    1. Saw him winning under pressure in Thomas Cup final in India, and it was amazin,

    In fact, the score is 22-3 in the 2nd set ^^. At 13-2 Antonsen challenged the call “out”. Antonsen won the challenge but the ref did a MISTAKE cause he gave a point to Antonsen AND he removed a point for Momota. After the challenge the score was 12-3 instead of 13-3. Check at 57:00

      This happened at least twice in this WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP tournament. Once in a chinese women's double match, and now here!!! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL and very bad for the sport itself if BWF can't solve this problem!

      That is a very serious mistake and I´m surprised the tournament referee didn´t step in and correct the umpire. Imagine if the score was more even, if antonsen actually managed to catch up and win the set 23-21, a point like that could be the difference between a victory and a loss.

    Fun facts for Momota WC:
    6 matches
    12 games
    1 game he allowed his opponent to gain 19 points
    5 games less than 15 points
    6 games less than 10 points.
    TOTAL DOMINATION.
    ANTONSEN THE ONLY PLAYER TO GAIN LESS THEN 10 POINTS IN BOTH GAME.

    Credit to Momota for being the only top seeded player to perform consistently. Most other seeded players choked which made the quality of MS in this tournament lower than what I expected prior to the start. Momota will continue to dominate MS perhaps until other players like Christie, Ginting and Shi Yuqi became more mature and able to handle pressure.

    Gill and Morten were saying Antonsen was way off of his recent form he displayed in the previous two matches. But, I would say he was "made" out of his form by Momota. As Morten stated, Antonsen was saying "I simply don't know where the shuttles are coming" during the break after the first game. He just did not know what to do and panicked, which made him make so many mistakes. The point is he was "made" out of form by Momota. He was doing alright at the beginning. Look at QF and SF of Momota, you actually see a very similar pattern. First 11 points, close, Momota pulls away and wins the first game with a big margin. He wins the second game with an even bigger margin. I have to say, before the match I was scared for Momota because of the way Antonsen played his QF and SF. Apparently, I underestimated Momota.

    • @cunninglinguist900
      @cunninglinguist900 4 роки тому +18

      Morten Frost is always biased against Momota, he doesn't like him and has no intention of hiding it. If you listen to the adjectives and attributes he uses to describe good play by Momota, it's always some back-handed compliment (like he won against Praneeth because of his good defense without mentioning his top offense that scored winner after winner), no praise at all (opponent scores winner - gets praised; Momota scores winner - silence. Happens all the time) or a relativization (i.e. talk about the bad lift from opponent, not the quality winner).
      I mean he actually had the nerve to call this totally dominant and outstanding performance during the final and the overall performance during the tournament "solid". Some praise, huh?

    • @Kinghalo1982
      @Kinghalo1982 4 роки тому +2

      @Wilson Owen Haha, good luck with that. Any well-achieved Asian badminton players who can speak English well enough as Morten and Steen? Can't think of any. Gill, Morten, Steen, and others (sorry I don't know their name) are good. I like them even though they are slightly biased toward European players. I can tell they are at least trying not to be biased (most of the time).

    • @cunninglinguist900
      @cunninglinguist900 4 роки тому +4

      @Wilson Owen Most certainly. I'm European but I find it shameful that a Sport that is completely carried, financed and dominated by Asian players, sponsors and tournament organisers is entirely shaped by European (and Canadian) commentators and that these commentators, instead of being humble about it, misuse this position to be totally biased towards European players. Time for change.

    • @cunninglinguist900
      @cunninglinguist900 4 роки тому

      @@Kinghalo1982 They don't speak English in HK? In Singapore? They don't have competent English speakers in the other Asian countries?
      I also have a hard time calling the 3-word sentences with the vocabulary of a toddler, exhibited by the insufferable Charmaine Reid, "English". She also isn't "well-achieved" as a player, Paul Hand and Trevor Harris have never even been badminton players.
      There's surely much better than especially these three available in Asia.

    • @Kinghalo1982
      @Kinghalo1982 4 роки тому

      @@cunninglinguist900 Sorry, if it's not clear. I was mostly referring to Morten and Steen when I say well-achieved. You want at least one of the two commentators to have significant experiences in badminton right (which is how BWF does most of the time)? Like I said, I like them and I don't really feel the need to replace them personally. Is there anybody who knows the game and the history of badminton as well Morten and Steen, and speak English well enough (well enough does not mean his/her English is understandable) in HK or Singapore? If so, yeah sure. Bring them. I have not been watching badminton long enough to know how HK and Singapore were in the past.
      Sponsors are certainly not entirely shaped by Europeans. Also, I would not say they are misusing their positions. I guess it all comes down to how much tolerance you have toward biased comments. The level of bias they exhibit once in a while is totally acceptable to me. But, I guess not to some obviously.

