpidey OA, but most importantly, I didn't get the opportunity to go to the bigger shows like SDCC to get to see those type of OA. I really seriously got involved as an OA collector around 2014.
@@Larry1Wand Thanks for getting back to me! ☺
I have a reprint of ASM 66 on my wall and all these years I never noticed that Saviuk's cover was an homage to that cover!!! I'm also a huge Saviuk fan and I too was bidding on that cover 😅 So happy to see it end up in the hands of someone that truly appreciates not only the art, but the artist as well. Congrats Karen! 🎉
Thank you, FluxCap! 👍 Glad to meet a fellow Saviuk fan! I have another video where I unbox three Saviuk pages, if you haven't checked it out already. Sorry that I outbid you on this cover. 😅 Do you have any Saviuk OA in your collection?
@@KarensPages haha no worries, I tapped out of the bidding somewhere in the middle of what it sold for. Your true bidding competitor will continue to be nameless! I don't have any original art by Saviuk, but I do have a nice collection of signed Spider-Man Adventures/Adventures of Spider-Man/Web of Spider-Man books by him. I'll check out that other unboxing video you have! 😁
Beautiful!
Thanks! You might have the best YT logo. 😉
I'm a new subscriber, and I said out loud "wow" the same time you did in the video.. love your post.
Thank you so much for subscribing! Sorry that I'm just now getting back to you. Glad you liked the video and thanks for your comment! ☺
That is beautiful❤
Thanks, Josh! 👍
Very nice!
Thank you! And thanks for your comment!😉
Thats pretty sweet.
Thank you! 👍
That's realy nice! Congrats!
Thank you so much! ☺
Great cover, congrats! As exciting as it always is to open a package with a piece that you purchased, there is always a bit of anxiety that I will somehow cut into the package the wrong way and damage something lol.
Thank you so much! I know exactly what you mean. It's easier with boxes, but sometimes with the envelope style mailers it gets a little nerve racking. Sorry for replying so late. I replied to your other comment, too. 👍
Hello Karen, I'm one of the many who discovered you from that Bry's comics video. I have 4 pieces of original art and would love to get a cover piece someday. Question, do you display your pieces framed or do you keep them in portfolio binders? I would love to see your set up.
I keep a lot of my original art in Itoya art portfolios. If you check out the show that I did with RubénDaCollector (a link to the video is on my YT homepage), you can see some of my framed pieces -- a trio by Colleen Doran and a large Mandy by Dean Yeagle. Thanks for coming over to my channel from Bry's Comics! I appreciate it! 👍
Congratulations Karen. It's a great looking cover. Is this one you are going to display or will it just be stored safely because of the extra overlays??
Thank you so much, padbear! I will store it safely for now in a portfolio, but who knows, it might end up on my wall someday. 😉
Thanks for the video. I get anxious trying to take all the tape when I buy a book or Art. 😂😂
Thanks for watching! I know what you mean about the tape. Thankfully, it usually comes off pretty easily. No damage yet from my man hands! 🤣
Met Saviuk at a con recently and he had a number of strips available including Sundays. Signed by Lee (and Lieber?)
That's great to know. Thanks for sharing that info, Chuck! 👍😁
What song is playing while you are unboxing???? I love that!!
Yeah, it's pretty catchy, isn't it? It's called "Girl I Want it With You" ft. AC Lincoln by Harrison Amer. 😁
Huge Congrats Karen!!!! I don"t own any art pages with overlays! Does any extra care have to be considered when it comes to storing original art with an overlays? Regards David
G'day, David! Thank you so much! This was my first piece of art with overlays. I don't think any extra care is needed for overlays...I just treat it like any other piece. 👍
Girl, you need a box cutter.
I ❤ my ✂! 😂
@karen’spages would you consider selling that one? I would give you double even triple what you paid here.
Nice
Thanks! 👻
