Thanks so much for this great explanation. I was looking for a way how to retrieve the rope when rappelling in a single strand of the rope. Butterfly/figure 8 knot is the way to go.
Great detail and explanation, Sir. After having been climbing, rappelling and training SAR teams since Pitons were still considered “eco-friendly”, I could not present these very valuable, but often overlooked, skill sets.

Great video! One nit - I thought the double fisherman's is traditionally a bend, which is joining two ropes together. Wasn't this a noose knot?