      If you want to see an epic final, watch the Asia Championships '19 final. Easily one of the best matches ever played.
      Apart from that, it's not Momota's fault Shi, Axelsen and Son were injured, that Srikanth and Chen Long are past it, or that the Indonesia youngsters couldn't turn up. In fact, with the way BWF is stretching the players with more and more tournaments, injuries will probably occur more often, top players will be absent (Momota is next, he's playing more matches than anybody else), and finals will increasingly lack in quality.

    At 57:00 the umpire changed Momota's score from 13 to 12, and said "you are right" to someone there. IT WAS NOT RIGHT! Surprisingly no one noticed including the commentators! Not even Momota himself! But this is a horrible mistake. One umpire made another mistake like this in a Chinese women's double match and refused to acknowledge the mistake when hearing protest (rightly so) and question. BWF for some reasons treat athletes--and by extension the sport itself--with such lack of respect that it brings the sport down. Just look at tennis. The way the umpires call the athletes' names and demand them to "PLAY" is not nice to hear and is not NECESSARY! It is so not right!

      I was there in the audience. Antonsen's shot was in but the line judge called out. 56:47 You can hear the umpire say "He called out, do you want to challenge?" and Antonsen was surprised and said "...Out?" "Yeah, he called out, challenge?" And that was when Antonsen challenged. You can hear the commentators saying it was clearly in, even Momota saw that it was in and already hit the shuttle back to the other side.
      Long story short... no one made a mistake, except the line judge I guess. The challenge was successful, and the shot was actually in. :)
      Edit: Oh shoot actually, he changed Momota's score back to 12 when it was 13 before! I didn't even notice that. I guess Momota was so far up that it didn't even matter that much at that point haha

    Momota and Antonsen aren't even comparable players. Momota executes high quality shots and sticks to a game plan. Antonsen does not execute shots with high quality and uses brute force and aggression to win rallies with no real game plan; works with most players, but not with absolute elite of the sport. How many times did you see Momota attempt to smash when completely off balance?

    • @JeffHamiltonjdjtc
      @JeffHamiltonjdjtc 4 роки тому

      Yes, it’s that next level of an elite player. The game plan worked to perfection for Momota. To me, it seems as though part of that was to play to Antonsen’s deep forehand. Momota won tons of rallys after forcing a “loose” shot to the forehand. I wonder how many smashes Momota had during the whole match - not many either. Perhaps another part of the game plan.

      UNBEATABLE....too much gap in terms of quality, experience and confident than other players....after Chen long get older or lost his motivation because off all his achievement, not far behind him only Shi Yuqi, and Viktor axelsen with his deadly attacking luckily they also absent cause of injury,.
      Momota has best footwork,solid defense and good attacking and also he is smart with his game plan,,he can choose either attack or defense, this is made him "complete" than others....thats why he very consistent until now because he can maintain his stamina with his defense gameplan first at the beginning match...
      nowdays many youngsters only good with their attacking gameplan, their only good attack with powerfull smash from the beginning, this work when facing others youngster but not with Momota, they don`t have/not yet quality to match Momota`s "patience" with playing "rally" because these youngster dont have a confidence to lifting the shuttle and receive smash with their weak defense at the court, diference with axelsen and Shi yu Qi, their powerfull smash can penetrate Momota defense.. hoping their back as soon as posible to match Momota, and we will wait the youngster improve their Skill,experience, and consitency.

      I disagree, momota just not give him the shoot that make him attack and when he attacks, momota's defensing just too good, and its make antonsen lost of balance and making more errors. Its more difficult to make the quality shoot like momota did than just attacking, especially in the long term match. Its like easy when we watch it, but if you actually do it, its so difficult to make great loob, great netting, great dropshot in the whole match.

    Dont give me hate for this but personally the quality of the mens singles matches as well as the mens doubles matches has dramatically dropped. What I mean by this is that form wise the singles players nowadays are just trying to mirror the styles of lin dan and LCW, lacking their potential to awaken their own unique style and form which for me, makes it such a bore to watch. Very easy for someone on the level of kento as he who had studied from lin dan and LCW matches can easily read his opponents shots since all his opponents do is attempt to copy the those two playing styles.
