    Maybe we have all become too gung-ho, expecting technology to beat the elements in getting us wherever I want to go, when I want to go?
    No aircraft can outfly thunderstorm microbursts/windshear safely.
    A favourite saying us pilots have goes: 'Better to be down here wishing I was up there, than up there wishing I was down here.'

    • @RACECAR
      @RACECAR Рік тому +4

      I'm of the impression that because of the weather combined with the proximity of the Fire Station, the fire was dealt with in a short matter so it effectively minimized the amount of casualties that could've happened.

    Michael Origel, the FO for American Flight 1420, is still flying with AA today. China Airlines had publicly disputed the final reports of virtually all their fatal accidents in the 90's and 2000's as an attempt to save face from their poor safety record. The disintegration of Flight 611 in 2002 finally made China Airlines to swallow their pride and made necessary changes behind the scenes, even though they also disputed that accident's cause at first. There hasn't been a fatal crash involving China Airlines ever since.

    The problem with the MD-11 was because of its modified tail from the DC-10. It is smaller, so the plane requires a higher landing speed to keep it stable. If speed isn't maintained, , it lands hard and begins to bounce, or porpoise. The pilot then makes the fatal error by fighting the bouncing. He's supposed to let it continue, as it will straighten itself out. Instead, by fighting it the plane can invert just off the ground, as seen in those FedEx crashes.

      Absolutely crazy that more people didn't die. The explosion in the video looked horrific. And the plane even flipped over!

    Due to the smaller tailplane of the MD-11 compared to the DC-10 made the MD-11 want to pitch up more. This meant the MD-11 needed to land at higher speeds to counter this pitch up. Crews were instructed to increase thrust just before touch down to slow the aircraft's descent. The stretched fuselage also gave crews the illusion the plane had its main gear firmly on the ground if it for some reason bounced causing them to push the nose down increasing the stress caused by the second bounce to damage the plane's structure.

    I used to fly all the time, but after watching enough of these vídeos, plus my own scary eperience the last time I flew, NEVER AGAIN. NO WAY, NO HOW. I'll take my chances vía car from now on.

      I mean if you’re flying in the US there’s been 1 fatality in the last 11 years

      Much more likely to be killed in a car accident; no comparison in the safety record of air versus car travel. Just look at the stats.

    How on God's earth did ANYONE live in that China Air crash?

    You can see why at 62 they won't let you be a captain in most airlines. So stupid to have the answer to the speed problem on take off and then completely ignoring when in the air

    The video of the second crash is horrifying. In a matter of seconds hundreds of people were gone just like that.

    So I think this is actually China airlines but they haven’t have time to change the painting of the plane.

    An ex military pilot is still far less likely to do something really stupid like pull back on the stick of a stalling aircraft. You increase power and push forward!
